I don't hate anyone.....but you shouldn't shop at Mal-Wart. Wal-Mart sues disabled woman... Debbie Shank was hit by a semi-truck. Now Wal-Mart is suing her family to recoup paid medical fees. Randi Kaye reports. http://www.truveo.com/WalMart-sues-disabled-woman/id/46662405 [color=yellow:b906684f27]Debbie Shank suffered severe brain damage after a traffic accident 8 years ago that robbed her of much of her memory. She cries every time she’s told that her son was killed in Iraq, as if hearing the news for the first time. After winning the lawsuit against the trucking company involved in the accident, her husband put the money in a trust to pay for Debbie’s long-term care. And now, retail giant Wal-Mart wants that money: Eight years ago, Shank was stocking shelves for the retail giant and signed up for Wal-Mart’s health and benefits plan. […] Wal-Mart had paid out about $470,000 for Shank’s medical expenses, but in 2005, Wal-Mart’s health plan sued the Shanks for the same amount. The Shanks didn’t notice in the fine print of Wal-Mart’s health plan policy that the company has the right to recoup medical expenses if an employee collects damages in a lawsuit. In fact, they want the money so badly that the sued the family (and won): Wal-Mart spokesman John Simley, who called Debbie Shank’s case "unbelievably sad," replied in a statement: "Wal-Mart’s plan is bound by very specific rules. … We wish it could be more flexible in Mrs. Shank’s case since her circumstances are clearly extraordinary, but this is done out of fairness to all associates who contribute to, and benefit from, the plan." Jim Shank said he believes Wal-Mart should make an exception. "My idea of a win-win is — you keep the paperwork that says you won and let us keep the money so I can take care of my wife," he said. The family’s situation is so dire that last year Jim Shank divorced Debbie, so she could receive more money from Medicaid. Jim Shank, 54, is recovering from prostate cancer, works two jobs and struggles to pay the bills. He’s afraid he won’t be able to send their youngest son to college and pay for his and Debbie’s care. "Who needs the money more? A disabled lady in a wheelchair with no future, whatsoever, or does Wal-Mart need $90 billion, plus $200,000?" he asked. Legally, Wal-Mart is in the right. But morally, I don’t think so. There’s a Wal-Mar near where I work, and I shop there quite often. But after reading this, perhaps it’s time to go to Target, which is a just little farther away.[/color:b906684f27] Her 18 son was killed, fighting in Iraq, a week after all this happended. [quote:b906684f27]WalMart is a greedy bully. How much profit is enough for this mega multi-billion dollar giant? In the past, I minimized my shopping at WalMart despite the competitive prices because it has put so many community mom and pop shops out of business with their obnoxious Corporate America greedy mentality that helps line the pockets of its top executives. How much is enough for these sharks? As a result of how they are handling the Debbie Shank case, I will now completely stop shopping there. Sam Walton, the founder of WalMart, once commented: “There is only one boss - the customer. And [the customer] can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending their money somewhere else.” One customer’s voice may be small, but collectively we can bring this mega giant to its knees. Jane M. Markley[/quote:b906684f27] And no Target isn't just as bad.... http://sites.target.com/site/en/corporate/page.jsp?ref=nav%5Ffooter%5Fvalues&contentId=PRD03-001086 Wal-Mart dropped the case. I love food. We make three trips every week to 3-4 different markets. First it the River market for freshly grown local veggies. Then the Huge Asian Market downtown for the fresh fish hookup. Love me some Red Snapper, Bass, and Shark. they got it all! Then we hit Sunfresh for the nitty gritty. We have to get produce at sunfresh, in the Winter. Sometimes we hit Bichelmeyer's on 7th street for local chicken and beef. But nothing, nothing beats a Campo Lindo farms chicken. organic, free range, no antibiotics, pure and yummy. My Lady and I are starting our own garden, this year. We are also going to split an organic, hay/grass fed whole cow from southern Missouri Its going to cost about $350.00 a family but we will have meat for about three to four months. check it! http://www.kcfoodcircle.org/ http://kcfoodcircle.smn-rab.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=387 http://www.foodnotlawns.com/ http://groups.google.com/group/KCFC-Bulletin-Board http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf582744.tip.html If anyone wants to help plant. I will probably have a planting/graffiti paint day. We can grill, chill, play music, watch some grafitti put up, and plant seeds. This is quite a project, anyone who helps me plant, can help themselves to what ever grows in the Summer. Anyway..... thats what I plan on doing while my walls get tagged. I will post more when I get a date from the artists. [img:c448b8c2bc]http://www.localharvest.org/images/member/thumb/thumb_9128.jpg[/img:c448b8c2bc] Eat as Local and organic as you can. Shit get a 5 gallon bucket fill it with dirt buy some starter plants, (one plant per bucket), get you some tomatoes or hot peppers, they are so easy to grow. shits delicious too. Thank me in July or August, when that tomato juice drips down your chin. thats whats (growing) up!

