Beefing BBoys was an eye opening read. because of it, I was able to see how complex breakin is . Over the last 5 years I have seen the tensions mount when "reppin yo crew" with my own eyes. Sounds like there is more to this than reppin. thanks nadia Respect is important.

yo what up ya'll, i have so many feelings on this so called article i don't know where to begin. first of all for the people who know me an those mentioned in the article i speak on behalf of myself and them too. To begin let's get this one point clear....THE PITCH CONTACTED ME...let me say that again...THE PITCH AND MS NADIA PFLUM CONTACTED ME!!!. for damn near a week she tried to get in contact with me to do a "story" covering the bboy scene in KS. all the while she was gassin me tellin me how she heard i was an authority on the scene one which i never professed to be.so i agreed with sum reservations mind you and we set up appointments which fell thru time after time. so one sat nite i saw her at the aforementioned place in the article (lucky's) she was being carried in by one of the so called out casts like a baby. right then was a major red flag for me. i wondered what role they would be playing in the article since she only wanted to speak with so called "authorities" on the scene. she stayed with them most of the nite talkin an pointin to those of us who were there. right then an there i made up my mind not to do an interview simply because i didn't want to be associated with individuals who did not have the mind frame i shared for this art form. i let her know that there an she continued to gas me tellin me i need to do the article an things like "but it's a front cover of the pitch story" to which i replied.." ayo shorty that doesn't mean anything to me if it's a bullshit piece i've got standards if i have to sacrifice a cover so be it" to which she replied it's goin to be an informative piece. so for days after i still felt uneasy about doin it she left me numerous messages an emails. i finally agreed to so we met an did what was in my eyes a very informative interview. i told her the history of the kc,law, scenes. also knowledge about bboyin as it relates to moves, ideas, an the lifestyle itself. we spoke for about an hour she asked me sum irrelevant questions to which i jus looked confused but answerd anyway. at the end of the interview she told me this..."i know you're goin to be mad but i still want to talk to leo an others about things" to which i replied..."I understand that its your article but i'm jus wondering what their significance is" meaning that i pretty much gave her what i considered to be a infomative history on the scene and our accomplishments which were all positive. not once in that interview did anything negative come out of my mouth we didn't even discuss the name marcus shadden not once. so i agreed she should speak with whoever she wanted on the condition that a week before the article was to drop she could run by me a rough draft version of the story an that if indeed it was what she hinted to outcasts anwhat not then she would take my name an interview out of the story. i made it clear that i had wanted nothing to do with a gossip story NOTHING. and she acted as tho she respected that an gave me her word it was not goin to be that. i recive an email on the monday that the paper is droppin keep in mind it comes out wed. she tells me how it's not the story she wanted an her editor changed it. and in deed it will be a article about the very thing i did not want to be associated with. now tell me ya'll is that journalistic integrity? i don't think so i jus have one question for her....HOW DO YOU LOOK YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR EACH DAY AN FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF? you did a disservice to your community, to your scene which you claim to support an to the people who put their trust in you as a reporter. your article was neither insightful nor informative your used words like school girls well thats what that article looked like it was done by an angry school girl who never had any talent an had to take pot shots at others who do an who does nothing positive an can only see negatve in things. an will say anything an do anything for a story. there it is that's the truth for those who care.... i urge all who love hiphop as much as i do to not let this happen again an if it does hold those accountable the media is jus a tool of those with an agenda to destroy THE REAL hiphop culture to divide an conquer they have never understood it an never will its for us by us not for them to write about if you've never lived it then you won't feel me but if you livin it now you'll def understand..... peace and understanding to those who support our culture and who represent the elements... YYEEEAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! I'm telling you they thirve off beef , the media loves it and it's sad they're on the outside looking in, no one would be dope without the spirit of competition and thats what b-boys and b-girls are full of but the media sees it as angst, nope !! circuit breaker fo life.

