Topic: The Term Hip Hop Club
- Oct 1, 2007 03:13pm by DjShad
I was reading my paper this moring and an incident happed this weekend at a venue and the first words in the article describing the venue was HIp Hop Club. Its wiled because violent incidents have happend the past few weeks at other venues and no one used the term to describe the music that is in the club. There was a bar in Shawnee where the owner ran over a patron and no one used in the description a country bar in shawnee or the incident when a lady was hit in the middle of the street leaving a bar and no one used a dance/pop bar. It trips me out because I have to deal with this weekly/sometimes daily because the images/terms of hip hop clubs. Its dad because club owners are first to say we don't want hip hop but the bigest consumers and patorns of clubs are white females. I get more request from white females than i do from other demographics, i've even been told by the demo that when i'm playing hip hop, "I'm not hip hop because i'm not playing kanye." I was kinda mental confunkulated this weekend because i was listening to a mixshow on a pop station and they were playing throw your hood up and other records that are notorious for starting riots in clubs. I've stayed away from certain records in the club because of i know and have seen the damage they have done to venues. Sometimes I feel, am i not urban enought for not playing agressive records or being responsible because i want to keep hip hop in the clubs in the city. I've deal with people usin the term ghetto in surban bars when i play one hip hop record or the fear that the place is going to become "ghetto" when more than 5 black people show up at a club. Its a wild word we live in.......sorry for the raint

I suggest we bombard every local station with a protest for calling skybox a hiphop club .
KANSAS CITY METRO DOESN'T HAVE HIPHOP CLUBS. PERIOD!
SEVERAL ALLOW "HIPHOP NIGHTS" THAT ARE CREATED BY THE HIPHOP COMMUNTY, NOT THE CLUBS THEMSELVES"

It's unfortunate that anyone ever links the genre of music being played in the club with an act of violence.
That's more about a Hip Hop bias than it is about any singular act of crime, but I'm saying something we all know.

if we think about it, every club in the city plays a hip hop record or a hip hop influenced record(including country i.e. she has a badunkadunk song). It's just wild being singled out becuase a club happens to play hip hop that its labeled a "hip hop club". I am sure the star would be happy being call a white bread newspaper. Even thought people night not say it, terms do influence peoples mindstates. Lately alot of clubs and venues have been opening their doors to hip hop events, we it might be a backlash soon. Lets call what happened on saturday what it is, it had nothing to do with the club, 2 guys were fighting over a girl and they shot outside in the city market area. If people have been, it can go down anywhere in the city. There was a radio show a few weeks back talking about why hip hop clubs are so violent(this is from a 40 year old white male who has never been to a "urban" club). I was thinking about a public forum that talks about whats going on in the city. if you think about it, 10 years ago it was plenty of places for african-americans can goto and if you think about now we can out on our hands the establishments where people are welcomed.

embrace it.
i want to open a club that serves nothing but cheap alcohol, is open til 3 am, and is as ghetto as possible. then again, that would probably attract only white people, now that i think about it.
