that is my feelings too milkdrop, that's why I am putting it before the community to see if they feel it is
1. what we are looking for or should it be more urban
2. something they will commit to fundraise, use their talents to
create money to keep it afloat, donate time to develop and operate programs events, write grants, whatever
3 work as a community to ensure the safety and wellbeing of each other
as we build this place as our community home.
I will have short info sheets on the foundation saturday at the Clinic Garden party.

NRG it is a nice looking house and what not but if you are looking for something urban have you checked around Westport/Ku Med area or even Mid-town? To me that is more urban than south KCK. The house itself looks real nice I could see some jam sessions out on the deck.

The idea sounds good.
Necia, ultimately it's your credit and finances that would be tied into this thing. I don't doubt heads would contribute, and be glad to do shows and events to help sustain it. But, you're the one responsible for it. So, if you're comfortable with that, go for it. But be careful with a situation where the measure of success depends on the commitment of people who's names aren't on those papers.

the real estate market is bad everywhere right now, that'd be my only concern. i don't know how easy it would be to flip that house if things didn't work out in the end.
Are the plans to raise funds and get grants in order to buy the house, or in order to pay the mortgage, utilities, and maintain it monthly? probably looking at 15-1800 a month mortgage alone if the price of the house stays at 175.
I'd be interested in proofreading or even helping in the grant writing process though, that would be my best talent to lend.

again, this is not about me. if it were, I would not have posted it here.
I'm asking the community to weigh in on whether it prefers an urban/industrial setting or if proximity to the city is good enough.
I am looking for space that the community will feel at home in enough to pitch in, share in the maintenance of whether through money, time, knowledge, grant writing, performance, teaching, cooking, painting, or creating art.
as far as this being south KCK, its county line road, which is 47th street between mission and roe. so really about 10 minutes from the peanut downtown. no outside the urban setting my much.
I just sent out a mailing to the entire membership of hiphopkc.com and so far have received 250 returned emails out of 662 members. If some folks won't commit their email to this site, I know they aint down at the level of commitment I'm talking about to get and keep this hiphop haven.
good new is it doesn't take erbody to make and keep a good thing going ya know. so again its all good yeah!

Actually, I would be responsible financially in the beginning, but that would give way to me sale-ing it to the metropolitan kc hiphop foundation,
then it would be the foundation's responsibility to suggest and raise continual substainable funding for its upkeep, utiliites, mortgage, partime paid staff and supplies and equiptment. the fall I attending a fundraising certification seminar so I can feel prepared to spearhead fundraising activities.
hopefully there are grantwriters among us or those willing to get the training to write grants. and on and on ya know.
