Topic: KC Fashion thread

Hello HHKC readers.
I was wondering if there would be any interest among the readers and writers of this site in having a FASHION section.
This section would discuss what new what's hot...and of course what's played out or just completely wacky.
This would be something for the lighter side of reading and discussion. Nothing to political or heavy, just something fun to share pics and ideas of what you think is dope or what you think KC hip-hop style should be.
I think fashion plays a large role in hip-hop culture whether we choose to fully embrace it or not the way we look to others does send a message.
Let me know what you all think about the addition of such a section on this site.

i don't think another section is needed. i suggest that the "create the buzz" and "i'm workin on" sections be condensed.
two cents

sounds like fun sike. do you think it would be better under the heart or someplace else.
I think its time to make a few changes.
my only concern is that it be about fashion not so much promotions we have ad space for that.

Sure under the "heart" would be a good section.
Everyone will be able to tell who is advertising and who is just bringing up a brand for discussion.
Brand names will be named...designers will be names and stores might even come up in conversation. But the point of the section would be just to open a dialog up to the forum about fashion not to promote one brand or another.
anyone else have any thoughts?

I used to be into clothes and shoes and shit, but since i got decks three years ago, all my spare money goes to music stuff.
but i just think that there's not enough chatter on this board to warrant another section. if anything, these different sections should be condensed somehow (my opinion). that's all..

No worries man. I'm an ATC trade shopper myself. I trade season for season. I hate spending more than 5-10 on one clothing item. I just change my mind too fast.
As far as new section goes, maybe it would be better to just start an ongoing thread for compromise, eh?

Here is what i think i'll do if a whole new section isn't made.
I'll just post something once a week...like a what's new post...
i'll date the thread so people know which one is current.
i'll start something later on and see how it goes..

It’s interesting to me that whenever a new thread is proposed on here; folks say there are already too many. I never get this feedback from anyone til then.
Here’s what the deal is:
I don't know if you have noticed or not but there is a whole other layer to this site that serves a completely different agenda.
The message board serves several functions:
a. an opportunity to chat with each other, (members only)
b. members can promote their product/creations ( public)
c. members can post in the middle of their creative process for feed back
( members only)
d. an ongoing archive of media coverage from outside the site ( public)
e. upcoming events gets the word out about live performances and gatherings (Public)
members only is just that if you aren't logged in you can't see or post these threads
Public is available to the public because I WANT the public to see know these things are happening. These 3 threads prove local hip-hop culture is dynamic and vital (part of my personal goal)
There are many of you as members who come here to visit with friends, promote a show or project and yes collaborate with other members here. That is the intent the way the site wants to support you and that's what you use and value.
But you are not watching the stats the way I do and I know that at any given moment, there are at least 35 to 50 folk not registered or maybe not logged in looking that the Public portions of the site getting information about shows, new releases, looking at photos, or checking the book list.
I HAVEN'T EVEN MENTIONED THE PARENT OVERSITE THAT THIS BOARD IS RESTING IN
The top menu boasts a book and movies list that when clicked take you to Amazon to purchase if you want to read or see an offering, Biz has many articles and opinions about music business and business in general, links you know , music hosts links to artists music, podcasts, archived radio shows, videos , and ARTISTS my least favorite section ( too labor intensive, too little return) list area artists, crews, offers a one sheet that is downloadable.
The photo section is the pictorial complement to the textual documentation of local hip-hop history and really together they are quite amazing.
I like the idea of a fashion thread and agree with sike that fashion is very much a part of hip-hop. I also appreciate sike forewarning me that there will be mention of brands, designers, and occasionally businesses who are not members of this site. He knows that matters to me for a variety of reasons. Mainly a concern about free advertising for folks who make money from hip-hop without supporting the culture in meaningful ways that sustain the culture. Thanks for that respect sike.
My feeling about there being too many threads is YOU ALREADY ONLY GO TO THE ONES THAT INTEREST YOU ANYWAY AND MOST OF THOSE ARE SOCIAL OR PROMOTIONAL AND ALL PERSONAL. TO ME THAT'S GOOD
Much of the stuff is about creating an ongoing historical document of local hip-hop (one of my personal goals)
I had hope there would be more documentation of the creative processes (for future artists) but I understand that while this process is NOT a secret it is earned through trial and error and / or shared with the artist(s) of your personal choice also understandable and not about me. In my analysis, what you're working on's content can now become a part of the archive of the site and make way for a fashion section experiment. and I supspect this is a trial run for something you will do for yourself in the future sike, but that's fine with me cuz that's is generally what happens on here, members post songs, art, writing, thoughts, etc here as a way to get feedback, learn, and work out the kinks before that decide to create their final version, the public is privy to parts of this and not other parts
like demencha mag or open mic mondays, or your last styles.
that's what its all about really
In spite of my very strong desire to not give free advertising to any business (read non member) that makes money from hip-hop yet does not put some of that money back into hip-hop. (Philosophical). I know. . . . . . .. . . and yes I know that individual local artists build relations with and make money from those businesses and that is wonderful, but to have those member/artists promote third party for those businesses on here bothers me at some deep principle level.
Hiphopkc.com sales ad space and that is the site’s product. what the sale of ad space does is pay for me and mark's time, fund site sponsored events that help fulfill hiphopkc’s mission, build a fund towards creating a future physical place (read non- profit community center) where local culture and its micro-businesses can come together in real time much like we do in virtual time now here.
so with all that I have said, when I get some time, I will create a fashion thread, archive what you working on, and probably delete the top menu's artists link. I ain't feeling that work no more.
thanks for reading and as alway feedback is more than welcomed its appreciated and sought out

Fucking word. The best fashion (in my humble opinion) isn't about the price, it's about the articles playing nice with each other.
Obviously.
