Farrakhan's was strong as always, while also detracted form the discussion.
Both good though.
The best part so far for me was Belafonte's speech a few hours ago. I wasnt able to post then, otherwise I would have let people know earlier. It will make :the news, so catch the highlights. Additionally, it will re-air on
Monday NIGHT 8:30 PM again...
also will come out on DVD, including moments from past meetings as well.
I didnt know this was going on until I caught it this morning on TV as it began.
this is very historic, and important that can really turn into something large.

Summary:
The afternoon session of State of the Black Union 2006 was titled "Defining the African American Agenda, Part II." It was a continuation of the afternoon sessions of the State of the Black Union 2005 on creating a Covenant with Black America. Two panels, moderated by Tavis Smiley, discussed the progress black Americans have made since the completion of the covenant. They discussed the book edited by Tavis Smiley, The Covenant with Black America, published by Third World Press. The book presents plans of action for individuals, families, and communities on ten issues identified by the public: education, criminal justice system, police accountability, healthcare and well being, economic development and employment, housing and community development, participating in the democratic process, information technology, rural communities, and environmental justice. The first afternoon panel was "Defining the African American Agenda: Pioneers and Pacesetters." Panelists included: Harry Belafonte, Na'im Akbar, Raymond Brown, U.S. Rep. Melvin Watt, U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Cornel West, Kimberle Williams Crenshaw, Ken Blackwell, Jennette Bradley, Angela Glover Blackwell, Wade Henderson, and Nikki Giovanni. The second afternoon panel was " Defining the African American Agenda: Emerging Leaders." Panelists included: Dr. Ian Smith, Jim Shelton, Kamala Harris, Victor Marsh, Roland Fryer, Malia Lazu, Eddie Glaude, Lisa Ellis, Marcyliena Morgan, Trish Millines Dziko, Jerome Ringo, Suzanne Malveaux, and the Rev. Jamal Harrison Bryant. The event was held at St. Agnes Baptist Church. The Rev. Wright gave the afternoon invocation and the Rev. Lowery gave the benediction.