People like to read about beef....so the media prints it.... hip-hop has its fair share of beef and at times beef it was seems to spark the most interest or even spawn some of the highlights in hip-hop history. The bboy scene in this area for sure has it share of beef so to me it seems like they all go hand in hand. Hip-hop thrives of differnet types of drama... the media loves drama....people love to read about it... it's a cycle... Remember that there is no such thing as bad publicity. Peace! [quote:a820c7c5de]hip-hop has its fair share of beef and at times beef it was seems to spark the most interest or even spawn some of the highlights in hip-hop history[/quote:a820c7c5de] Yeah like biggie and pac being murdered thats a real highlight of recent media instigated rap/hip-hop beef history . Sure back before guns became an extension of ones hand and it was all about skills things were diffrent but it's a new day and it gets real, especially when the media sparks da fire. I'm not saying the b-boy/b-girls are gonna start busting off on eachother i'm just thinking of the culture as a whole , there're plenty of positive things to be covered in the KC scene thats all i'm saying, no beef. People challenge me on my lyrics and I stand up to them flat out d-story dosen't respond I do. We have a tiny scene and we need everyone to participate and feel included. We have to be critical of the media and how we are represented .Hip-hop is ours you wanna here the voice of hip- hop ask hip-hop and listen to what we say. In a world of conflict I like to see us getting along somewhere. fin peace

I think ALL of the B-Boys would benefit from working and practicing together... It's not like they are that deep in KC anyway. .. And in the end, Fredo does come out looking like the bigger man in asking others to join them!

that's true... Dinsdale had a mission.. he was all about stirring things up and he didn't really care about being in the scene. He was out to stir up trouble and his edtior was all about it....so that's what he did. Nadia wasn't trying to stir everything up just to give an objective look into the scene from an outside point of view. an outside point of view is what the vast majority of the reader are coming from as well. Demencha.... unless you have shamed your mother or done something that you weren't proud of exposure is exposure. That's what i believe. The Pitch has actually done a good job of listing events / reviewing artists etc...hip-hop has been covered. The Pitch isn't going to be all lovey duvey with what they write. They don't wanna sound like a payola article so they include the good and maybe a counter idea...of what's going on with the subject. This lets the reader ( with no emotional attachment ) see a bigger picture than...oh..bboys are dope and they all love each other...that's what's bullshit cuz that's not real! haha. The pitch looks for an edge...a story to write about that will cross boundaries and be something you won't read in the Star. If anyone reads the paper on the reg. they should know what to expect.

The Pitch should be edgy. I like that about it. And I want an honest publication. I don't think any of us want The Pitch to be full of fluff, but I think in many cases they've just flat been unfair to the scene. Like Dinsdale's piece on "Rap The Vote".
  18. Mar 21, 2006 12:14am by sikestyle - -Stuff and Things...Things and Stuff... www.sikestyle.com Location: Kansas City
the rap the vote thing was intereting... i remember that piece being better than the one he did about the show at the hurricane where he seemed to poke fun at everything.... i remember that he said that only three ppl signed up to vote when actually there were a dozen or so... i dunno..tit for tat... and all that...

Dinsdale is a tool. Remember when those dudes from Tech9's crew wrote a verse about cutting him up? That shit was great. Nadia seems pretty cool...and she actually pays attention to things people on this site are involved in. The article was kinda weird to read though. If it created drama that didn't really exist thats kinda fucked up.

Don't know, but sometimes it's hard to be exposed in a less than favorable light, even if it be TRUTH. Personally, I have know nadia to be pretty fair and balanced, compared to most of the pitch reporters, and she seems to research more indepth. that said, the pitch is the pitch and yall know they have a rep for reporting conflict and controversy generally. Whatever there is that is truth, probably hits some buttons and ya know how that is "makes ya flinch". what is cool tho is that hiphop is getting press, (of any kind) locally, and tho still pretty rare, that press links us to curious seekers (and we hiphop culture needs new blood from time to time). there were several folk @ the nut last night because of the article, there were some missing because of the article and overall there is a taking stock opportunity for all those who flinched. what would not be cool tho is, if this article was allowed to created beef where there is / was none before. I know that did not happen and that what beef there is has been in the breaker community well before nadia wrote her article exposing the beef. I also know that Nadia, a professional, can stand the "heat " krs one said "are U an emcee, breaker, beat maker, dj, graff writer ? then U R hiphop, erbody else are observers of this culture and need to be seen accordingly, as outside of the culture, commenting on what they see. I'm the 1st to say, this means me too. peace and nuff said nrg

I think it's a mis conception that her article started any drama between anyone in the scene. Those ppl already had a problem with each other in some form or another. The drama that it did cause was ppl against her. In that case she's the only one that really feel the heat for that. The scene moves on....

sike I hear ya on that point and maybe the way I stated my comments doesn't show that. I really understand that her writing about it brings the heat on her. I for one think her doing so is helpful to the breaker community really. sometimes when someone cares they point out the stuff you're not that proud of and that airing of things gives you a chance to "see yourself" and make different choices. so yeah, she's in the hot seat. I find her peices to be generally fair, well researched and often less inflammatory than most, while still have an edge to them.

I just wanna know 1 thing. For all of you who found the article enlighting in anyway you have found yourself to know something about our scene please tell me this. What is the difference between Uprocking and Toprocking. Secondly please name of the first Kansas City crews. You know the ones who pioneered what we are doing. Further more please tell me where we have gone to gain the national respect that we lack here within our own scene. Now please again answer these questions and we shall find out who learned what from the article. Good day and good riddance. The only beef that i can see within this "discussion" is the beef that the scene has with us. Many of us were out here repping when you weree just day dreaming about doing this so called "hip hop thang" So please email me, pm me, message me, or holler at me when you see me around if there is some sort of beef and ill be more then willing to set you straight about anything you might want to know. This is not directed towards anybody in particular but everybody in particular. I have no beef other than the way that us BBOYS get mistreated in the local media, National Media and further more our own peer. Way to represent that real hip hop you all speak so much off. Holler! Mpphffdd…mmmpdnff.f…. Ahem…oh….excuse me there I must have been choking on something… Oh yeah…the new sike undies…they are out by they way and I think I have your size. Are you a B cup too? I think you’d look nice in black….or do you prefer all white and church shoes? Really Fredo, is all this necessary? So what if I defend Nadia? Am I not afforded this right? This story wasn’t about Jamal….the anti-crew article was pretty good….they do look like math nerds. Yeah and Mac was on the cover, what’s your point? Did you wanna be on the cover? Do a handstand or something for the camera instead of rolling around on the floor. That article that Dinsdale wrote I didn’t agree with, and I advocated a diplomatic response to what he wrote. I didn’t ask God to have mercy on his soul for writing an article. C’mon…isn’t that takin’ this a lil far? It’s really not that deep. Nathan wrote that story and it was wrong, really wrong. But you know what life goes on and the scene has progressed no matter what the article said. People made things happen. That article didn’t stop anyone from comin’ to shows it didn’t stop anyone from buying local music. So tell me what this article is going to do to the b-boy scene? Nooooooooothing. I am surprised people take you seriously Fredo. And I would wager that more people tolerate u than actually admire you. For as long as I have known about you have been one big walking drama queen. I’ve seen you come into jilly’s and turn your face up at flotilla, and talk shit as you leave. I’ve seen you ask for design work and open your wallet only to find lint balls. In STL you were bitchin’ about being in the group photo and then as you walk back into the venue you are still talking shit. For someone who wants the positive side reflected, I haven’t known you to be very positive at all. So an article about beef seems to fit you well. I’m not going to humor this any longer but this is where I stand. -be mature about you opinions and respect others’ -learn how to network and make friends with the press -have some business sense for once -leave people’s personal relations out of things. -I’m about the scene and all of its elements, minus the Fredo element. Maybe I don’t have a Taliban type approach to hip-hop’s purest form, but do my part to support the local b-boy scene and everyone knows that I do what I can to make things happen when possible. -Maybe Nadia’s story wasn’t the best…maybe her editor left all the important details on the cutting room floor….maybe someone has more to do than to trip off this and get back to makin’ the scene what it’s supposed to be. I challenge you Fredo. To go forth and spread the good word of the hip-hop gospel and not rip anyone off…not to talk shit behind someone’s back and not to wear white pants after labor day…haha.. okay, but for real man. You are all drama and you were a hero in this story.
  33. Mar 22, 2006 09:25pm by superfreshbutterfly
I agree with Sike. This thing is getting way out of hand. If you have a problem, write a letter to the editor or talk to Nadia. Is it really helping to act this way? Further more, don't blast off on the media as if they never cover the positive aspects of hip-hop without knowing your facts. The Mac cover was thorough, the story on Anti-Crew was also well done and over at The Star there has been well written stories on Nezbeat, SoundsGood, national hip-hop acts and tons of local hip-hop events. And by acting the way a lot of you have been acting, you are perpetuating the sense that you like the drama. There was a lot of positive aspects of the story, but you choose to focus on the negative. Well, you keep on feeding off all that negative energy, everyone else is moving on. And hopefully people who were cool before will remain cool. People love the B Boys and B Girls. People love Nadia. So just chill out.

WOW!!! this has gone really deep....when it was a good article...It told the TRUTH...and in the end i was even thinking that Fredo sounded like the bigger man....which it seems i have given a little to much credit...and it is even more ironic that with as untrue you want to say it is ( Fredo, middleground) you are proving all the very points you are saying are false.... First off nobody has answered any of my questions so [b:2fee96f88e]I WIN[/b:2fee96f88e] secondly Fredo keeps perputrating the points we are saying are lies? can you trashbags read? Fredo said the premise of the article was all a lie. That the article was supposed to be a informative peice on the history of bboying in kansas city. Instead this peice of trash came out. He never said anything about the so called "beefs" portrayed. If anything this article caused some shit. That wasnt there or if it was nobody gave 2 shits about. And thats speaking about the people involved. Well obviously Marcus cares. But ive talked to other people in the article and there mind is blown. Again that was the point that was made. Yall keep saying he's proving them right. So i dont get it. Are yall that fucked in the head or do yall just really dont have a fucking clue about what yall are talking about. Yall gotta cheerleader complex. Im happy for you I hear the Jayhawks could use some help. But im a Bboy and I dont cheerlead. I leave that shit for the underachievers on the sidelines. Point blank to dig deeper into the article this whole shit with the so called outcasts was some shit that happened about 3 years ago. Then some newjacks came along the scene and i cant tell you about that. All i know is that shit was deaded way before this article was even thought off. And Sike you mad funny. I know whats up when it comes to you. But since the whole board is supposed to be lovey dovey and on some kumbaya homo shit Ill save that for later. Untill then peace be unto those on HHKC.com some of yall are cool some of yall are mad fake. and some of yall are just straight blind.

its sad that you can't just say how you feel w/out any underhanded comments....and in all honesty it sounds like the only people who are fake are the bboys who i thought cared more about there art then trying to talk about all of the past history..and who started what and how and who is involved ..... I know what is going down despite what you will say and it is NOT about winning it is about everyone getting along.... and helping the scene grow not living in all of the past history .... I want to see all the bboys dance together Today not 3 years ago.... I thought certain individuals were bigger than all of this.... I love Oscar the Grouch and he lived in a Trashcan can that be close to being a trash bag............haha

