this happens all the time..and as a producer i am up in the air about it. there should be clear defined laws regaurding percentages as it relates to sampling rights that we way can afford to keep this art form developing.

big deal. i hate that crap. just because you didn't make a bunch of money doesn't mean you were owed anything. the money isn't earned by the value of your "art"... quality is not the source of revenue. in fact, if you only got so far with it as it was, that's your fault for either not making an outstanding product or not pushing it to people until they believe it is. should we start collecting money to go to magazines, newspapers, and their employees for everybody who sells a collage?

True Phism. What producer hasn't snatched a loop? If you get caught and you can, pay up... or not! 😈 Timbaland can afford to but I feel if you make a beat out of someone else's music it become yours as much as theirs.

I'm wondering why they wouldn't pursue him in court? Winning a copyright lawsuit isn't contingent upon having the best lawyers money can buy. It's all about being able to substantiate your claim that the composition is your own and properly registered with the Library of Congress. This would be easy. At worst Timbaland would settle out. Which I imagine would still get them 5 figures.

[quote:db340dd431="trystyl"]i honestly don't care. This situation is a little different, but I'll sample anyone.[/quote:db340dd431] True me too, but he could have at least change the pitch or something. He crooked them! I'm mean hey I won't lie, I snatched a loop a couple times but I changed it enough that it's indistinguishable the original. Some would say it's mine, other say not. But hey I at least had the dignity to switch it up and add stuff. to give the original artist their props, and I get my props. But it's kinda like Timbaland was just straight up just telling those two guys ... "Hey, I'm taking your music and I'm gonna tell everyone it's mine, and get hella money for it, and give you nothing and theres nothing you can do about it... I'm Timbaland, Bitch! He could of at least give them there props! Especially cuz he's Timbaland you can't be that big, and NOT give someone there props (especially if you jack there music exactly), It might not be as big a deal if you're small potatoes... BUT TIMBALAND!?!? No love in the music industry nowadays, straight savagery!

Is this surprising? Timbaland's done this before. I hate to put that man's business in the street (well not really), but the drum loop from "You Owe Me" was a preset in one of the Reason programs. The individuals who were victimized should've gone after that man. The odds are in their favor if they can substantiate their claim that they own that composition. Worse case scenario they'll walk with 20-30 large.

from MTV.com: "YouTube Clip Claims Timbaland Got Furtado Track From Finnish Dude" A You Tube video [b:b15bf91976](see at http://youtube.com/watch?v=wV2fTEeP6GM)[/b:b15bf91976] floating around the Internet is making a controversial claim: that multiplatinum producer Timbaland might be guilty of violating his very own first rule of Beat Club — no biting. A YouTube user named TimbalandRips posted a brief clip on the Web site last week that accuses the veteran hip-hop beatsmith of stealing a melody from a little-known Finnish producer named Janne Suni. The video claims Timbaland used Suni's "Acidjazzed Evening" without permission for Nelly Furtado's "Do It," a track from the Canadian singer's most recent album, Loose. n the video, portions of Suni's song are played first, followed by parts of Timbaland's track, with a recording program indicating the similarities between the two compositions on a computer screen. Toward the end of the clips, text appears asking, "Hm, strangely perfect fit..?" A second YouTube video has also popped up, suggesting Timbaland used the same Suni work for a ringtone he produced last year titled "Block Party." Timbaland's representatives had not responded to phone and e-mail queries at press time. A message on a Web site with a Finnish address that appears to be Suni's official site reads, "I have been using the services of a law firm since September 2006. I expect to have more information to publish by Tuesday." The site also indicates that Suni composed "Acidjazzed Evening" under the name Tempest in 2000 for Assembly, a demoparty, or a regular gathering of computer enthusiasts. The site goes on to say that following Assembly — where the song bested 14 others to win a competition for "Oldskool Music" — the track, along with all the others released at the party, were uploaded to Scene.org, "which is a registered nonprofit organization aimed at providing the electronic-art scene with a forum for communication and a platform to share their work," the statement reads. "I have never given up the copyrights of 'Acidjazzed Evening.' I also have never authorized commercial use of the song." Although Timbaland has long collaborated with artists, in recent years the Virginia native has sought out other songwriter/producers to collaborate with as well. Rumors have swirled that he and Scott Storch had a falling out over production credits on Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" (Timbaland was named as producer; Storch was credited with playing keyboards). And for Timberlake and Furtado's latest LPs, Timbaland collaborated with upstart producer Nate "Danjahandz" Hills on a number of songs; in a recent issue of Complex magazine, the novice beatmaker said Timbaland has called Danja his successor. The pair, along with Timberlake, received two Grammy nominations this year, for Album of the Year (FutureSex/LoveSounds) and Best Dance Recording ("SexyBack"). As of press time, no legal action has been taken against Timbaland or his parent record label, Geffen Records. url: http://www.mtv.com/#/news/articles/1550506/20070122/timbaland.jhtml
