First Round (23rd Overall): WR - Dwayne Bowe - LSU [img:755a6d6e9f]http://images.nfl.com/images/draft/2007/mugs/bowe_dwayne.jpg[/img:755a6d6e9f] [quote:755a6d6e9f]Strengths: Has very good size with a solid frame and a vast wingspan...Excellent leaper with good body control and ball skills...Great natural athlete...Has big, strong hands...A long-strider who plays faster than he times...Is an excellent blocker...Physical and runs pretty well after the catch...Tough and is not afraid of contact...A force in the red zone who has made a lot of big plays during his career...A leader with solid intangibles...He has only touched the tip of the iceberg in terms of his potential. Weaknesses: Timed speed is only average at best and he is not overly quick...Has had a lot of trouble with dropped balls...Is still raw and relatively new to the game...Let's the ball get into his body too often...Needs to become a better route runner...Won't stretch the field, struggles to separate and he isn't a big play threat...Is not there yet when it comes to identifying coverages...Needs to show better concentration.[/quote:755a6d6e9f] Second Round (54th Overall): DE - Turk McBride - Tennessee [img:755a6d6e9f]http://images.nfl.com/images/draft/2007/mugs/mcbride_turk.jpg[/img:755a6d6e9f] [quote:755a6d6e9f]Strengths: Has a decent frame and could still add some bulk...Is very quick off the snap...Has an excellent motor...Mobile with good range...Gets good penetration...Strong and powerful...A very good athlete...Does a tremendous job in pursuit...Superb initial punch...Versatile and can play many roles in a number of schemes....A big upside. Weaknesses: 'Tweener who is undersized in the middle and not fast enough for the outside...Is still raw and does not have a lot of starting experience...Has trouble disengaging from blocks...Is not a great natural pass rusher or sack artist...Is not stout at the point and will get pushed back...Lacks elite timed speed and a burst...Durability?[/quote:755a6d6e9f] Third Round (82nd Overall): DT - DeMarcus 'Tank' Tyler - North Carolina State [img:755a6d6e9f]http://images.nfl.com/images/draft/2007/mugs/tyler_demarcus.jpg[/img:755a6d6e9f] [quote:755a6d6e9f]Strengths: Three-year starter with a lot of experience...Has excellent size...A good athlete with great quickness...Very strong and powerful...Is stout at the point of attack and can hold his ground...Will deliver a blow and drive blockers backward...Able to penetrate and disrupt the action in the backfield...Pursues and chases when he's not tired...Disengages from blocks well...Still improving & had his best year in '06. Weaknesses: Tends to get out of shape and stamina has been a problem...Does not have very good timed speed and lacks a burst to close...Needs to play with more consistent leverage and keep his pad level down...Needs to use his hands better...Only an average pass rusher...Work ethic, intelligence and intangibles are questionable.[/quote:755a6d6e9f]