NOW on to those who's minds are open an who don't let things like sex, polticks, business, agendas, and hearsay run their lives.. A SINCERE THANK YOU...FROM MYSELF... thank you for not acceping what you've been told but for hearin both sides of the issue those traits will get ya'll far in this world we live in keep them alive!!! Just because this thread is way too short, I think it might finally be time to weigh in. I’m glad that people have become involved in this conversation – the parts that were insightful and the parts that were just fucking funny. As for the people who “sided” with my story, not that there is one side versus another (because the story’s just a telling of events, simple as that), I don’t think that people did it solely because they were my friends, even though they’ve become friends, thanks to my hanging around this scene that I actually, truly do care about. I think that my friends just happen to be smart people who saw this situation for what it is and called it like they saw it. Which is what I did for this story. Some stories require lots of digging and Sunshine Requests and hours at the library. Other stories require eyes, ears, a brain, and the help of Internet forums like Midwest Flava (where all the beef between the b-boys I wrote about is documented, even though we’re pretending like I pulled that shit out of thin air now). I wanted to write a story that contained a telling of the history of an important part of the hip hop scene. What came out was an oversimplification of some drama that’s pretty routine in the b-boy world, from what I can tell, and unfortunately, you need some kind of conflict like that to get readers from the beginning to the end. Overland Park soccer moms still think that breakdancing is one step away from gangbanging and probably don’t want their kids doing it. Maybe this story helps people like that see that it’s not that way. I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to go from the cradle to the grave writing a historical document about every time a b-boy from the Circuit Breakers to Buggin’ Out took a shit, but the fact is, I wrote a 7000 word story that did contain a lot of true history and gave credit to some cool cats for holding it down for so long, and my editor had to cut it down to 4000 words and he did what he’s gotta do: he chopped down to what was most interesting to him. Which happened to be the drama. I’m sorry if that sounds like I’m blaming someone else but sometimes making newspapers is like making sausage. I do regret the "Flashlight" error though. Copy editor: out of town. Fuck. Let me clear up another thing, while I’m at it: FYI: No journalist needs your permission to use your name in a story that involves you. But if you want a journalist to at least have a fair shot at getting some stuff right, it’s in your best interest to talk to them. If no one had ever spoken to me for this story, I could have gotten pretty close to done just by watching battles and reading people on forums. I didn’t ask Fredo about drama, I asked him about history, because that’s what he said he’d be willing to talk about. But just like I didn’t need his permission to – imagine this – ask someone else’s opinion about the scene, I also wouldn’t have needed his clearance to write about him, being that everyone agrees he’s an important figure in Kansas City b-boying. I could get into why some things made the cut in the story and other things did not, but you know what? I think there’s only three people on the planet who give a shit about my play-by-play in the decisions that went into writing this thing. And everyone else wants to get back to talking about hip hop. I’ll save it for some boring journalism forum. I’ve learned one thing: unless it’s a straight music review or something akin to what I’ve written about people like Reach or about events like Bembe Night in the past, I’m not too jazzed to cover a scene I’m involved in again, not for a feature. I love the Kansas City hip hop scene, just as a fan, an observer, a groupie, and so I’m never going to say never. I wouldn't want someone else who doesn't care about hip hop doing it, that's for sure. But it’s rough to divorce yourself from how you really feel in order to write objectively about people you still want to maintain a decent relationship with. I respect every single person that I wrote about for this story and I hope they’ll keep doin’ what they do (except when what they do is talk shit on internet forums). There’s no lingering feelings here, in fact, I passed on Fredo’s number today to someone who wants to hire some dancers to perform at a reservation, and I know that if it works out, they’ll be teaching some kids something beautiful about hip hop culture that will totally brighten their day. It makes me happy to think they could get some bucks for it, too. I love to watch breakdancing. And I hope that even if I hurt some feelings in the course of telling this story, that no harm actually comes to anyone except maybe a little ego bruising. Because I took some here, too, and it was probably good for me. Except I’m not a liar. Kiss, kiss, gag, gag. Put your emoticons away! Can we put this fucking thread to bed now? p.p.s I’ll be out of town for b-boy appreciation night at the Peanut, unfortunately. But I too will be at the KRS-ONE show and probably every other HH&HW after that, and I’ll answer any questions anyone might have. Can’t battle you but I’m available for thumb wars. And p.p.s., my panties taste delicious.

