That dude is so full of crap...
He has no journalistic integrity whatsoever.
His antics over the years make for a humiliating rap sheet for a writer.
He's in no position to trash talk anybody or anything.

Mr. Whitlock's point of view aside for a moment. A friend of mine who was in Vegas on business at ASW informed me that it was absolute Chaos there. He had to work the Magic Fashion Trade Show. He informed me that the Hotels were a mess, people were very disrespectful and that the Gun Play and Violence the was brought in by certain ones was completely out of control.

What are you talking about?
Whitlock may be full of crap sometimes...ie you just don't agree with him...but he is a op-ed writer basically.
He IS in a position to talk trash becuase he get PAID A LOT OF MONEY to do so. PTI, Espn, AOL, The Star are all paying out the ass for him to talk trash. Thats what he does and thats why is pretty much one of the top sportswriters in the country right now. Sure this particular article may be a little bit outside his normal fare.
As far as the journalistic integrity comment goes...I have a degree in journalism and wrote for a couple years and disagree with you. Give me an example of how he totally lacks integrity....remember objectivity doesn't count here because this is editorial writing.

"Denial is the number on ENABLER"
This is absolute truth. you can apply this to every area of like and it's still the truth.
Time to speak, time to shine lite on the shadow, time to call it what it is
dangerous, terrorizing, out of control, irreverent, bullying, distrepectful
disregarding, seif absorbed, amazingly powerful ( but to what intent)
I also relate to the "I'm Tired" litiney(sp) of his article.
there's a low buzz of concern that I walk with everyday, and I am not afraid of dying. its more like an energy drain that's constant day in day out.
I'm tire of defending ever increasing disregard and self absorption of everyone including hiphop culture.

You might want to revisit your Whitlock FAQ sheet.
He was banned from ESPN.

I'll take a dozen other sportwriters over Whitlock.
His sports knowledge leaves alot to be desired.
He's been the lone champion of Jeff George finding work in the NFL despite a career mired in underachievement.

How about the 1998 incident where he taunted Patriot fans and composed a handwritten sign alleging that Drew Bledsoe (their signal caller at the time) was gay? How's that for integrity?
Whitlock is controversial. Controversy sells newspapers.
Several writers dwarf him in their understanding of sports.
The AOL piece was mostly incendiary, painfully one-sided and sounded like one of Bill Cosby's tirades.
The whole idea that the Black community needs to address crisis because SOME Whites look upon certain behaviors of a certain group of African-Americans with contempt is a SLAVE MENTALITY. Black folks have bigger fish to fry. Image is the last thing we should be concerned with.
He, of all people, is the last person to accuse Scoop Jackson of being "Bojangles".
I do not stand in opposition to decrying the evils that hinder progress in the African-American community, but the whole "bootstrap" ideology stinks out loud. It's myopic and elitist. I hate that crap.

Whitlock is a joke. He tried to run LJ & Jarred Allen out of town by writting stupid articles. I refuse to read anything written by that man its all hate.

how did he try to run LJ out of town? maybe back when vermiel told him to changes his diapers a couple years back (and all of LJ's tirades then were a little on the immature side), but he was the first person to publicly applaud him for vocalizing his frustration about the chiefs and their accepting of mediocrity last season. sounds like he stands beside the one guy the chiefs have to build a winning team around, but maybe i'm crazy.
and when the fuck did he get banned from espn? i've seen him on the sportswriters, pti, and espn news a number of times in the last few months.

i'm only going to comment on Joc's comments about what his friend mentioned about Vegas:
Vegas is the most scandalous place i've ever been to or lived in. i've had a handful of shows canceled this year already this year bc the week before someone shot up the venue.
whatever his boy saw during Magic probably wasn't even close to the tip of the iceberg for Vegas.
carry on....

Heh I was really disappointed with Whitlock he covers the NFL he should know running backs these days don't have much trade value. Look at what happend 2 seasons ago when the Colts tried to trade Edgerin James and the Seahawks tried to dump Shaun Alexander they both got offered very little. It's funny to me how Whitlock makes it seem like LJ is trying to be Jay-z and judging by the comment section of the column all the people are eating it up. LJ isn't trying to be Jay-z, Memphis Bleek is or was. Anyway I think it just shows you how ignorant and hateful Whitlock is.

Sometimes we have to look past the source of information, and just at the information itself. Jason made some valid points in both of his articles about NBA-ASW. Bottom-line: The new terror on the Black community is the Black communtiy. Since integration in the '60's, we (the Black community) have put ourselves on this path by disregarding what got us through 400+ years of oppression. Each other. Until I was 10 years old, "It takes a village to raise a child" was the mantra. Now, it's "Mind your own damn business!" And you can tell the difference in people raised within those mindsets.
We as a people have either lost or forgotten our way. And what's even sadder is, it seems we don't even care. I'm tired too.
p.s.

We definitely have a responsibility all our own in turning the tide in our respective communities. The only problem I have with the "bootstrap" ideology that both Whitlock and Cosby employ is the fact that it oversimplifies the problem entirely.
It takes no thought to the conditions that continue to foster a vicious cycle of self-destructive behavioral activity.
Whitlock himself ascribes to a slave mentality. That alone is every indication that a complex system of psychological entrapment has taken place from the time we touched ground.
Identify the problem. Identify your place within that problem... And fix it.
We're doing Black folk a disservice not to both understand and appreciate the conditions that IN MANY CASES create the very behaviors they (Whitlock/Cosby) find detestable.
Wanna hold us responsible for our actions? I'm fine with that, but at the same time I want to see the same investment into destroying the systems in play that facilitate destructive behaviors.
Yeah, I see my brothers and sisters cutting fool all the time and it's disheartening. And I hold those close to me accountable for their actions. We HAVE TO DO better. There simply is no way to argue with that fact, but I'll be damned if I won't also tell you that something is seriously wrong when legislation was enacted as recently as January 2006 to remove restrictive covenants that were...STILL ON THE BOOKS IN THIS TOWN.
Balance JW... Balance.
