The YWCA is proud to present a group art exhibit by over 15 local artists in conjunction with a three-week long film series called Colorblind: a look at racial and social justice.
Through the month of September the YWCA's Black Box Theatre will screen six documentaries, all created by women, to the community for free. The featured films will be hosted with open discussions by local community organizations/leaders, professors and filmmakers. These screening are an opportunity for individuals to communicate their concerns and issues with the community. Colorblind is made possible by grants form the Arts KC Fund and the Francis Family Foundation.
The film series will kick off with Considering Democracy - 8 Things to Ask Your Representative by Colorado filmmaker Keya Lea Horiuchi. This pointedly pre-presidential-election documentary looks at the image of the U.S. in the world, and asks viewrs to examine their expectations about foreign policy, health care and other issues. Horiuchi traveled across ten countries to shoot the film. The filmmaker is currently traveling across the U.S. screening her film and hosting discussions up until the election in November.