StyleGirl? Pff on that? I didn't personally attack you, so dont personally attack me. You have no idea who I am, where I am from or what I am about. I have written good stories that have represented this community in a positive light and I am offended that you would discount my opinion on anything. This forum is not for beefs and personal attacks. But for the record, do your homework and find out who people are before you go out dissing people who didn't dis you. I'm done with this forum. This is crazy childish. And as far as StyleGirls, we as a whole have done nothing but support the scene and stand up and cheer on the ciphers, rhyme along with the lyricists, dance with everyone and buy the CDs and merch. So don't go dissing us either. I know about hip-hop, I love it, I live it, I know about Zulu, I know about the elements, and I know the way people are behaving right now is not what it's about. Peace.

i havent posted and i havent said anything until i was imformed about this thread. i've kept my mouth shut because yeah its just a pitch article which is usually worth nothing to begin with. they are know for doing controversial stuff and thats all that nadias questions were leaning towards anyways, i saw it going sour from the first point. the only thing that saddens me is what happened to ATT.. if one pitch article can break up the best all time crew in the united states, then one crappy article about bboying could kill the scene in kansas city.. seriously i dont even feel like dancing out in public anymore.. like i've been feeling that way before this started but this really made me feel this way... like i dont dance out in public because i like to be seen or because i like to be known, or because i'm any degree of 'good' - i do it for fun and to support the kansas city hip hop scene. sike you help us and we try to help you. dj's you do your thing for us so we try to do our thing for you... emcess same thing... goes to show from shows like the show at boley, or the show at the stray cat that i threw with anti crew. i dunnno... anyways though. everyone will have their opinion, just in mine it wasnt a good light on the bboy scene. but thats just me love to everyone heemzzzzzzzz

uhhh...actually while that article may have been the straw the broke the camel's back, there was a lot of other forces in motion which contributed to ATT's demise. I'm sure a lot of folks would agree. No disrespect to them.

I'm still trying to figure out how I got called out. All I said is that the story was an interesting read. It was. Because I don't know much about the b-boy scene to begin with. That said keep in mind that I don't know enough about the b-boy scene to know what was true and what wasn't. If the story was trumped up and used to put the b-boy scene in a bad light then I say shame on The Pitch. If it wasn't...Then shame on you. Only you and Nadia know what's really true. If you wanna build come holla at me Fredo. Don't throw me in the frying pan though son. That's not fair. I don't know much about either side to even comment. That's why I didn't really... Aside from calling out The Pitch for how things were during Dinsdale's time with the publication.

In all of hiphop's history, media misrepresentations and social nervousness have led to some of the most innovative advancements within this culture. Hiphop thrives on adversity. A big part of what hiphop is about is not letting society's conceptions of who you are sway you from what it is you do. The media is a conduit for common people to get a perspective on something they know little about. Its an outsider's view, meant to relay to other outsiders. I don't see how an article in a local rag could ever break up a crew, or stop somebody from breakdancing in public. None of us can afford to be so self-conscious. I really tried not to post on this thread, but I think we all need to overcome our fears of how we're portrayed. Focus on the heart of the artform, cause that should be why you're doing this shit in the first place.

sure ATT had issues but if you know the story then you know what happened. anyways it was an example of what a dumb writeup can do... and also.. there is so much talk on how things "should be" or whats supposed to happen to an element of hiphop... your tellling me... Heemz, I love watching you dance. And so does mostly everyone. People show mad love to the B Boys and I dont think any of you should quit dancing or stop coming to the Peanut. People love the peanut because its a place where all of the elements of hip hop can be found and there is no fighting. The energy there is normally beautiful. And I hope we can get back to that.

