i ve been pondering board participation lately. so I'll start this way: no board has quality meaningful shit happening all the time, in fact I would venture to say that our boards doing pretty well as far as content and discussion. Lately I have noticed a slightly different direction on the boards so it started me to reflecting on what my original intentions were for starting this site. I have read the mission statement several times recently just to recapture that intent before I posted anything. I got reminded that this board came into being as a tool to support artists in their creativity primarily, be a connector for collaborators, insightful discussion, assistance with projects, requests for resources, heighten public awareness about all things Hiphop, to educate and stimulate ourselves and others and the like. While nothing is particularly wrong with the direction of late, it seems to be lite on this kind of networking and collaborating. Every board with any self respect has a thread devoted to everyday stuff that happens in the world while you're creating. WE are definately not slackin on the amount of events being posted throughout the month. I am glad to see so much happening in this area The "what are you working on" thread is full of potentially great project ideas that often have gone by the wayside or been hampered by a life event of some kind. this is understandable. I am a firm believer that not all ideas should be acted on, and that part of creating is the promise of something to come. I just wanted to bring this observation out to you as an opportunity for reflection and before these original intentions slip into a distant memory without so much as a peep. again it's not that something is wrong, no its more about what direction do WE wanna be headed in I'm all ears and thanks for hearing me out nrg

NO.... Doubt.. I feel the same way, and I think that's the intention of most forums, but they do get steered into stages of drama. That's why most people steer away form forums, like myself, because of this unfortunate phenom. I wanted to thank you personally though for even creating this avanue for collaboration though. You have influenced hip hop in KC probably more than you know. In the spirit of concurring with your statement, I hope to assist in placing the focus of the forum on creativity and community progression. AKA.. let's keep it movin.

Not to give too much away, but this forum has definitely opened up avenues for collabs, I am talking with Distorted about a project he and I will be working on, also Mr. Sixer and I are talking about a project, both are very promising artists with whom I am hyped to work with. I just have to get my lab back up and running, I am soon to have the house all to myself, so its time for me to get back to work, its lookin like March / April I will be all set again. Thanks Necia for this board, among all the other thing you do to keep it moving !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually believe that the board has seen a rise in participation and increased membership due largely in part to more expansive content on the site. HHKC has become a forum that welcomes and is inclusive of members who are not emcees, DJ's, graf artists, breakers or producers. And I think that's a good thing. If other members who don't quite fit into those boxes can find a place for themselves within this forum I think it will continue to thrive. Don't sell the last few months short though Stealth. Lots of networking has taken place. It isn't all archived on the site, but trust me it's happening. I can vouch for that personally. Myspace and email exchanges will probably continue to be the preferred methods for shorter communication (ie, "Wanna rock the January 12th show with us?"). The unique part about HHKC is that it provides a place for more in-depth conversation about the broader scope of what takes place within the community (ie, the Naydivz PSA on the new El Torreon). Folks are still getting at each other though. Private messages are a common weapon of choice so it's difficult to know that networking still takes place, but it does... Just my 2...

a few thoughts: * There is too much talk and not enough action. You are responsible for you. Make it work. Looking for the magic answer? Think of what you're NOT doing and do THAT. * The events going on around the hip hop world are great, but dont need to be any greater than what is going on and CAN go on here. Examine ourselves more. Dont be afraid and back off when things get honest close to home. * Push yourself. talking is boring without walking. I only say these things becasue I do them myself and find them useful and necessary.

I did feel like the boards were moving away from their original purpose - but that's what I liked. I kind of went away back when everything was all hiphop all the time. I like the fact that I can come on here and hear opinions about the recent Sadaam execution. Not hiphop - but it's something I'd like hiphoppers' perspectives on. Too many boards focus on the whole - we're only hiphop and only entertainment and I don't even mess with the conversations goin' on because all of the participants start to sound retarded or fake like they internet thugs or sun'n. I say it ain't broke - so don't fix it. Straight up though, I want to see more from hiphop KC off of the net and actually in the city. Who's to say hiphop kc couldn't get a word in the pitch on a normal basis with a section offering perspectives from KC's local hiphop cats? who's to say hiphop kc couldn't throw some dope shows from time to time? I'm just sayin' -- the change i'd like to see is definitely more of an external one rather than an internal one. I don't run the site so I only suggest but I'm down to get involved on that tip as you know NRG.

we currently have 536 members registered on hiphopkc.com. How many of these current members would you say are area artists? are fan and heads? come to this board for conversations with like minded folk are new to the scene local and or hiphop and trying to get to know it better? I am just taking stock of the perceptions of the boards current members as a way to ensure we are meeting the mission and needs of members.

Is it possible to set up like a quick list of those questions that people have to fill out in order to join? You know like a profile survey? Then you could analyze that and gauge it better. It always seemed to me like dang near everybody on here "did" hiphop in one way or another.

