Yeah so I'm at work right now - and I'm bored. I got to thinkin' about some things though (so I guess it's not really time wasted). Anyway - what I was thinkin' about was how this lady at my job said her sun is in the Christian music ministry. She said he's really good, and should go for it. He's comitted to the ministry and all - and does the music for the love I suppose - but she really, genuinely feels that he can make it and wants him to go to Tennessee (where Christian music is BIG) and at least try; she's even willing to fund him. Her little story made me think of how many people there are out there who really are just damn good - but they don't apply themselves to that skill, or they aren't interested because of different priorities. It also made me muddle over how many cats that aren't "damn good" go for it. What's that all about? Has anyone on here ever been - or known someone - who was damn good at something and just passed? What was it? Did they ever at least try it - if they did, what got them into it? My overall quesiton was pertains motivation/ drive I guess. I hear it about everything too. In hiphop, cats are always like - "Yo music has gotten stale," that's cuz most of the really good cats either aren't interested or they once were but weren't nurtured and brought out to people. That's the same story for cats that join fraternities and some that don't (seriously, you don't know how many times I've heard - "blah blah blah could use more bruhs like you" - but I'm not interested... So what's the deal hiphopKC? Is the issue that we as people just don't go about nurturing and supporting "the damn good folks" the right way? Or is it a simple case of they're just not interested? What would you do to motivate yourself to get back into sun'n? I question a lot of things like this - mainly at times when I'm goin' through similar situations or kjnow someone who's goin' through it - So I'll consider any thoughtful comments to this lil' post advice, and appreciate it much. Peace.

I think when you have a genuine passion for something, you can easily be deterred when something jeopardizes that passion. Would you want to change your identity as an artist to make it mainstream?

Na Ace - neva' that (unless somehow bound by a contractual agreement of course - which would suck).

I think there is a middleground between what your questions are presenting. your questions feels alongs the lines of if you don't make a go of your talent, then you lack motivation and drive. things are never that simple talysman I think you know that. just like making it as an artist is not just about being really good either. first off good a kinda each his own taste thing and second, a lot goes into being successful like marketing, business practices, communicating, making sure erbody knows no matter what job mission calling you wade into. so I feel where you going, but the road feels to narrow to really navigate. needs a wider base to really explore this subject in my opinion
