I've been gettin shit for about a month about this game. What better time for thier star quaterback and Alexander to be injured. Seneca Wallace ain't ready for arrowhead. I bet we see Alexander on the sidelines with a pad and pen takin notes from a real running back though LOL. Also this will tie our records at 4/3 shuttin my boys mouths up here. DAMNIT! We have to win!

Won't happen. Not here at 1 Arrowhead Drive.
Seneca Wallace won't have a running game to aid him in opening up the offense. And the Chiefs defense is swarming QB's lately.
I got KC by 10.

That's what I been tryin to tell them. They got 4 good receivers with no way to get the ball to them. Not only do they not have a run game, but thier run defense is lookin pretty weak. LJ for another 100+ game.
- Oct 27, 2006 12:54am by phism
and don't listen to any excuses when they start talking about having no hasselbeck because the chiefs haven't had their starting qb for a while... and substitute their shaun alexander for any number of our offensive linemen, plus our already-shitty corps of WRs and the chiefs are not in a better position.
the real factor here is homefield advantage. i had already pencilled this one in as an L but now i want to go to the game.

Things just got more interesting.
Damon Huard the Chiefs starting...err...backup QB tweaked his groin in practice yesterday. He was carted off according to reports.
Brodie "I'm not ready for the NFL" Croyle may have to play now.
Seattle just hit the jackpot...
Trent Green has yet to be medically cleared for game activities.
Here's hoping a Cortizone shot will help Huard battle through this one.
Otherwise, expect to see Larry Johnson carry the ball 35 times.

NEVERMIND.
Slight groin tweak, but Huard's expected to play.
I'll lower the spread a bit to account for the injury.
Chiefs by 7.

I just saw this story on ESPN last night. It is a groin injury. Herm and Damon are making a game-time decision.
- Oct 29, 2006 07:09am by phism
this is going to be an interesting game.
i think huard's going to end up starting, but we'll see. i'm not sure if i expect much out of croyle.
but i think the chiefs defense is gonna be amped. going after a backup qb at arrowhead? fuggetabadit...
as long as they mix it up like they did against the chargers...
p.s. i really like the way they're using kris wilson. throws the defense off when they don't know what position a dude is playing or where he's gonna be at all. he could be blocking from a number of places, could be a receiver, and could possibly even run it (ha).. i think maybe they should consider playing wilson that way regardless of whether they've got a dedicated fullback. not that this makes up for losing tony richardson or anything... but really, blocking fullback and blocking tight end aren't that different from each other when you think about it, and having a dude sort of float does give a very small edge to ya

I remember when Seneca Wallace got off on Florida State his senior year when they played them @ Arrowhead. They almost pulled an upset. I was 'working' a concession stand that night as a fundraiser for my own football team. it was a great game.

Told you the Chiefs would win this one by 7.
I'm certainly not applauding Ronnie Cruz's injury, but that situation might prove to be a good one for Wilson.
With him playing FB full time he may finally prove to be an offensive contributor. I mean, he finally caught his first TD pass in his career last week... And he made a couple of key grabs today.
Weird, but hey...Whatever works.
I think Huard is playing so well he's gonna make it tough for this coaching staff to give the job back to Green in 2 weeks. I think that would be a bad decision.
- Oct 30, 2006 10:33am by DEMENCHA
^^^What makes me partially agree with you about huard is that the guy simply doesn't throw many interceptions.
- Oct 30, 2006 05:55pm by phism
i think green should at least take his time. it's not like we [i:b02d612367]need[/i:b02d612367] him back. and you never know what's going to happen when someone comes back from an injury... look at how long it took ben roethlisberger to start performing.

Thank you L.J.!!! I got to laugh in the faces of all my Seahawk insignia wearing coworkers.
We DO need Green back. Huard is good for a second string, but green is a veteran who has played our upcoming shedules defenses in the past and knows how to pick them apart. He could always speak the wisdom to Huard, but we all know experience is the best teacher. Denver in KC on Thanksgiving huh? Yeah, we need Green.

We don't need Green as long as Huard is playing efficiently.
Mind you, Green has traditionally been a slow-starter in the early half of the football season.
Huard has put up numbers and been extremely efficient.
That's what you need in a QB.
The guy can make every kind of NFL throw.
Rushing Green back would be a mistake.
It's an assumption that he'll come back and be the same guy.
Roethlisberger came back from a serious injury and he hasn't been the same. Why piss a game away just because Green would be starting under normal circumstances? Go with the hot hand.
- Oct 31, 2006 04:31am by phism
^i was gonna say the same. it'll take homie a while to get back into it. roethlisberger is the example i'd use. tell green to take his time and get a bunch of practices in... treat him like a backup and maybe put him in if we're beating somebody really hard (i.e. the raiders?)
p.s. you must have been listening to the radio earlier.
- Oct 31, 2006 02:44pm by DEMENCHA
when green does come back...do you guys think huard won't skip town next season to start for some other team?

