Y'know, Lenny is undoubtedly a talented cat and I enjoy his beats as much as the next man, but this review kind of makes Bro Mo look like a chump by saying that he's "lucky" to be rapping over Lenny's beats and then goes on to take 80+ words to describe said beats. Aaron is an equally talented rapper and I, for one, would have liked to see more analysis/mention of his contributions to this project.
That said, always nice to see these guys release something and get some print love.

I wrote it.
This mixtape opened my eyes to how talented Lenny D is. And I wanted to make that the focus of the article.
I know Bro Mo is no chump on the mic.
Skillaimbeer, have you heard the CD?

yeah, I see what you're referring to. the article says deep thinkers and then launches into lenny d. as chris said he wanted it to focus on lenny's production. maybe another title would have made that clear like lenny d of deepthinkers . I don't however think that chris was intentionally dissin
Bro Mo, I know that chris is a dj himself and writes spin cycle which is I'd say totally focused on area dj's and their event, so in my opinion, it just took on the flava of a spin cycle article.
my 2 cents

I am fully aware that the Pitch only allows its writers 150-200 words on an album, which is hardly enough (in my opinion) to crack the surface, let alone give an in-depth analysis. I am also fully aware that Lenny is one of the most consistently forward-thinking producers in the area, something that came to my attention upon listening to "Kiss The Sky" off of Necks Move and has continued through listens to the Symbol Heavy tape and other projects that he has been involved in.
However, from a journalistic standpoint, a Deep Thinkers review should encompass all aspects of the Deep Thinkers - not just a cursory mention of the MC and a veritable dissertation (considering the word limitations) on the producer. By glossing over any contribution that Bro Mo made to this album, you are only telling half of the story. Chris, perhaps since you are a DJ, you naturally focus more on the beats and not the rhymes. Reading your past reviews and articles, though, I know that this is not the case.
My intent was simply to point out what to me seemed like a discrepancy - not to hate on you, your writing style, or press for one of my personal favorites in the area (by the way, I'm going out to purchase "Don't Call It A Mixtape" this afternoon). You took it upon yourself to post your article - I took it upon myself to raise a question about it. Let's leave it at that and put any hurt feelings aside.

no no no
my feelings weren't hurt, not even slightly. 😀
I think when you buy the CD, you'll see what I mean about focusing on Lenny D.

clear up this quote for me. I'm not sure what you're talking about.
I enjoy people giving me feedback about my writing. No ill feelings, dude!

Chris - I was just surmising that PERHAPS you focused more on the beats rather than the rhymes in ALL of your reviews, given your background as a DJ. However, since I always read your stuff (because it's almost always about music that's of interest to me), I know that your articles are well rounded, focusing on both aspects. That's why I was wondering about this particular review.
I didn't mean to come off like an asshole. I write for the Pitch as well and it's a pain in my ass (as I'm sure it is yours) to say things that are worthwhile about ANYTHING, let alone a piece of music, in a 200-word space.
Keep fighting the good fight and I will too.
