we lost a legend and true pioneer of the Kansas City blues and jazz scene yesterday. Jay Mcshann, whose body of work spans over nearly seven decades died yesterday. this man is one the key individuals responsible for the rise of Kansas City's Blues scene from the 40's on. He made a worldwide impact but always remained true to KC and he never really stopped playing shows. please, take a moment to reflect on his influence and the mark he left. i shed a tear when i heard of his passing this morning. props the the OG "Jay'

I didn't even know about this cat until like highschool when i interned a few years up at the Jazz museum on 18th & Vine. The name did often float around and I was fortunate enough to get to go through a few archival things that were proof of Jay's presence. KC is truly losin' gems - first Buck now Jay --> R.I.P. till we see you again lord willin'.
