Topic: A bit old really..

So I see Nas is doing a tour of course I get excited but then I remember I live in Kansas City and we don't get much our way really. So I say screw it maybe he'll suprise me and there will be a tour date scheduled for KC. So I begin reading the list of dates theres one in St.Louis no KC but one in Denver. I'm getting tired of hearing about all these greats going on tour but never coming here. Does anyone have any idea why? I know Kansas City is known as a "violent" city but I'd point out East St.Louis isn't great and Denver certianly isn't with its problem with gangs and athletes getting shot ( I believe 3 in the past few years). Is it the venues? That won't be an excuse for much longer when the Sprint Center is completed in the fall. Anyway just thought i'd share my frustration with everyone.

I have a feeling it's more related to money then any type of violent activity.

alot of people pass up this city because of lack of attendance for shows like that or promoters on bs. Where they are possibly having nas at is near wash u in stl which is a nice area and hella nice venue. East saint has nothing to do with it and east saint is not that violent anymore, we were there just a while back. Nas is going to guaranteed markets with guaranteed revenue promotiorts cant keep on taking hits in the pockets. Who knows he might pop through here, it depends on the itenery, kc is considered a secondary market. You have markets 1-20 which are primary then below that that are secondary kc is number 29

I meant St Louis and Denver can probably get more people in the doors and as a result of that the peformers get paid more.
Kansas City is growing fast, but is still pretty much small market compared to other major cities. Think of the other cities within an 8 or so hour drive.....Denver, STL, Chicago, Dallas, Minneapollis.
Money seems most logical

How is St.Louis a bigger market than Kansas CitY? Kansas City has more people population wise.

1) venues. we don't have anything mid-sized. just bars and sandstone/starlight. that's why a lot of things go to lawrence because of the granada and whatnot. we also don't have many stable venues that have been around long enough for touring acts to know about.
2) lawrence. see above. plus the college crowd that'll go to anything that sells alcohol.
3) reputation. either we don't have enough of one that anyone knows anything about us to come here, or it's a bad one (the aforementioned violence). i also don't think people in KC really attend shows in large enough numbenrs for anyone to want to come here. maybe as UMKC gets bigger this will subside but i don't think college kids should be the target demographic (but that gets into the all ages debate again)
what i don't understand is when they skip kc to go to like omaha, des moines, or other places that are within 4 or 5 hours but are much smaller.

BINGO!!!
I've said this many times before.
The last time Nas visited Kansas City roughly 600 people turned out, but due to the size of the venue (Uptown Theatre) it didn't look that way. That show was better suited for a smaller venue.

Concerts are much harder to sell nowadays.
Smaller venues are prime for most concerts.
The days of filling Kemper with 18,000 people are all but gone.
Nas has been here so I'm not shocked to see him play St. Louis.

When'd Nas come here? He'll prolly never be back either. Shit.

When Big Daddy Kane Came Here, he said it was one of the Illest shows on his tour. You know how that goes. But He promised me that he would let Nas know we wanted more. We was wondering about that back then. Everybody that comes here is always like' "DAMN! Kansas City is Live. Lauryn Hill, Ghostface, M-1, Dose One, O.D.B., Helter Skelter... No matter If you are at Verizon.....what I still call Sandstone, The Granada, Or Somewhere Downtown or A Bar on Troost. Every show, same thing. People sleepin on KC. It doesnt help at all the fact that the 12th richest county in the Nation is less than 20 minutes away from downtown. And 10 minutes south of that you got a courthouse doing whatever they can to make sure that, that sort of a thing never goes down. $$$$$ "My daughter is going where?....oh the hell she is!" No rap crap for you

i have heard that from various artists also but labels and promo people look at it from a soundscan/radio spin perspective also. Nas would sell out a show in stl becuase he has both the 100.3 the beat and the radio one station who have him in regular rotation and would be proud to have presents on the show. Its hard getting people here in kc because you have to deal with the soundscan which relates to the radio and download. many labels check this every week. You have venues who cater to hip hop performers and show them respect unlike some venues in the city. If you compare the pagent in stl to venuse here, its no competion

Am I wrong to say Kansas City likes igrnoant music anyway? I mean we always get people like lil scrappy ect. I'm sure many in KC would choice D4L over Nas no? Heck Kansas Citys favorite artist is Tech9ne and he isn't saying anything on records.

that's everywhere.
at least average KC thug rap heads pay attention to our own underground (tech n9ne, fat tone, ron ron, rich the factor) as much as the radio, unlike other cities.
