Topic: If you are serious about wax pressing
- Mar 27, 2007 04:42pm by DjShad
I was checking into prices for wax i found one of the cheapest sites that is quality. I have some wax that was pressed and its good quality. I don't recommend it unless you have a g to spend for promo budget. Mp3 is better ebcause you can test the response and decide if you want to do it

I've engineered a number of projects pressed through United and cannot more emphatically state this: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH UNITED RECORD PRESSING.
I've had them refuse to press projects after sending them plates, receiving tests, and paying them a shit ton of cash, due to their RIAA review policies. Notice:

About 4 years ago they were raided by local police and RIAA officials who demanded they shut down the plant, print laquers and review every stamper that they had in storage. Some of the these had samples, so the RIAA threatened to sue them into bankruptcy, unless they play ball.
So now, and only at URP, every project is reviewed by people who were once front desk secretaries (I've spoken with them, I got this full story from the head of their material review team) and if they come across material that even sounds as if it's a sample, they'll halt the project and demand clearance documents. If you go for one of their package deals (sleeve printing + pressing), they'll even demand the same for visual artwork. I was told of a cancelled sleeve printing project where a photo of George W Bush with black x's placed over his face. They refused to print this job, a job that clearly falls under the Fair Use statute of copyright law.

[quote:624f9859d5]The RIAA is also trumpeting its $200,000 settlement of infringement claims against Nashville's United Record Pressing, one of the few vinyl plants still operating in America. (If you bought an indie-label seven-inch single in the '90s, it was very likely pressed there.) It seems that they were hired to press some records that turned out to include unlicensed content ("more than 170 unauthorized sound recordings"). Everything that customers send to United is now "audio tested," and no samples of any kind are permitted. Fair use? The public domain? Out of the question.[/quote:624f9859d5]
Obviously, all of this results in delays, cost overruns, and all around fuckin bully tactics, mostly because they've been scared shitless by the RIAA's lawyers.
No other vinyl plant in the world has this kind of review policy. All other vinyl plants will be happy to produce your art as you intended it. Here's a short list of other vinyl plants I've worked with and have had great turn around and service with:
