Guys I really enjoyed myself at the peanut last night. It was good to meet some new people, and see some people I haven't seen in way too long. NRG I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to introduce myself last night. It was a huge blessing to be in a place where so much hip-hop was represented. It was cool to see people dancing to real hip-hop instead of top 40 radio BS. B-People represented really hard and I haven't seen breakers in a club in forever. The art in the beginning was fresh too, I loved that he was doin random portraits. The DJ's were raw all night. A-Train was fresh, and props to him for opening up the mics. The emcees came dope during the cypher, and the live performances were a huge treat. Stik and JQ played off each other really dope and Reach is always dope live. It was good to just feel the hip-hop culture last night. I would love to come again sometime it's just a really long drive.

Yo, I agree, the Peanut was hoppin last night. But, damn, can you say congested? Not just the bar but my sinuses after I left that joint. I love the vibe but, sort of like Jilly's got back in the day, the event is too hot for the venue. I know you can't move Hiphop n' Hotwings, and next week they should be opening upstairs. But it is a trial of endurance to stand in a space in the crowd too small for your body for two to three hours trying to act chill. Haha, I love that its so popular though. I'm going to have to start breaking again just so I can move around a little without getting a drink spilled on me.
Like always, everybody held it down. And I would have hopped on the A-Train cyphe, but I was sure it'd be over by the time I made it to the front. Reach, you killed it. Like always, I'm more than glad to jump on adlibs, but I won't do it if we haven't discussed it already. Let me know. I was impressed how all the b-boys were spitting along with your shit. That was sick. Pz.

I definetley agree with my man Dropjaw, That show was worth both trips. I had no idea people could beatbox with basslines like that. The circle was dope as well, I might even come out next week if everything pulls together. Well done. I give props to eveyone involved.
Thank You, Kansas City!!!!

It was definitely packed to the wall.
I stepped out a couple of times. It was thick in the room.
Had to dip and dodge Fat Pat though.
You know he don't want nobody outside...

yo what up to my man reach an nrg....not to bust the bubble of the topic but i got sum stuff i need to get off my chest about last sunday at the peanut... first off yeah for the most part the peanut is cool anything that does hiphop is cool to me but jus got sum friendly criticisms tho that joint is way too small....and in my opinion the perfomances should be upstairs that would be a good way to even out the place have the performers /guest dj's an sum art work upstairs an have jus a reg dj plus bboy/girls downstairs.also last sunday was WACK....the lack of respect that was shown to us (bboys) was crazy....first off sumbody threw a damn bottle at us!!! fucked up tha cypher and our vibe and at least 4 people sum accidently but sum intentionally spilled their beer directly in tha cypher!!! now before ya'll respond with the accident theories,,imagine this..say reach was doin his set an sum asshole thew a bottle at him or spilled beer on his mic...or threw beer on the turntables or on sum writers canvas??? that shit would not fly....but its because we're dancers so its acceptable...no one steppud up to say that shit ain't cool...if i was runnin that spot i would've put niggas on blast on the mic but that's jus me...naw man i'm cool on the peanut for a while..at least until real heads recognize our role in this scene an in the culture of hiphop...well hopefully i can start sum shit of my own on sundays so there will be more variety an hopefully all you so called heads will support if not that's cool too i hear all these people talkin bout support but when i do my jams none of ya'll come thru unless ya'll bein put on and that shit is wack we all need to support each other if not then this scene will fade away ...respect to all tru writers,mc's,dj's,bboys, and promoters who give a shit about this scene an our culture!!!!recognize the real

