Another reason to ban Hip Hop.....It creates gun violence.
I just wanted to be the first to say it before all those other idiots do.

I don't know all the details around the case but of course the public will blame a lot of things on hip-hop when ya got guys like Cam'ron going on 60 minutes and saying dumb shit like " I wouldn't even tell the police if I knew a serial killer was living next door." The smart artist are the ones who should be speaking to the public like Common, Russell Simmons, Mos Def, ect. Not guys like Snoop & Cam.

The worst enemy to this kind of stuff is the media. Sure this stuff happend here and there but once they covered the VA Tech thing 24-7 for a week and released those videos theres been atleast one murder/suicide rampage every other day it seems.

I worked at that mall for 9 years, know a lot a people there, shits a trip, not surprising, just a trip thats all.
I in no way condone or take lightly what happened.
However............
It bugs me out when people are surprised or shocked by this sort of thing, we (humans) are so flawed and fragile of mind, we like to think that were all superior and evolved, but as a whole we are hanging on by a thread, or threads I should say, we each have a tipping point so to speak, its these "threads" that help us keep it together, the Job thread, the family thread, the religion thread, the love thread, the trust thread, the fear thread, and I cant forget the hope thread, which is neck and neck with the religion thread for a lot of us, hope or faith are the threads that keep us "sane" so that when all of the other threads are unraveling we keep it together, we keep on trudging through this man made world, some peoples faith or hope thread wears thin, eroded by the "evils" of this world, be it alcohol, drugs, betrayal, mommy and daddy didn't love me the way I needed to be loved, or just a "string" of unfortunate events and then it snaps like the sound of gunfire.

Man. I coulda sworn that it was some baldie named David who opened fire at Ward Pkwy.
But it was the media that shot those people? Well...I'll be...
- May 1, 2007 04:14am by Whatsgood
Wasn't the media who shot the people but they certainly have a way of celebrating what the shooter did. Tell me what good does covering a shooting 24-7? Anyone can clearly see that since the media has over covered the Va Tech thing its given all these other lunatics the idea to do the same sort of thing.

Certainly the media didn't pull the trigger, but news outlets always have a way of sensationalizing tragedies like this.
You have to at least wonder if they don't spark the trouble minds of some copy cat type who wants nothing more than that kind of recognition themselves.
I remember watching a news report on some guy who had stolen checks from a local high school (my old high school in fact) and washed the ink off of them.
Tell me why these fools gave an exact description of what products to use and how to inkwash a check?
I'm like... WTF? Ha ha...

Thats what I said when I kept flipping the channel seeing that dude on the television, and the dude from the radio. the media keeps saying his name and repeating the stories.
It sensationalism. Bill Maher's Last show said it perfectly.
Some sick teenager watched and watched, thinking, "He's dead, but look at the attention!"

If nobody was interested in the Ward Parkway shooting, it wouldn't have been all over the place...
But I was miles from a TV when it happened and it was ALL people were talking about at that Barack Obama event at the Uptown (that like 5 people came to, p.s.).
I don't see how the media are supposed to anticipate some kid thinking that shooting a bunch of people and then getting shot yourself is a cool thing. The normal reaction is that it's incredibly not cool. It's the mental health community's job to take care of nutjobs like that dude David -- but he was released from a looney bin in, what, half an hour? It's the media's job to answer the questions that come to mind when a person flips out and innocent people are killed...why is that so wrong? And if you haven't noticed, there ain't a whole lot else going on in this haystack. When someone opens fire at Ward Parkway, it's kind of a big deal.
I don't know, maybe I didn't get overloaded on the Ward Parkway story because I STOPPED WATCHING TV after I'd heard all I needed to know. It was a beautiful day outside!
Blaming the media has gotten so OLD, doesn't it sound stupid coming out of your mouth? Don't you just want to hit yourself after you type it? Hahaha.

Nadia makes a very important point in that YOU control YOUR TV.
so you can and should control how much information you want/need to take in before you say enough.
I will name several instances where WE the people became obsessed with something that happened and then blamed the MEDIA for over saturation:
John Lennon
OJ
9-11
Princess Diana (worldwide hysteria)
BTK
AND most recently
Virginia Tech
if you turn it off then you are not only cutting down on the hype, but also sensibly protecting your psyche from repeated bombardment to events that cause depression and feelings of being overwhelmed.
remember YOU HAVE THE POWER
question is WILL YOU USE IT!

If only it were that Easy NRG. See I wanted to watch the news for other news the networks would either cover the Va Tech thing 24-7 or theyd cover a story and go back to the Va Tech thing. Heck even I NFL Network when I was watching about the draft they'd talk about the Va Tech thing. 9-11 was covered on every station even ESPN. Its talked about everywhere as well so i'd say getting away from it is very hard to do.
If watching TV helps a person decide who they like for a presidential canidate why can't it encoruage a wacko to do something horrible?

I think the volume of media coverage is a factor at least.
I won't blame Fox 4 for the Ward Parkway incident, but to pretend that the media can wash it's hands completely is a bit much for me.
Journalists who sensationalized the "East Coast, West Coast" beef are now apologizing for having trumped up that situation.
Blaming media is a bit overdone at times, but sometimes it's both necessary and merited.