Writing is what I do. Just like making music or dancing is what some of you do. And if your work was called stupid and retarded and pointless and wrong and trash, the way that my story has been described, I wonder who wouldn't be soaking pillows with snot and bitter tears right about now. A lot of you wouldn't. Because a lot of you are professional. Go read that shit again. I'm not saying it was great, at all. But. It wasn't. Even. Mean. So Heemz, my story made you want to quit dancing? Awwww. Well all this criticism hasn't made me want to stop writing. How bout that? When you have the guts to do something like write beyond your private journal or dance outside your bedroom, you open yourself up to the world and different points of view. Welcome to being alive. I've gotten used to criticism. The worst thing ever is to print something and get silence. I think Reach was onto something...the moon must be in some kind of wiggy cycle where everyone feels like showing their teeth. I really hope that folks can get back to a collaborative cycle soon. That story isn't even on the newsstands anymore. It's officially done. I'm working on new stuff. B-boys are working on new moves (right?). Rhymesayers are thinking up new lines, beatmakers are weaving new sounds. Sike's probably making a new shirt. Haha. Get to work. The end, please.

How can you so mechanically separate the two? It is an artform on its own, true indeed, but to say that it isn't hip-hop is altogether illogical. Hip-hop isn't as static and conservative as you place it. It is American homegrown hip-hop at its finest. It isn't the hip-hop of 1973, but the hip-hop of now isn't 1973, either. You pickin up what I'm puttin down? Peace.

Damn I missed the heat. Let me start off by pointing out the obvious. I no longer live in KC therefore you might find my opinions irrelevent...skip this post then! (Had to get that out the way before some angry person on here wants to chime in with that shit after I add my two cents... Na Na Boo Boo, fucked it up for ya didnt I?) I like this thread. Mostly because thoughts and ideas go further than just the article and the bboys, I hope you all are seeing that. I also had this long winded story to add but I think it wont translate well in text...aka...im too lazy to type it. but there are some things i want to touch on because I still care about whats going on back home. Here starts the copy and pasting queen. Nadia, you are a GREAT writer and I like reading what you write. This article was not one of my favorites. Your job is not an easy one. The begining of the article was hard for me to read. I was embarrassed on how people were represented, so I stopped...but after a conversation that was brought to me the other day and the mention of this thread I read both it and this tonight. also a good point was brought up by one of the bboys. seriously (everyone) put yourself in one or a couple of their situations. i can understand the uneasiness. Everyone needs to remember though...as I am reminded constantly by my buddhist friend every time I want to choke a Texan... "THIS TOO WILL PASS" [quote:e6ef442feb]People like to read about beef....so the media prints it.... hip-hop has its fair share of beef and at times beef it was seems to spark the most interest or even spawn some of the highlights in hip-hop history. The bboy scene in this area for sure has it share of beef so to me it seems like they all go hand in hand. Hip-hop thrives of differnet types of drama... the media loves drama....people love to read about it... it's a cycle... Remember that there is no such thing as bad publicity. Sie, people do love to read about beef[/quote:e6ef442feb] Sike, a true statement but I think that might only be relevant to the beef concerning the rich or famous. The American society is obsessed with that because of the fact that they want to feel involved with what is going on in these peoples lives. Sorry as I am to say it but I don’t think the local bboys are on that level in all of KC...except maybe here in this thread. Shit, ,it got me here..but anyways I believe the article was too personal and this topic could have been a better read if it had a different angle. LIke Necia says...its cool as hell there are more articles being written about Hip Hop but we shouldnt be so desperate to settle and celebrate just anything. Strive for the positive..right? [quote:e6ef442feb]sometimes when someone cares they point out the stuff you're not that proud of and that airing of things gives you a chance to "see yourself" and make different choices.[/quote:e6ef442feb] You are right Necia. I have only found it to work when that person who is doing the pointing out is someone close to you. A perfect example of it not working would be several times in this thread. If someone doesn’t feel threatened or defensive when a not well known person to you approaches you in this way please let me know…because you are a rarity and I want to know you. I don’t think some of these bboys have that strong of a relationship built with Nadia to see it as a caring gesture to promote change. [quote:e6ef442feb]defending the scene in its fu*ked up relations does not help us grow and become more professional[/quote:e6ef442feb] I just wanted to add that in several conversations with people still located in KC I have found out quite a few people that used to be regular supporters and new ones that are no longer participating in a lot of the events that are going on in KC. I am not talking about the bboys. The reason for this from what I was told was the vibe at events. Your supporters are feeling outcasted. That their representation is not important because these events were made for the stroking of egos. Ive encouraged friends to go to several of these events and then in response a couple days later I have to listen to them vent about how they were rudely rejected when trying to tell an artist how much they like their work or uncomfortable because how clickish it was. I understand that this is business to some of you but you should be aware of how you are being perceived. If I wasn’t told about this it would have probably gone less noticeable to me but when I was out there for spring break I definitely could feel what they were talking about. You might not even care but something to think about while working on being professional. Uh..way more than I wanted to write...sorry[/url]

