Topic: Education and Successful Musicians

Hey yo - I just thought of something. How many popular artists didn't finish highschool? I was listenin' to T.I. and I noticed he mentioned that he didn't finish school. Joining him on this list asre the likes of Eminem and Busta Rhymes I think. Who else didn't finish completing their education in the chase of fame or whatever else and made it? I used to think of that in high school back when I gave my musice like 75% of my time. I thought- man I'm doin' this all wrong. Everyone who I looked up to seemed to be a highschool dropout. Who else famous went the drop out route?
I know a lot of artist went the college route like I'm doin' right now as well. Alicia Keys, Fugees, Talib Kweli - and so on. There's the hope you know. But what I want to know is does a person realistically stand more of a chance goin' route one (droppin' out and dedicatin' all their time to rhymin') or route two (stayin' somewhat in touch with music, getting a degree, and then seeking out their career in music)?

That's a good question Talysman. The bottom line is you have to be honest with yourself. Weigh out the pros and cons... Obviously people can make it without formal educations, but on the other side of it, having a degree automatically gives you credibility. It shows employers that you have the determination to see something through to the end, and that you've taken the initiative(sp) to really jump in and learn about a given subject area, etc. Ask me again in about twenty years when I finally get these damn student loans paid off, then I might have a different answer for you. But for now, like I always say, do what YOU love.