Are they going to report on the stabbing that happened at Sunfresh Yesterday? the "Westport Brawl"
- May 1, 2007 08:15pm by nadia
Making up some imaginary rap beef is a lot different than covering a shooting. People wanted to know whether Ward Parkway shopping center was safe or not. Then they needed to know when it was open for regular business again. Then they were curious to know who the hell opened fire on people. Then they needed to know who was dead -- I know I did, because I have a friend who worked security there. These are questions that needed answering. If you're not curious, stop watching. Go look something up on YouTube -- that's why it was invented, because regular TV programming can't possibly please everyone all the time.
Whatsgood, who the fuck forced you to watch the twin towers explode over and over? Turn the shit off. Personally, I was glued to the TV on 9-11, and at the time, my TV was a projector that projected the image on my wall, like 10 by 10. Which is great for watching the Godfather but not so great when it feels like all of America is blowing up. But I don't think I'm scarred for life. I mean, we as a nation were scarred from that event, but that was the terrorists' fault, not CNN's!
The "volume" of what's being covered on the news may not always appeal to you, just like the subject matter might not. I didn't give a rats about dead-ass Anna Nicole Smith after the day it happened, but Entertainment Tonight is still covering it like it happened yesterday. So I change the channel. Because otherwise, who knows, I might wake up and really really want to become a blonde bombshell retard, posing for Playboy and then overdosing on some injections shot into my ass. Oops, I guess I did watch a lot of that coverage...
I agree that TV news is ridiculous. But I stop short of blaming news coverage for influencing tragic events. A person can blame whoever they want to blame if they flip out tomorrow and detonate a bomb in the middle of Abercrombie and Fitch. But in the end, who is really to blame except the person who did it? Personal responsibility, come on.
If we were all taking better care of each other and all the freaky people around us, perhaps people could find comfort in each other before they go on bat-shit murderous rampages.
So stop blaming the media and go out and give the first quiet, brooding person you see with weird facial hair a big, fat hug.
hahaha
And thank you all for tolerating my long, raving posts.

Yea I saw that shit on the 6'O clock news. I usually park there when I go to Westport. Didn't someone shoot a gun down there on Saturday too?
Nadia there was no way to get away from 9-11 dear I certianly wasn't glued to the TV but even 6 years later then still show the planes crashing into the towers every know and then. If you are American 9-11 is all around you America is so affraid and paranoid of incidents ot 9-11 & Va Tech shootings I suppose its a way for the government to have better control of its people. Its very hard to watch the news and not be reminded of one of those events.

While good people do get bad ideas, a lil sumthin called common sense comes into play and USUALLY stop sthem from making a major mistake. While we have all in some point & time made mistakes by not using proper judgement or ignoring common sense, the fact is. I cant throw on Eminem or Tupac or any other type of media outlet to justify my actions. Y? Becuase before you committed any wrong, before you listen to Em or Pac, the intent was already there. While I do believe that the media can create or stir emotions, i dont believe it can create criminals. This cat had a thirst for distruction & whether it was do to mental problems/frustration/whatever, he didnt react off impulse. The evil notion was already there, he just needed a justifiable factor to come along and set it off.

Sunday afternoon just passed, I took a looksee down to Roanoke community center for Zebbadee's record swap and buy it was pretty busy.
there were lots of vendors with mostly folk/rock /and such there.
then today I cruised over to the pitch and click on hiphop just for fun and what I saw was lots of djs are spinning all over the city. some I've never heard of and needless to seen.
so I would right now the djs have it. so here's my offer,During CELEBRATE HIPHOP WEEK 'S GRILLIN AND CHILLIN Saturday May 12th AND THE FINALE`Saturday May 19th, I will clear my massage room or line the drive, or the front yard with tables so that if dj's wanna swap and sale vinyl during them, there will be a space available.
just let me know if you're bringing vinyl at [email protected]

Blaming the media for this incident is silly and I've said as much.
I almost never watch the news so what is or isn't being covered is really of no consequence to me. I know, though, that there are people who do watch. And people who do get ideas based on how certain things are sensationalized. That said, personal responsibility will ALWAYS trump anything done by an outside party. At least in my book...
I just think it begs a little consideration on the part of the media.
That's all.
Just think about how coverage is being dispensed and what, exactly, is being covered.
The media is comprised of human beings who are just as fallible as those who consume it. So they make mistakes too...

for me, its just nice to know I have the final say about what I watch. this way if they are being human and making the error of over saturation, I don't have to go along with it. 2 wrongs don't make it right ya know

The media has an agenda, to inform. Its through what they cover & how they cover it, as you mentioned, thats tweaks our interest & can subconsciously flare our emotions. The news outlet knows this. So with that being said I dont know how much of their explicit exposure to the public can be labeled a mistake. Though too much TV in general can become overwhelming. Personal accountability alwayz reigns supreme...
but the playoff's are an obligation 🙂