whoa....
you sound a bit bitter there homie...and maybe a dash of spitfullness on the side. Don't take things so personal and let them get to you...it'll eat out your insides.
I have been noticing and increased amount of tension at the peanut starting with the new years show. That night this dude got pissed cuz he was getting heckled and took his shirt of....he looked like something out an Outkast skit...haha...other nights drunk ppl have tried to dance against the breakers and just get shut down...then their feelings get hurt....and then sometimes they wanna make noise....maybe even throw a bottle. (which i can't comment on cuz i didn't see)
Peaceful...that's how i would describe the peanut's vibe...since it's inception it's always been a place to chill or get down depending if the breakers will share the floor...haha...but seriously maybe it's the over crowdedness that is making people edgy.
I think that this night has become so popular that everyone wants in now...
everyone wants a piece...
the truth is...some acts aren't for the peanut's main audience...and i know Allen agrees with me on this. The peanut had a great vision when it started and has done a good job sticking to that.
-underground hip-hop
-good guest dj's
-the occasional emcee highlight
-feat. art.
all dope...
i think ppl from slightly outside of our own lil mid-town circle see what's going on and wanna be down. I don't blame them. But when they don't get love...on the mic or the floor the feel intimidated. Then comments like
"all ya'll backpack ni@@az is on other ish"
(someone told me that last week...i had to do lil twirl for him to prove i wasn't carrying anything on my back and not to be scurrrr'd)
the bottom line:
the b-boys want to retain their right to the dance floor...
the locals wanna watch sports center
fellas wanna holla...ladies wanna flirt...
i think the addtion of the upstairs could really relieve some of the social pressure people seem to have a hard time dealing with.
but how to address that? that's the question...how to pull that off just right...

^^^JAH upstairs was perfect over the summer.
We're talking about the heineken bottle right? I was standing on a chair taking pictures, than stepped down and almost fell, but landed on my feet. Then I hear a bottle break. I look down in front of my feet and there was broken glass out of no where. My point is, that bottle may have been intended for me. Who knows...
The upstairs does need to be reopened. This past sunday, the tables were arranged real weird, there were two fewer tables as there are usually. That was what forced everyone to be standing up, and probably caused tension. PEANUT PEOPLE: We need chairs and tables!
PEACE

its a really hard situation.
If the upstairs were open, the raw, real, hip hop community feel that EXISTS now, may be lost. What it is now known for, being hot and crowded, is somewhat cherished even if we dont realize it now. I like it how it is. Although I think it may be a good idea to attempt, for a month, having the upstairs open and see what happens. Then if its not working, it doesnt feel good. Close it again.
- Jan 19, 2006 04:37am by Lucidialect
The tables were actually moved out because there wasn't enough room for people to stand. Drinks were getting bumped off the tables as people were getting bumped into them. I was thinking they should get rid of more tables. Maybe if they cleared out the downstairs of tables, left some chairs, but kept it for standing room, and then had chairs and tables upstairs for people that wanted to chill out, that might work. Or sort of visa versa? Ionno, but the b-boys need their space, and the people need theirs. I think that is what is causing the tension, or part of it. You cop a drink at the bar and half of its spilt by the time you get somewhere to drink it. People keep running into other people, somebody doesn't want to apologize, or somebody doesn't want to accept an apology and it all goes bad. It'll get worked out, but people should be patient, and if they have gripes, or somebody's throwing bottles, go talk to the bouncer and get the bar involved. Maybe thats not the way to do it either, but if two people are having beef, thats only between those two people.

Yeah, so like last Sunday Johnny Quest spilled a Red Bull and vodka on me. So pretty much we had to brawl right then and there. I broke my beer bottle on the bar and slashed up his face pretty good, but then he got a good grip on the back of my head and smashed my forehead into the bar. There was a lit cigarette burning right where my forehead landed. Sucked. But then we were like, "Hey, what are we doing? This is the Peanut. It's all about peace and harmony and graff and backpacks and chillin'. It's all love, dog!" And then we drank Jager bombs and I threw up on his shirt. Best. Sunday. Ever.

What I mean is, a chill area is needed to keep the good vibes going especially with first time patrons.

Tension seems to be mounting from what I can see.
When you mix tight spaces, alcohol and bad attitudes...
Lookout for trouble.
