The one guy who was doing shows like this....Edwin Morales...no longer lives here. There really isn't anyone doing consistent hiphop shows right now.

honestly, i say do it yourself. all you have to do is talk to whatever venue you think is best for the show, pick a date that works for them and the performer, find some openers, and start advertising. although maybe when you're working with bigger names you need to work out a more specific money deal, still.

phism has great advice....at the core it's really about networking and finding the crowd that is into what you are promoting to them and being able to follow through with a good event. Phism's hip-hop punk show in the bottoms was really live... oh and i am kinda burnt out on the promotional tip for hip-hop shows at moment... but if you've got the skills... throw the show.. peace

Talk to a couple local acts to open for the show that you know promote themselves and would bring a crowd. Human Crop Circles would be happy to open for your show if you get this going. Come to the Record Bar on Friday if you want to see us perform. The Record Bar is also a good venue to peep. They've housed DJ Premier, Brother Ali, and mad other shows. Their sound and stage is good.

also, have we tried booking things at the grand emporium? i've recently noticed that they've been doing a lot of all ages shows. p.s. speaking of that, i want to do another hip-hop/punk show... somebody was talking to me about wanting to have another one last night actually... it's just an issue of venues and stuff, because i prefer to stick to all ages if i can. plus my job could schedule me at any time.

I disagree with all the suggested promoters mentioned here. I say get with Mythik and Dublow, the guys who do the wednesday night jumpoff at the peanut, and have them host it on wednesday there. They're both on hiphopkc, but if you need their myspace addys hit me up on my email at [email protected]. Plus the wednesday night peanut crowd is really cool. I remember I saw c rayz open up for the perceptionists in lawrence...he freestyled half his performance. awesome...
