Voodoo is such a crazy venue. The lights and sound are unreal. The lights alone were over $6 million dollars. Last time I saw them was at Abe & Jakes and the sound there is so terrible I couldn't even get into the music.

Wha wha whaaat? Oh nooooo. I can say right now that The Jumpoff will be canceled that night because I will be at Voodoo getting live. And I very much agree about Voodoo's craziness. I would probably say it's my favorite venue in KC, simply because of the lights, sound, and all around professional atmosphere. I remember when I was there opening weekend for Bad Boy Bill to pop the cherry, and they had lightening effects coming down from the ceiling....but I've been there a bunch of times since and have never seen them again...anyone else know about that? And on a side note, I heard that Club NV was also a hot spot....so I went to check it out, and I can honestly say that I think it is the cheeziest, most poorly done, wannabe club I have ever been to. You can't just throw some plasma tv's, shitty lights, and expensive drinks together and call it "posh" quality entertainment. They need to go to Voodoo and take notes on how things should be done in my opinion.

NV is a joke. VooDoo is the real deal. If you are gonna try to swing that over the top mega club shit, do it right.

A "must see" show. Voodoo's one of the nicest venues in town.

Hmm, I just thought of something. Does Voodoo retain the usual dress code for concerts like they do on the club nights? I mean, I can't imagine them turning me away with a prepaid ticket just because I have a hat on or I'm not wearing dress shoes or something. Anyone have any experience at shows there?

Thats completely and utterly unacceptable, I won't pay that much for a group who is so Pop Hop and washed up and they are coming alone. No local opening acts? Thats wack! [/color:e5636de9e5]Just kidding!! [/size:e5636de9e5] I seen the Legendary Roots Crew at the Granada in Lawernce, Ks. back in like '95. The show was mad hot. (I love telling this story 😉 ?love was outside, posted, was like you got a light? My Homie and I was like, "damn, kid got a mad afro, keeping it way real!" then we was playing pool with Wyclef and didn't even know it was him. The show Was way off the Chain. The Roots, Goodie Mob, and the Fugees. Way before they blew up. this was a show where Lauryn Hill was like, "Damn, white people thick in Kansas City!" Definitely one of the best Hip Hop shows in KC, Next To Big Daddy Kane, and Boot Camp Clik @ the Hurricane no less. and KRS-1 in Lawernce. That type of shit (Smokin' Grooves, Lalapallooza don't jumo off no more. 🙁 Lalapallooza '94 was where I met Chuck-D walking through the crowd. shit was so surreal. Beastie Boys, Parliment, Cypress Hill, Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes. i went to some shit with the Smashing Pumkins, L7, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Cypress Hill was always there. I remember I stopped giving a........what when Snoop came. Peace AF Question why does Hip Hop Tours skip KC? We show mad love, and faithfulness. Big Daddy Kane said KC was one of the illest shows, because of the love, so what gives? Biggest fan of MF Doom. He won't come here. Def Jux fan since Company Flow, and first show here was two weeks ago, unless you count Camao Tao or Dose One about three years ago. Aesop don't count....that show was whack! wtf? Show @ the Granada was $18.00 Big Daddy Kane was Les than that, as was B.C.C.

Dublow. I went to a reggae show there and they were pretty accepting, no seeming dress code. You should be good as long as you wear pants, not shorts, and just generally tasteful clothes. I've been turned away when it wasn't a show, and it was on some bullshit. My shoes, though not tennis shoes, were not dressy enough, and had laces like tennis shoes. It was some seriously maddening bullshit. Concert night was completely different. Just a pat down and show of ticket.

Lawrence has had a couple shootings after hip hop shows too. the guy from the Bomb Squad got killed too earlier last year, but i think that wasn't music or show related. A shooting or any altercation in KC is easier to spin though bc they happen more often than LK in general. the AP probably has a template they follow, and they just plug in the facts to the formula.

I can't imagine having to try and get live at a hip hop show in my oh so fresh dress clothes.
