[quote:b9c00d77df="NRG"]cha-che please NO VENUE NAMES IN THE HEADING. I have corrected your posts so far, but no more.
I will not sticky post with venue names in the heading any longer
thanks for your attention to this
nrg[/quote:b9c00d77df]
i'll keep it out of the heading from now on, but it seems a little odd to be such a stickler on this when the venue can be as much of selling point as the lineup in some cases. oh well...

Hey Necia,
I'm curious as to why we can't put venue names in the heading?
really just curious.

1. I just split a topic for the first time and had complete success. yeah for me
now this convo started in upcoming events and so it is now apart of community chatter.
sku asked for the reason why no venues in heading with events. so first
I will offer what I have already posted about this
[quote:bebf02228d]IF you really get to feeling pride in the site/scene/community, beyond the free advertising you get, I encourage You as an artists + members of the site, to buy advertising to announce your new releases / product/ services/offerings as well.
THIS WAY you know YOUR INVESTMENT IN HIPHOPKC going back into the KC HIPHOP community and will be reinvested into covering the cost of fulfillings hiphopkc.com's mission.
read it here if you forgot: http://www.hiphopkc.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=1&page=1
Our Goals are based on break-even kinda non profit thinking in action.

[of course we want our members to have t shirts and stickers to rep us with. we want to help fund local projects and events when we can, and we want to do business by buying or tradeing advertising space with those who make a fair offer. we have 0 budget to make any of those dreams come true yet, but if we persist, it could come to pass. ]
In Closing
all businesses are doing business and paying for advertising, this is not a new concept. Hiphopkc.com is no different. of course we have no marketing budget so we do link exchanges, ask folks to link to us and tell their friends about us, we talk to local artists person to person about hiphopkc and rely on the kindness of our local media for positive mentions and links to get the word out
if you have done one or all of these we thank you and plan on continuing to be worthy of such actions [/color:bebf02228d]
feel free to let your vendors, fans and supporters know that Hiphopkc has advertising available. the sites product is ADVERTISING so far[/color:bebf02228d].
yall know thats on the real!
please respect these bounderies [ venue names in headings, third party mentions and promoting non member products etc], I really gave this a lot of thought. I don't make these types of decisions on a whim.
peace and enjoy

thanks for asking about this.
so to sum this all up sku, it is my belief that hiphopkc.com is fulfilling its mission by ensuring artists and fans have way to communicate and stay informed.
I do not feel it is our mission to give free advertising to businesses that profit from our scene without some investment from them that directly benefits me for my time, yall for your countless hours of practice perfecting your talents, and shows some concern/commitment to the future of hiphop culture locally.
this is my opinion, I don't believe it needs to be shared by local artists, an understanding would be enough, but artists meet their goal differently than the site does. no issues with this.
Mark, Reach. and I give our time to the site to ensure that it meets its mission of fostering community. we hope the site will sell advertising to local business, clubs, artists or those who feels it benefits their purposes .
if you read the mission, you will have a sense of what we hope to do with the proceeds beyond payment to ourselves for our time.
again great question and thanks for asking

Still, the way to benefit the artists is to get asses in the seat and/or venues and some venues are more viable to people, so I believe having the name in the title is a good marketing strategy on behalf of the artists and family of hhkc.

thanks for responding jaybird
when you get to the jump page of this site, the first scroll is upcoming events. if you click on an event, the first thing you should see listed is the venue, if its not there, its because the person who posted the event didn't put it first.
my experience is that people come to see the artists and have drinks with friends. they just redid the peanut, it looks clean, but I don't hear heads talking about the peanut, I hear hiphop and hot wings @ the peanut.
I would be happy to sell the peanut or any other venue an ad. I am not into giving it away tho. this site helps get asses in seats already. the other part of that equation might be more promo by artists and fans.

i have to roll with jaybird on this... i agree i hear the same things about HH&HW but that is the exception not the rule. when it come to venues like riot room and record bar i would believe it would be something different since they're based off of shows not a set date. with me working door and bar at most of the venues in and around westport i have come to recognize they're a lot of people who just hit up one or two venues. just like some people are fans of artist some people just came out to sit at the bar. for us not to be able to place the name of the spot we're playing at in the subject is a true hindrance in my belief. but hey if you think one day that these bars are going to join up on sponsorship then keep rolling with it make that money i doubt that day would ever come... there has to be other ways to fund HHKC activities.

I read it all, but this is all I really heard. How much of a free promotion could these venues really be getting through this site?
If this site's supposed mission is to promote and advance KC hiphop and its artists, how do you take a promotion tool away in the name of the almighty dollar?
This point being made on the premise that some venues will bring a musician listeners he/she wouldn't normally have elsewhere based on venue alone.

agreed. isn't it about building a stronger network and getting as many people as we can involved in the scene anyway that we can?