Fifth Round (148th Overall): RB - Kolby Smith - Louisville [img:0c0dbc6cf8]http://images.nfl.com/images/draft/2007/mugs/smith_kolby.jpg[/img:0c0dbc6cf8] [quote:0c0dbc6cf8]Strengths: Excellent athlete with great balance and agility...Has very good size and a solid frame...Has nimble feet and changes direction well...Outstanding receiver out of the backfield...A good blocker...Plays faster than he times and is elusive...Tough, physical and runs hard...Has a burst through the hole...Relatively productive and made the most of his limited opportunities...Versatile...He still has a lot of upside. Weaknesses: Timed speed is only average and he won't really run away from anyone...He has never carried the load in college...Battled through a number of minor injuries and durability is a major concern...Needs to run with a lower pad level...Underachiever who has never been the player his physical tools would lead you to believe he is.[/quote:0c0dbc6cf8] Fifth Round (160th Overall): K - Justin Medlock - UCLA [img:0c0dbc6cf8]http://images.nfl.com/images/draft/2007/mugs/medlock_justin.jpg[/img:0c0dbc6cf8] [quote:0c0dbc6cf8]Strengths: Has more than enough leg...Range well beyond 50 yards...Better on kickoffs than he is given credit for...Has a lot of experience and was quite productive....He did everything right since the end of his college career, performing well in the East / West Shrine game and even winning the kicking portion of the All-Star Challenge. Weaknesses: Not as consistent as you'd prefer...Has choked in pressure situations...There are a few mechanical and technique issues that will have to be ironed out...Has some character concerns and serious off-the-field troubles that need to be looked into. [/quote:0c0dbc6cf8] Sixth Round (196th Overall): OT - Herbert Taylor - Texas Christian [img:0c0dbc6cf8]http://images.nfl.com/images/draft/2007/mugs/taylor_herbert.jpg[/img:0c0dbc6cf8] [quote:0c0dbc6cf8]Strengths: Very good athlete...Quick with nimble feet...Good strength and puts in his time in the weight room...Smart with excellent awareness...Very aggressive...Plays with terrific pad level and leverage...A hard worker and leader with great intangibles. Weaknesses: Undersized and doesn't have either the ideal height or bulk that you look for...He is not real powerful or explosive...Is not overly stout at the point...Is not a fit for every team...Lacks a killer instinct...'Tweener who might have to switch positions. [/quote:0c0dbc6cf8] Seventh Round (231st Overall): TE - Michael Allan - Whitworth [img:0c0dbc6cf8]http://images.nfl.com/images/draft/2007/mugs/allan_michael.jpg[/img:0c0dbc6cf8] [quote:0c0dbc6cf8]Strengths: Has excellent size and a big frame that he can still bulk up further...Good athlete with better than average timed speed...Was extremely productive...Leaper with good ball skills...Seems to know how to get open and use his body...Will operate in traffic...Exceptional hands...Runs well after the catch...Still has some potential. Weaknesses: Going from Division III to the NFL will be a quantum leap in competition...Does not run great routes...Doesn't perform up to his workout numbers...Plays too high, is somewhat lumbering and doesn't cut or change directions well...He is sub par as a blocker...Not very quick...May still be a long way from being able to contribute.[/quote:0c0dbc6cf8]

i don't know how i feel about ever drafting a WR first round unless you are absolutely CERTAIN you're talking about a superstar. but then again i don't know who was available in free agency or anything and we all know that position is a need. i might have gone for Joe Staley instead, though. i wonder if the Turk McBride decision was a little scrambled considering they probably thought Eric Wright might still be on the board until Cleveland snatched him the pick before. i'd like to see us get bowling ball Nasti Nate Ilaoa at FB but that's just because i'm partial to polynesians (and because that dude's a damn bowling ball, for real... huge, but with speed and agility) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JMq0FLpb9I with JaMarcus Russell and Jay Cutler in the AFC West, we're going to need some cornerbacks. because they'll be going long. speaking of both QBs and Hawai'i, rapist QB Colt Brennan might make a good fit for the chiefs next year, but that's just a passing thought.

At first I was disappointed we didn't move up a little to get Quinn but I'm very happy with our pick. Dwayne Bowe is that dude! The next Anquain Boldin type. Tyler was a nice pick in the third round and the other dude meh usually our 2nd round picks aren't good anyway lol. We need someone offensive line help still other than that we're ready.

[quote:e2987c7b66="phism"]i don't know how i feel about ever drafting a WR first round unless you are absolutely CERTAIN you're talking about a superstar.[/quote:e2987c7b66] Bowe's a big, physical Wide Receiver who will immediately upgrade that position on this football team. It puts Samie Parker in his rightful place in the slot as our #3. Bowe blocks well downfield, isn't afraid of going over the middle, plays faster than he is timed and has excellent ball skills. That guy can go up and take it away from you. He's a Michael Irvin type receiver. One of the safest picks in the First Round I think. [quote:e2987c7b66]i might have gone for Joe Staley instead, though.[/quote:e2987c7b66] Staley was on the wishlist of lots of people around Chiefs kingdom. I was a bit skeptical. Here you have a guy who was considered to be a 3rd Round pick up until his workouts at the combine. I just don't see how you go from being a 3rd Round pick to a First Round pick without having played any more football... He jumped two rounds in the collegiate off-season. All on workouts. [quote:e2987c7b66]i wonder if the Turk McBride decision was a little scrambled considering they probably thought Eric Wright might still be on the board until Cleveland snatched him the pick before.[/quote:e2987c7b66] I honestly think it was. They held a press conference after their #1 went to Dwayne Bowe and I said in jest that they should probably be focused on where they're going to go with their #2. That obviously was a lot more prophetic than I gave myself credit for. They fell flat with this pick, but... He's a high-motor guy and a hard-worker. We'll see how this pans out. [quote:e2987c7b66]i'd like to see us get bowling ball Nasti Nate Ilaoa at FB but that's just because i'm partial to polynesians (and because that dude's a damn bowling ball, for real... huge, but with speed and agility)[/quote:e2987c7b66] I wouldn't mind seeing us take a FB in the middle rounds. Day 2 is where the Chiefs thrive. They find gems in these rounds. Hopefully we can get that deal to move Trent Green done today and move back into the 4th Round. I wouldn't mind seeing them take a kid like Doug Free (OT)... 6'7 318...With good feet. [quote:e2987c7b66]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JMq0FLpb9I with JaMarcus Russell and Jay Cutler in the AFC West, we're going to need some cornerbacks. because they'll be going long.[/quote:e2987c7b66] We could make a run at David Irons or Tanard Jackson if we can get a 4th in exchange for either Wesley or Green. I'd prefer Jackson though. He's perfectly suited for our Cover 2 scheme.

