one of the best albums i heard this year was mike pattons "peeping tom".
it's a rock, hip hop, drum n bass, electronic fusion masterpiece. with appearances from kool keith, amon tobin(one of my favs), dan the automater, norah jones (you'll be surprised on what comes out of her mouth),and kid koala who plays a mean turntable trumpet. You can find it on itunes and napster or at 7th heaven. OH and the male vocalist is originaly from Kansas city.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE ALBUM THIS YEAR?

I'm kinda indecisive so to get one answer outta me, I'd have to deliberate for a while, but...
J Dilla - Donuts, The Shining
Murs & 9th Wonder - Murray's Revenge
Little Brother - The Minstrel Show
Miles Bonny - Smell Smoke?
Corinne Bailey Rae
The Roots - Game Theory
Lupe Fiasco - Lupe's food and liquor
...man I guess I'm REALLY indecisive...
I almost downloaded Mos Def's new one today, but I resisted. If it's as hot as I've heard, I gotta cop it.

-Gorillaz - Demon Dayz
"Dirty Harry" is an awesome song. It makes me want to rollerskate backwards.
-Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
The singer is hard to listen to, but "My Yellow Country Teeth" is an amazing song. Plus, it is a wholly independent album that did very well, so I'm all for that.
-Victims of Telephone - Are Going to Brooklyn
They are a Springfield band that has since disbanded, but they rocked. My favorite song is here if you wanna hear it.

I notice there is virtually no hip-hop on my list o' three, but most of the hip-hop I heard for the first time this year was older.

Dang 2006 has been a sucky year for music IMO.
I can give some cds I liked this year, but favorite is too hard. Here's some I liked:
Neko Case: Fox Confessor Brings The Flood
Beruit: Gulag Orkestar
Pigeon John: ...and the summertime pool party
Gnarls Barkley: St. Elsewhere
Macromantics: Moments In Movement
The Procussions: 2 Sparrows for 2 Cents
Two Gallants: What The Toll Tells
Then There are the releases that my musical family put out:
Wut Metaphysical: The Last of The Metaphysical Poets
Emcee Noiz: The Dead Republic LP
All Eyes Manifest: Roll With The Punches
I take it back 2006 was an okay year, but no #1 favorite for me.

who all dropped official releases locally? when i left in April, the only discs i remember that were out were Joe and Mac's mixtapes.
i had Joe's in rotation for my entire 3 months in San Antonio, but haven't checked it since. i played it out to myself i think, and it makes me think of hot hickory ass Texas too, which doesn't help.
Not a huge Mac fan so i haven't heard LP2 or 3.
Stik dropped 'The Skinny', i haven't heard it.
Approach dropped 'The Nu', i haven't heard it.
D. Will and Ataxic dropped 'Oh No', heard it. it's dope.
Symbol Heavy dropped, haven't heard it.
Duece and Smoov dropped, heard a few joints that were dope.
....who else....
Miles obviously, only heard the myspace tracks, they were dope. is the whole disc scatting and ad-lib/improvs though?
let me know if i missed any.

The only two albums that really caught my ear that I played out repetitively were Dilla's "The Shining" and The Clipse "Hell Hath No Fury"
- Dec 8, 2006 09:14am by phism
i haven't really been interested in any music all year.
i only buy records for djing, and that's usually ignorant booty rap and shit like that.
i bought dabrye's album but never listened to it. i wanted coldcut's album, but only based on past merits..

[b:f1ee3b29ed]Gym Class Heroes --> "As Cruel as School Children"[/b:f1ee3b29ed]
Honestly THE MOST CONSISTENTLY DOPE album I have heard all year. It's on some different ish'.
Runner-ups would be Lupe and Busta's '06 joints.