Agreed, we need a healthy Green for an effective Green. However, Huard has backed several top ranking quarterbacks including Dan Marino. The league coaches know his potential, if someone wanted him as thier franchise quarterback it would have happened before now. Also his few games of consistency will never match Green's 81 consistent starts.
- Nov 2, 2006 09:36am by phism
they keep talking about this on the radio... i don't see why no one understands that there is an obvious middle ground.
you don't put green in as soon as he's cleared by the doctors. nor do you keep huard in until he has a bad game and then yank him.
when green's cleared, treat him like a backup. after team practices and everything, if there's an impossible point spread going on (hopefully a favorable one for the chiefs... like the 49ers game, not the steelers game)... let him have a few snaps and see how he handles it, see how his mechanics and his balance are, and most of all see if he can confidently take a few hits...
i don't see it as a starting quarterback controversy, BUT i don't think green's first snap when he returns should be at the beginning of a game. unless huard gets hurt or something.
but right now, let huard do his thing and don't take the risk of putting in a rusty qb. i'd rather trent go in after sitting impatiently on the bench and trying to prove himself ready than go in whenever he's first ready and be constantly second-guessing himself or whatever.

Huard will actually be a free agent after the year is over so I think he could generate some serious interest on a bad football team. AND since the Chiefs drafted Croyle and have Casey Printers and more pressing resignings to do...He probably won't get a new deal and could easily find himself in a good situation on another team.

That was then, this is now.
If you think about JD... The same thing happened with Green.
He didn't get much of a chance as a starting QB early in his career and turned into a solid, solid player at that position. The same could be true of Huard.
Think about the Green/Warner situation in STL.
That guy took them on to the big dance.
[quote:703a563ed0]The league coaches know his potential, if someone wanted him as thier franchise quarterback it would have happened before now.[/quote:703a563ed0]
It's never that Black & White in the NFL.
Case in point? KC's own Greg Hill. That guy never got a chance in KC.
Why? Because Marty Schottenheimer didn't play young guys.
He was pushed out because of it.
Sometimes certain situations don't allow you the opportunity to be a starter in the NFL. That's ideal, but things don't always work that way.
[quote:703a563ed0]Also his few games of consistency will never match Green's 81 consistent starts.[/quote:703a563ed0]
They don't have to. Don't lose the forest for the trees JD.
We're trying to make a post-season run...this year. That's all that matters.
If Huard wins in St. Louis he'll make every case possible that he should keep the starting job. You're giving us conventional NFL wisdom. Starters can't lose their jobs to injury. That's not always an effective ideology though. Look at the situation in Pittsburgh.
Charlie Batch could've taken Pittsburgh on to win that game in Oakland.
Now that team's in serious danger of missing the post-season.
Roethlisberger isn't the same QB after his injury.
What makes you so sure Green will be?
If Huard lays an egg in St. Louis this week I say give the job back to Green, but if he doesn't have 2 back weeks on the road and can win 1 of those games you have to leave him alone.
Doesn't make sense to sit your hot hand down just for the sake of staying true to conventional NFL wisdom. We don't know who Green's gonna be when he comes back and why risk losing a game that Huard could help us win?

Exactly, but in the NFL there are stated rules and traditions that die hard.
This is one of them. In the NFL starting players cannot lose their job to injuries. Especially at QB. That's flawed wisdom though.
Because of how hot Huard's hand has been.
[quote:85c8a7cbee]you don't put green in as soon as he's cleared by the doctors. nor do you keep huard in until he has a bad game and then yank him.[/quote:85c8a7cbee]
I've thought about this myself and you're right.
If KC drops this game in STL every sports radio host is gonna rant about how Trent should get the job back. Only that wouldn't exactly be fair either because even under Green the Chiefs have been a horrible road team. One could question whether a healthy Green could take the Chiefs into St. Louis and win. He hasn't won a big game on the road in a long time.
[quote:85c8a7cbee]when green's cleared, treat him like a backup. after team practices and everything, if there's an impossible point spread going on (hopefully a favorable one for the chiefs... like the 49ers game, not the steelers game)... let him have a few snaps and see how he handles it, see how his mechanics and his balance are, and most of all see if he can confidently take a few hits...[/quote:85c8a7cbee]
It's my opinion that he shouldn't play again until we're playing at Arrowhead. The road isn't the place to test him out.
[quote:85c8a7cbee]but right now, let huard do his thing and don't take the risk of putting in a rusty qb. i'd rather trent go in after sitting impatiently on the bench and trying to prove himself ready than go in whenever he's first ready and be constantly second-guessing himself or whatever.[/quote:85c8a7cbee]

Schottenheimer was a hater of young players. As was Vermeil.
Greg Hill might've been the Priest Holmes of that era, but we'll never know because Marty was hungover Marcus Allen in the twilight of his career.

I don't think it was Hill's wife, but it was a highly publicized affair.
That's rumored to have been the reason why he left KC.