This has me a little concerned. [b:f763ca703e]Hard for Carl to let Green go [/b:f763ca703e] You never know exactly what to believe when there are negotiations spinning. But on Friday afternoon, just a few hours before the start of today’s NFL draft, Chiefs president/CEO/general manager/Elton John fan Carl Peterson did not sound at all like a man about to trade quarterback Trent Green. “If the season started tomorrow, Trent Green would be our starting quarterback,” Peterson said. “It’s that simple. He is the Kansas City Chiefs’ starting quarterback. And I’ll tell you this: If Trent Green is still with us in training camp — and I’m telling you that’s a real possibility — I am very confident he would win the job.” Now, there could be any number of reasons why Peterson would say this. The obvious one is this: He might be trying to bluff a team into giving up more for Green. Everyone knows that about seven weeks ago, the Chiefs announced they would let Trent Green shop himself around. The Chiefs had re-signed quarterback Damon Huard, they had professed their love for young quarterback Brodie Croyle, and it seemed obvious that there was no place for Green on the team. The only respectful thing to do was to let Green find a deal. Trouble is, over those seven weeks the offers for Green have been either: 1. Nonexistent. 2. Embarrassingly low. “I’ve read about different deals that supposedly have been bandied about,” Peterson said. “They don’t know. They don’t know what I’ve been asking. What I’m asking is for fair value. And they don’t know what I’ve been offered.” Maybe not. But whatever Peterson has been offered has obviously been pretty pitiful, because the draft is about to begin and Trent Green is still showing up at Arrowhead Stadium every week for quarterback meetings. So it could be that Peterson — by saying he is perfectly willing to go into next season with Green as his starting quarterback — is just trying to flush out the buyers and get them to make legitimate offers. “I feel absolutely certain that if Trent Green goes to Miami, for instance, he would be their starting quarterback,” Peterson said. “Now you tell me, what’s a starting quarterback worth in the NFL? A lot.” So, yes, it could be posturing. But you know what? It could be something else. Peterson talked an awful lot about Trent Green on Friday, and there was real emotion in his voice. It could be that, deep down, Carl Peterson does not want to let Trent Green go. “Trent Green is a marvelous person,” Peterson said. “It’s amazing: He does the right thing all the time. He’s a stand-up guy. He takes the blame when we lose, even if it isn’t his fault. He passes around the credit when we win. We’re talking about a leader here.” He went on and on like this for a while until finally I had to ask the question. “Carl, if you think so much of Trent Green — if you believe he’s the best quarterback you have — then why are you trading him in the first place?” He paused for a minute. And then he said this very slowly: “There you are talking about my head coach,” he said. And there you have it. “Herm (Edwards) would like for us to see what kind of quarterback Brodie Croyle can be,” he continued. “And he wants to see that sooner rather than later. I’m not disagreeing with that at all. He wants to get younger. He wants a fresh start. Trent understands this, too. We talk every week.” See, I think there’s something going on here: Carl Peterson is watching the fun and heartbreaking team he built with Dick Vermeil fade away. Priest Holmes disappeared. Willie Roaf and Will Shields retired. Tony Richardson signed elsewhere. Larry Johnson wants big, big money. Just this week, Peterson traded Dante Hall, the X-Factor, who brought so many thrills to Kansas City but seemed to age before our very eyes last season. No you can’t hold together a football team forever — especially a football team that ultimately failed. Still, it has to be tough to watch the best offense in the NFL fall apart. “I’m going to tell you this right now, and you can put it in big letters,” Peterson said. “I’m not going to give away Trent Green. That’s not fair to the Kansas City Chiefs, to ownership here or to us as a football team. I won’t do it. I know what people are saying. It will be interesting to hear what they say if Trent is still with us after the draft.” With that, he talked a bit about the draft. Peterson didn’t give anything away — they will take the best available athlete, look to be active, the usual stuff — except to say that he loves Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn. It looks as if Quinn will probably go top-10 now, maybe top-five, but for a while some draft mavens were saying he could drop all the way to the third or fourth round. “That won’t happen,” Peterson said. “He will go early. But I’ll tell you this: I love Brady Quinn. If he is somehow available with the 23rd pick, he will be a Kansas City Chief … I don’t care how many quarterbacks we have.” To reach Joe Posnanski, call (816) 234-4361 or send e-mail to [email protected]. they need to get a young QB. Damon Huard signed for big bucks, but he's 34. and Trent Green is all but on his way to the Dolphins, who are idiots i think for passing on Quinn in the 9th slot. and they need help on the DL now that Jared Allen got suspended for 4 games for repeated substance abuse policy offenses.