i thought i already posted this but i guess i didn't. i hate pitch articles. it takes until like the 5th page to figure out what point is trying to be made... it's like they want all the writers to go for a slow, mounting tension type exposé thing... when really, i only have about 30 seconds to look at an article before i've got better shit to do. besides that, i feel like it's been about 4 years since they've had an article with a positive angle... i mean there's probably been some, but not a whole lot. i feel like i'm watching crimestoppers on channel [insert number], and i don't think that gives a very interesting or well-rounded description of my kansas city. no disrespect to nadia or anything, i didn't read the article (since for the reasons i mentioned, i never read pitch articles anymore). i've just been turned off by the direction it's gone in the past few years. i don't think the pitch needs suspense or drama, but apparently the editors (or whoever) disagree.

Jakki you had some very insightful things to say. Especially the part about supporters who've hopped off the wagon. That's something we should all be mindful of. I'm kinda sad I missed you while you were here...

I for one appreciate the increased membership and traffic that it came due to this thread, nuthin really new there. We have all been pointing about how hype sales and gets interests piqued. this thread is a true testiment to that fact 1700 + reads 77 posts later I think we should have a hyped session every week if thats what it takes to get folks talking Other recent highlites are :miles 's interview, crimestopper's let there be beef and Nadia's article thread have really got folks talking about shit that matters beyond egos I like it. post here or don't Fredo, I'm good with it either way. just no beefin of that destructive variety please if you want the last word on this thread Fredo, you could probably get it now, unless of course you call someone out in a inflammatory way in which case the traffic will be up again and we'll see a rise in membership and . . . . . . . ya gotta know I hate that 8) take it away fredo last words? ps wouldn't dream of deleting this thread its as much of our current as the business insights, events, and shop talk nrg

It was late last night when I posted that. After re-reading it today I hope Nadia does not take what I wrote the wrong way. There was lots of things I wanted to say and had left out. Shes my friend and I hope I know her well enough to think that from past conversations and her personality she open minded when it comes to people voicing their opinions on Pitch and her articles. It kinda sounded like I was trying to bash on her a lot and that was not the case at all. Im not taking sides. There was just some things I wanted to point out about the other things people had brought up. I also left out that like I just said, Nadia will listen to what you have to say about her articles and the most beneficial way of expressing concerns would be in person...and to cut to the chase. I heard she was getting death threats. I hope thats not fareal...come on you guys. Necia and Reach, the thug T.B.- I have both of your numbers so when I get up there to visit again...damn, probably after graduation. I will hit you up and we can get them dope ass buffalo burgers from Bluebird Bistro, a drink, and shoot the shit with Phism Fredo- lots of jams out here...reach me if ya'll ever roll down
