ive been looking for apts in KC (mainly in JOCO though im not fond of the suburbs) and something strange is happening, im lookin' at this apartment rating sites, and there callin all these places that im thinkin' of movin into, in Johnson County, "ghetto" and "dangerous". i must be missing something here....when did JoCo get raw, or are these snooty JoCo citizens who have never been to a real hood. i mean, im talkin Prairie Village here....i read the something in Prairie Village was "dangerous".... someone give me this scoop. i currently work in Olathe, and i have been drivin' around and havent seen anything i consider hood in the least bit. help ya dude out. again, i dont wanna come off like a know it all, but in all my time in this part of the country, i have NEVER gotten the impression that anything in JoCo. was the least bit dangerous. maybe its my price range, im thinkin 525-650 a month, ima new father so..safety is important and what not. holla back.

That's do-able in Olathe. Jefferson Place, Terrace, Kings Court, Ridgeview, Virgina Lane and a few others that I can't think of are all in that range. Olathe is fairly cheap for apartments compared to northern joco. On the topic of dangerous and ghetto. Most towns have areas like that, some it might be a house here and there and others it might be condensed into a few blocks. I've been in many dangerous situations, some in the city, some in the burbs, danger is danger, but I found 99% of the danger was me. Olathe has over 100,000 people and not all of them are rich or even middle class. Just a side note, danger can be found anywhere if a person is looking for it.

Yeah, no. That is jaded JoCos talking. Ghetto may be a relative term, but dangerous is not. DM is correct in that danger can be anywhere, but I would in no way consider any part of JoCo dangerous. There are areas that may be less-than-average in terms of Average Johnson County Appearance, and there are dangerous people, but as a whole, Johnson County is not dangerous. Check around though, if you can look past all the lame amenities (tennis court, gym) that your typical Johnson County complex affords, you can find pretty cheap (relatively) shelter.

when i went to rockhurst some of the rich kids would call leawood the ghetto. it's ghetto relative to what they're used to. in retrospect, i should have choked them with cotton balls.

lol @ ghetto. I'm out in Overland Park i've had my car broken into & my cd player along with the cd's stolen. As far as dangerous? Not so much. I know recently a lot of government housing has been built in some areas and if you dress different people will label you "ghetto" which is pretty ignorant.

[quote:97f3cb5688="StikFiga"] only thing that bothers me about JoCo is the lack of color :([/quote:97f3cb5688] yeah that part was part of the plan from the beginning as well. thanks to jc nichols and his prototype of segregation and separation you can live is an almost white johnson county and still be less than 1/2 hour away from the stuff you still need like the opera, chiefs, royals, the plaza altho they creepin up on the plaza real fast these days with those malls every ten blocks. that's a good life of a kind not really hatin on it or them just hatin on the mindset that would want to create that lifestyle 🙄

stand corrected but it still says something about the idea of separateness and really the need to be with one's own kind.

Johnson County BITES! A bunch of small ass, expensive ass apartments. JOCO cops will pull you over in a heartbeat and keep you pulled over until the cows come home. F Johnson County! Move to Midtown. Cheaper rent, more room, more working class, more character and everything in town is 10-15 minutes away. I don't live in Midtown anymore. I do miss it and my neighbor is a BEEYOTCH! -Vrt

It's all relative I 'spose. Around Christmas time I had a conversation with a girl in Bath & Bodyworks about how "dangerous" Oak Park Mall had become. I about laughed my mom's gift out of my hand and onto the floor. Comedy. Where are you in JoCo Stik? My girl lives in Olathe. It's plenty "colored" where she is. You'd be surprised. Flight back to the urban core has JoCo looking a lot darker than it was, say, 10 years ago. Even then though... It's still a big disparity.

i had to write on this, kinda funny. i lived in olathe a few years ago, right across from the juvie center. The worst thing i had to deal with was my own "friends" stealing my clothes n cd's (if i ever find who jacked my green addidas hoody i'll kill ya). i also lived in prarie village for a little while, now that is dangerous, damn soccer moms driving suv's they cant even see over the dash, kids who drive 50 down small streets, cuz if they wreck it they just get another ride. on the real though i dont think it's a bad choice to move your little one to joco. south olathe has some very reasonable apts. and the worst you will have to deal with will be teenagers making dumb choices. Keep the little one out of the streets just like in any place and you'll be golden. you got a few years till you really need to worry about that. JOCO SAFE AS ANY OTHER PLACE;~~~~ LAWYERD

folks seem to be a lil unhappy about the latino population, from apartmentratings.com Olathe has what you call a ghetto and it goes by the name of Jefferson place From: billmandacina Date posted: 8/15/2005 Years at this apartment: 2003-2004 its by far the ghettoest apartment complex i have ever been to there people here getting killed, hell! there is cops here alomest every night and there a lot mexican just hanging out in the parking lot at night and day time.almost all the people living here are drugies or in troible with the law. the swiming pool is horrible and there and there is trash all around the buildings and there was this one time where i found somebodys underwear laying on the footpath out side of the building. overall this place is like hell the lady in the office is very rude and disrespectful. and this nice lil jewel MONKEY INVASION!!!! BROWN TOWN! From: -Anonymous- Date posted: 10/25/2006 Years at this apartment: 2003-2006 1 response It has recently come to my attention that this place is falling apart, sure they might be able to lure you in with their promises of rehabing the place but there is still no reason for the parking lots and grounds to be full of trash, weeds, oversized bushes, beer bottles, drug perifinalia and even used condoms!! People wonder around at all hours of the night, children scream and run around at all hours, there is nowhere to park! But to top it off the office has been invaded by huge brown monkeys!! Huge brown monkeys with no customer service skills or knowledge!! This place has changed in the last few months from what it used to be I have lived here for almost 3 1/2 years and this place was finally looking good everyone was nice the people that lived here where different and now in the last few months everything has changed and I only see things going downward from here. I do not mean to be too rude but this place could be alot better and I know this because it has been!! WOW!