As for the D-line I'd imagine Mcbride & Wilkerson may rotate at that position or even Eric Hicks. Sure Hicks isn't that good but he does bring leadership and is good aginst the run. I think our defensive tackle situation is pretty good so no matter who we have filling in for JA they should do a decent job.

i'm pretty certain no one else here cares about this, but i'm gonna be watching miami this year because they picked up 3 polynesians, and philadelphia because they picked up that FB Nate Ilaoa that i really liked... and who i wish the chiefs should have picked up instead of one of those other last few picks, but who knows if he was on their radar... i have become interested in the University of Hawai'i for such reasons and they had more players drafted this year than in any previous year since the draft had been cut to 7 rounds... whenever college football starts i might try to follow them, it's fun to watch them play, if only because of the hair.... http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2007/Apr/29/br/br5106834927.html there's another dude from arizona state that i'll be looking to see if he gets drafted next year. the draft the past couple years has made me start to get interested in college ball for the first time. p.s. this guy's name is like mine: http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2007/ahyou_cj ... he's probably chinese-samoan too i assume.

[quote:42fd865354]Colt Brennan from Hawaii is suppose to be real good.[/quote:42fd865354] yeah, but... "Quarterback Colt Brennan of Saddleback Community College was informed on Tuesday that Syracuse University will not offer him a scholarship because of a conviction last September on second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and unlawful sexual contact charges. The incident that led to his arrest happened on Jan. 28, 2004, at the University of Colorado in which Brennan allegedly barged into the dorm room of a female student, fondled the student and exposed himself." so i'd rather not give him a million dollars and make him anyone's idol. prototypical egotistical jock, probably. His scouting report was actually very promising. This guy could be pretty good. Teams need to stop overlooking the small schools. Some of those players have a lot of upside. The Chiefs know... They got Jared Allen from a small school.
  16. Apr 30, 2007 10:34pm by Whatsgood
Thing is this guy wasn't a good blocker at the school he played with so if ya can't block at that level I don't know how he'll be able to do it at the NFL level. Another thing Jarred Allen was from a small school and I always wondered why he didn't play at a big school but know we know its because of his off the field issues. With that being said I think this tight end can be a good recieving threat and he'll make the team thats more than enough for a 7th rounder imo. BTW Tonight at 7:00 they're going over the draft on 101 KCFX.

That's the thing though. He's not a blocking TE by nature. He's a pass-catcher. Certainly I think he could become a bigger asset in the blocking game, but ultimately they want this guy snagging balls...

i just read that Turk McBride is from Camden, NJ. so if he has trouble tackling, at least he'll be shankin niggas. i was a little surprised at that pick because i had never heard of him, but it sounds like they could have some nice defensive tricks up their sleeves since he can play DT and DE. edit: i also just watched some video, and the dude doesn't fall down. he's like one of those inflatable things.

I bet the Bucs think they can make something of him. Our defensive line coaching over the past 3-5 years has been awful.