[quote:a8a7f5510a="Reach."]I actually believe that the board has seen a rise in participation and increased membership due largely in part to more expansive content on the site. [/quote:a8a7f5510a] agree I think thats good too. [quote:a8a7f5510a]HHKC has become a forum that welcomes and is inclusive of members who are not emcees, DJ's, graf artists, breakers or producers. And I think that's a good thing. If other members who don't quite fit into those boxes can find a place for themselves within this forum I think it will continue to thrive. [/quote:a8a7f5510a] the site's intent has always been about inclusion of entire local community,ie artists, fans supporter, the uninformed and about folks who are working and a resource for the interested and curious as well. It was and is very much about the GROWTH for: individuals, groups, fans, and all who make up the local community. note of interest: when I started talking about this site with my advisors, some of them said the focus was too narrow, that I would do better to make the site about the whole art scene in kc. after considering this advice and using basic marketing tenents, I decided to stay with my original intent and focus on hiphop and the hiphop community. [quote:a8a7f5510a]Don't sell the last few months short though Stealth. Lots of networking has taken place. It isn't all archived on the site, but trust me it's happening. I can vouch for that personally. [/quote:a8a7f5510a] not selling the activity, exchanges, participants or content over the last few months short as all. Just had a question about 1. is the site's mission being fulfilled 2. are artists producing or more talking about productivity and 3. what if anything can the site do to encourage productivity, unity of purpose, collaboration, inspiration and a DO IT FRAME of mind. If you look at this from the perspective of just plain folks visiting the site, what you see on the boards is mainly the finished product ie performances, promotion of products, reviews and interviews, and in contrast, chitchat, speculation, history or trivia questions. base on this, how would folk know the amount of hook ups made through this board? as you say in the next comment, the actual plans, ie actions really take place behind the scene through other avenues. again they are taking place and that was what the question was about. [quote:a8a7f5510a]Myspace and email exchanges will probably continue to be the preferred methods for shorter communication (ie, "Wanna rock the January 12th show with us?"). The unique part about HHKC is that it provides a place for more in-depth conversation about the broader scope of what takes place within the community (ie, the Naydivz PSA on the new El Torreon). [/quote:a8a7f5510a] sounds like it is serving its mission from everyones feedback. can you see that without my question/observation I wouldn't have known this. [quote:a8a7f5510a]Folks are still getting at each other though. Private messages are a common weapon of choice so it's difficult to know that networking still takes place, but it does... [/quote:a8a7f5510a] hence the questions and observations. got answers and Couple of great ideas have been unearth from the convo as well and from miles Miles[quote:a8a7f5510a]a few thoughts: * There is too much talk and not enough action. You are responsible for you. Make it work. Looking for the magic answer? Think of what you're NOT doing and do THAT. [/quote:a8a7f5510a] I felt this too until I asked my questions. thanks for sayin it miles for one it comfirms that part of the hook up process/action is invisible to the boards. [quote:a8a7f5510a]* The events going on around the hip hop world are great, but dont need to be any greater than what is going on and CAN go on here. Examine ourselves more. Dont be afraid and back off when things get honest close to home. [/quote:a8a7f5510a] love this observation. its about external manifestation vs internal processing. its like if you go within yourself, ask yourself questions about what is or is not happening, and then question how to make it happen and I would add: if it NEEDS to be done and if YOU are the one who needs to do it. if its you then DO IT or take the steps necessary to get it done or share it with someone in your crew or another crew so they can get it done. DON'T BACK AWAY FROM IT OUT OF FEAR or never share it with someone you know would get it done. pass it on. [quote:a8a7f5510a]* Push yourself. [/quote:a8a7f5510a] again love it cuz I don't know about your process, but if I feel like I don't know how, or who, or when, (I'm afraid I can't for some reason) that's where I have to PUSH MYSELF TO identify the steps, people, plan or something and then take the ACTION. most of all I have to realize over and over IT'S UP TO ME to get er done [quote:a8a7f5510a]talking is boring without walking. [/quote:a8a7f5510a] speculation is ok in moderation, but once you publish it and it's mentioned in conjuction with your name and doesn't happen your rep starts to suffer so . . . . . . . . . keep it to yourself until you have planned the work and are ready to execute your plan. you've all seen this before. if I said middlegroundhiphop.com-pilation you'd know it never did what I intended for it to do . I know that hurt it's credibility. so now I have to make a better plan, make sure it's ready to manifest for real b4 I talk about it much more. [quote:a8a7f5510a]I only say these things becasue I do them myself and find them useful and necessary.[/quote:a8a7f5510a] I, for one, am glad you said it cuz some of this stuff can hard to hear or face. it comes as a great reminder for me about what and who its up to. to those who offered thanks to me in regards to this site, I appreciate it and love knowing the site is meaningful to you. its meaningful to me as well and praise is great but not why I'm doing it. thanks nrg

i just posted new pics from the Peanut in the photo section. sometimes i really don't have anything else to add to the discussion and therefore don't post as much as some people.. but for the most part i pay attention to what's going on here at HHKC. I'd like to see it continue to grow and flourish, and it looks like it's well on it's way to another great year.
