Im still baffeled as to why the school was not locked down as result of the first shootings a whole 2 hours prior!
The real tragedy lies in the fact that this could have easily been prevented...cliche

you gotta realize the Virginia Tech campus is 2,600 acres. you can't lock down that much space in 2 days let alone 2 hours.

True as that maybe, i cant really say that excuses them from doing nothing more than sending random emails to select individuals. The outcome may have been less tragic if more effort towards prevention was put in place
but thats pretty much a lost case @ this point......

Yes all very sad.. respect to them all.
regarding the media's aftermath.. all I ask is that they dont brand it too hard as a selling point. And to the "The Views" of the world, dont act like you know the whole story and can criticize what should have been done. Rosie even said "someone should have pulled afire alarm" suggesting that would have "locked down" the school and or building...?
We can criticize it forever, but a lot of these concepts of "locking down" and such are more terms than actions actually possible with a University policing staff.
We dont know the campus.

My friends and I were talking about how the media like to jump on every new story and smother it with attention. There is no time to heal.
If I had been personally affected by this recent tragedy, I would be like shut up already with the silent video feed.
We also talked about the failures that led to this. We had questions and opinions of what they could've been. [/color:f9c8fff4c2]
**on a note. Notice how the media keeps saying Cho Seung-Hui is an immigrant from South Korea over and over? What do you think thats going to promote?
We wondered if this would over shadow other important issues.
Is America going to put a bandaide, on this (gash that needs stitches, proper attention, and care) of the RACE issue on the back-burner?
Did Cho Seung-Hui get pissed fed up with the way that Asian people are depicted in Hollywood?
Like the dude on the Asian Girl and Guy in the last Sopranos episode.
Then we started talking about boycotting the Sopranos for promoting Hate, Misogyny, Violence, Extreme Racism, Extreme Homophobia and Extreme Stereotypes. Yeah right. Like I dont want to see the end of the Sopranos. Stop watching? how hard would that be?
I remember being in conversations with people who loved the whole way that dude got murdered for being gay.
The show obviously huge following. (alot of them are the type that love the "dude" off the radio).
Do the Sopranos have the right to say what they want because they are making a statement against these issues? Or Do they perpetuate the ignorance and hate.
We also started talking about how creepy it was that this is the same week, almost a decade ago it was the Columbine High School Massacre.
Nothing was learned. Nothing was learned? Nobody seen the signs. These crazy plays he was writing. Stalking women?
just a couple thoughts we had.
We also wondered if those black people issues would just go away now. jk.. There are all types of gatherings, all across the nation, to help kids understand what happened. It is also set up to help them feel safe at school. I suggest the same should have been done what happened with the Rutgers girls.
Classes should have been set up in schools. Local town hall meetings. Leaders in cities, taking advantage of this to get communities together to talk about these issues. It only takes a radio spot.
any way

Amen on the media smothering the story they really do. 154 people dead in a bomb attack in Iraq it'll get little mention in Americas garbage media. Another fucked up thing seems like the shooter always gets more attention than the actual vicitims they don't need to cover this story 24-7. I don't think this had anything to do with race it's all about one sick sick person. In his note he supposedly talked about rich people & Christians which it seems acceptable today in America to dislike both. If you are conisdered a good Christian you're some right-wing lunatic and if you're rich fuck you we don't care about you. So I can honestly say discrimination in America runs much deeper than race, religion & social status are also discriminated on.

I feel you on this one Ace. I teach Pre-K/K and I was talking to a parent about this school shooting. The parent of whom I was talking to had said "the government has a "system" for watching terrorist, why don't they have a system for watching disturbed individuals"

It's really pointless to try and scotch-tape a rational motive on a lunatic. He was mad about the Sopranos? Are you fucking kidding me? He did it because he was a fucked up individual. Trying to pretend like he had a logical reason for doing an unspeakable thing is like trying to figure out why Hurricane Katrina targeted the 9th Ward. I really believe that sometimes people flip out the same way that there are natural disasters: the random ingredients come together at a certain place and time and really unexplainable, terrible shit happens. What scares me is how we react to these things afterwards. Like, a governmental tracking device on disturbed individuals? Great idea. Sorry Nest, but I don't think some big watchful eye on people who have not committed crimes is the answer here. Just like how censorship isn't the answer to prevent future Don Imuses and Michael Richardses.
A professor of mine at Loyola once talked about his idea of gun control: issue a gun to every single man, woman and child. Except, it's not a handgun, an assault rifle, or an automatic: it's a big-ass hunting rifle. The kind that takes a while to load and is completely impossible to conceal. And then we all carry them around, all the time. So that there's no question that every single person is totally strapped. Not so that we can all shoot each other, but so there's kind of a Mutually Assured Destruction. This idea is completely impractical, but it always made me laugh, which is better than nothing.
Because gun rights weren't created in the constitution so that we can all have the ability to be like, "Make my day, bitch," to our neighbors. Gun rights were created so that if the government ever goes batty and tries to take your land away from you, you can fight back and uphold the constitution. Which, incidentally, also protects the right of guys like Don Imus to say whatever stupid bigoted shit they want, as inconvenient as it can be for the rest of us. But, you know, America the beautiful.
Geez, okay, I'll get off my soapbox now.

Va Tech did watch him and recommend he seek help but they couldn't force him to do anything in fear of a lawsuit. Just shows ya how America is these days.

I just happened to walk into the Westport Liqour store yesterday. Got to see this huge Lady telling Connie (the owner, whom is from Korea) she needed to go back where she came from. Go back to her country. Connie told her, "not to go there with her!" It was an obvious heated situation.
"It has begun"
And We didn't seriously think that the Sopranos caused a this. the dialog just came up when we were watching a repeat. I just noticed the Asian guy get dissed, on that episode. I thought maybe that set him off.
How about a moment of silence for the 172 people killed in Baghdad.
The This Modern World strip in the Pitch this week is perfect.
