I think it's awesome that they're getting involved... Though, there is still a class issue between the two regions that are separated by the street. Troost will (at least for a long time) be the line that separates hood from "Historic KC" or "white areas" in the city. I think the purpose of the tulips is just to get rid of the notion that it is the barrier and not so much to bring more white people to the east side of Troost or vice-versa. I think that can happen though. It would take more time.

my first though was tulips not hate. You gotta start somewhere and as the article says, there is an opportunity for anyone black white rich poor whatever to jump in and participate in the planting. creating constructive ways, places (timeout zones), the possibility (suspended reality) works in the heart and mind. you might forget the divide for a while. feel ya tho on the though history of troost and other planned divisions of kc metro

troost has alot of history. I was talking with a guy on sunday who tld me the history of troost, he ran one of the record labels in the 70's here from the troost area. He told me about how troost was the area to perform and to be known if you were a soul singer during that time period.

Anyway, fuck a border. ONE RACE, THE HUMAN RACE. Peace-

The unfortunate truth is that hate still lives in the hearts of men and until we can breakthrough that barrier we'll always need such efforts. It definitely will take much more than an isolated effort, but... I think it's a great place to start and I've already gotten details on how I, myself, can volunteer. I'll be there on the weekend of the 3rd in all likelihood. I just hope it's not a disproportionate showing of Eastsiders. A nice turnout from the other side will say alot about where we are.