Necia told me about this just last weekend. Shameful. I don't really mess with Walmart too much anyway, but this gives me more reason not to. Even more sad that this though is that if I researched all of the companies I patronize I'd probably have to grow my own food and make my own clothes. There are so many stories like these all over.

You know who's been on the board of Wal-Mart? Hillary. Rather ironic...I wonder what she's done for Wal Mart employee health insurance? (Answer: not much.)

There are so many stories like these all over.[/quote:00c0b42345] With the way the economy is growing we might just have to. The whole reason I got into this, was because of listening to Alternative Radio taking about communities and neighborhoods getting back to supporting themselves and building a self-sustaing environment. I live on the Westside, in a strong Latino community. Pretty much everyone communicates with everyone, in some way or another. I have a true feeling of being a part of a community. Its like having an actual neighborhood or something. We have a community action network, BBQs, garage sales. Just this weekend there was a Taco dinner @ Sacred Heart to raise money for the neighborhood youth baseball team. Bring back Victory Gardens! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_garden as well I got a mad list of companies I don't support. Chiquita (contributes to terrosim(The spouses of five missionaries killed by members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) are suing fruit giant Chiquita Brands International for its role in financing the rebel group in the 1990s. The victims were working along the Panama-Colombia border for a Florida missionary group. Last year, Chiquita admitted to paying millions of dollars to a right-wing Colombian paramilitary group on the US terrorist watch list and agreed to pay $25 million in fines.) Dole (uses pesticides), Kraft, Kellog and General Mills have lobbied for right to advertise directly to children Kellogg, Kraft Foods and General Mills have created a new lobbying group to defend the right to advertise to children. The new lobbying group is called the Alliance for American Advertising. Starbucks, Toyota, Countrywide, Mattel (Barbies, HotWheels, and Guns (mattel has the biggest military "small" weapons contract in the world ( they have the biggest and best molding facilities , think about it!)), Nestle, Blackwater (soon to be America's first responders, as opposed to say the Fire Dept or Ambulance..... No! First to arrive on the scene, it will be a privatized homeland security company). [quote:00c0b42345] JEREMY SCAHILL: Blackwater really jumped into the domestic operations component of its business in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. They started a whole new division of the company for domestic operations. Blackwater sees disaster response as a gateway, one of the gateways, into a massive Homeland Security budget and that the Department of Homeland Security, like all agencies of the federal government, is being radically privatized. 70% of the US national intelligence budget—sixteen intelligence agencies—70% of that budget is in the hands of private contractors. The Border Patrol is—it faces the prospect of being privatized. DynCorp, one of Blackwater’s competitors, has said it wants to put boots on the ground as privatized border patrol. Blackwater is a very innovative, cutting-edge company, and they are sticking their fingers into every pot that they can get them into, and Homeland Security is a major one. And one of the gateways into it, like Darfur for international peacekeeping, is to say, “We can be the first responders. We can respond to the hurricanes, the floods, the fires.” It’s a gateway.[/quote:00c0b42345] http://www.democracynow.org/2007/12/10/what_is_blackwaters_role_in_the Wal-Mart, Wendy’s, McDonald's, Taco Bell, Colgate Palmolive, BP, Exxon/Mobile, Chevron, Wal-Mart, Hershey's, the GAP, Abercrombie (racist against Latinos, Blacks, and anyone not gay or pretty. Im having a hard time understanding how nobody sees that Hillary was the only woman on the board of directors for 7 years and the workers at Wal-Mart don't get shit for benefits. So how is she going to get good benefits for the rest of us? Think of the U.S. as a huge ass Wal-Mart, Hillary is ruining, I mean running things. Wheres my over time Hillary? Can I become a full time employee? Oh i go to jail if I don't get health care? Thanks b**** I almost crapped myself when I seent em closed on Easter Sunday. My girl was like i didn't know they ever closed. sad! I admit its not easy. There are a lot of thing I had to give up (nike), but I feel better as a person knowing I am not contributing not one dime to helping these f**kers out. Its odd when you hear more stories of corruption and evil doings and feel good that YOU stopped helping them pay for their pensions and evil programs. Wether you like it or not. Yessir, Wally World is no saint. But try living in a small, white-trash town and finding a reliable alternative. That is why Wal-Mart prospers and will continue to prosper, white-trash has no alternative.
