my brother borrowed the bootleg from his friend a while ago. I was ashamed...just kept asking "why?". ...sigh... I'm serious that video made me sad, mad man. Trust me KC wasn't the worst, but in all the cities shown, it was just so sad. Kills me how the white people "trap" you...that [i:5e521c31f6]they're[/i:5e521c31f6] the ones that are forcing you to kill each other...ughh.....but then at that same instant you're going to be [i:5e521c31f6]proud[/i:5e521c31f6] about that!?!?! ...I...I'm going to bed on that...I tired.

I don't know that I said that everybody's ignorant though. Everybody includes me and quite a few other law-abiding folk. I know for a fact that everybody isn't ignorant. If you think this smacks of elitism then something's wrong with you. I watched the clip and saw a bunch of grown ass men willfully indulging in such destructive behaviors. I'm not in a position to exact any judgment over them. And ain't trying to... I just realize that that's the other half of Black folks problems. There are forces in action that want nothing but to see us devoured, but at the same time shit like this... Only makes it worse and reinforces those at work to keep us in a certain position. But I'll be that though. Backpacking ballerina and all.

("Kills me how the white people "trap" you...that they're the ones that are forcing you to kill each other...ughh....") I understand that the rich constituents that bought slaves from Africa and brought them here, and also those who engineered the projects some time after they were freed, were white. And business and corporate owners who have built our economy to keep them on top and minorities at bay and poor are also white. But shit, we're all smart people...right? 🙄 I'm saying, can't you think of a more specific characteristic pertaining to these people than their skin color? I recognize the teetered balance in opportunity between races here, but the people that fucked the system up didn't fuck it up because they are white. And there's alot of us 'white people' that aren't "trapping" black people. How about "greedy"? How about a more personality defining characteristic than to just demonize a people based on the color of their skin, i.e. what white people did to blacks and native americans back in the day... ...we're always fighting for fair judgement, right? It goes both ways.

As you demonstrated in your post Lucid, the problem goes deeper. But, I do know some people personally that take on the attitude I described above, and use that as an excuse for validating certain self-destructive behavior...and in that case the problem is not perpetuated so much by the outside force that they percieve it to be, but more so by themselves. (that is not to say that the former, [i:d3895bb670]does not[/i:d3895bb670] contribute in that case.) I'm not in anyplace to judge anyone. Word Atilla. I'm glad you were being sarcastic. Digital language leaves gaps in expression where inflection and body language would fill in. Sarcasm is hard to read on a board, unless you know somebody quite well and understand that they just wouldn't say such a thing. It's inherent in our nature to try and classify our banes as easily and concisely as possible. Which is where the puritan demonologies of my forefathers (racially, not regionally) arose from. Fear of the native americans and the unknown environment pushed the puritans to find comfort in opposition against the indigenous peoples of america. Same thing happens today, you see it alot in the middle east. As long as people have something to fight against they can feel fulfilled and justified in their life goals and pursuits. The more basic the terms in which one can define their enemy, the easier it is to find people to fight beside them. Shit's way convoluted...

i mean if it sounded like i was defending the guys in the video it was because Reach's comment on it was strictly "SMH" as in he was looking down upon them... when in doubt that video doesn't really show who they are as people but the front they put on... because in reality some of those guys have enrolled themselves in college or are trying to... honestly some of those guys were faking and only being that way to increase their image, some of them are "gangsta rappers" who never even go to 12th St. anymore... And to NRG, i didn't really have a choice besides school, nobody in the area would've gave me any drugs to sell because they all wanted to see me go the legit route... and phism i don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but i do believe you can't blame a person for what their enviroment has groomed them to be... the schools in that area aren't shit, all we had were sports team and the block, luckily my mother was aware of this and would take me 30 mins away for school every morning...

True: The Klu Klux Klan used to hold thier meetings on the lawns of capital buildings in major cities. Anybody disagree??? True: Major figure-heads who were focused on an equal nation were murdered. Anybody disagree??? When Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assasinated riots broke out. When George W. Bush was re-elected some protests occured. Anybody disagree??? When the Patriot Act passed into law, a very small group of americans protested. Anybody disagree??? When Iraq was unlawfully infiltrated most american citizens talked about "how bad it was", but did nothing. Anybody disagree??? The scary part is that plenty more examples are available... If by me standing by the principles of which were taught to my mother and my mother's mother makes me anything less than a loving member of my people...I'm fine with that. Truth-telling doesn't always win people over. [quote:296fdd506c]when in doubt that video doesn't really show who they are as people but the front they put on...[/quote:296fdd506c] I'm certain of that fact. People are much too complex to be dissected in 8 minutes, but while I won't argue the fact I know that 8 minutes is plenty of time to leave a lasting impression on someone. I don't pretend to know these brothers. I'm sure they're a lot more complex than I got to see. Here's what I do know though, they willingly and voluntarily participated in a video that does nothing but glorify destructive behaviors that cost fellow brothers and sisters their lives.

[quote:73ac654ab5="D-Crew"] ALOT of rappers today are more worried about a check and being on bet then actually saying something worthwhile...[/quote:73ac654ab5] Ain't that the truth? That's why I'm forced to say something everytime a mic is armed. I see stuff on television that hurts my heart man. I can't sit down to a tablet and not have something to say about it. Folk are out here hurting. Rims and jewelry can't fix that pain.

everything youve said reach is real, sometimes those answers arent the ones we wanna here, but there honest. but at a certain point, it feels like you talkin to a brick wall--im sure youve been there. i often wonder what happend to the standards, i think they were replaced with money and hate, to of the most hollow things that this wicked world has to offer. very depressing.

Who am I to look down upon the imperfections of others? My religious foundation teaches me that God sees us all as 'wretched' apart from his grace. And grace itself is nothing more than being favored undeservedly. That, in itself, thwarts any attempt I could wage to present myself as any better than the next man. I'm not here to pass judgment on anyone. That said, I'm also not here to turn a blind eye to ignorance and the destructive behaviors that have become a legacy to my people. [quote:ad88cb0bde]i often wonder what happend to the standards, i think they were replaced with money and hate, to of the most hollow things that this wicked world has to offer. very depressing.[/quote:ad88cb0bde] It is depressing, but I'm encouraged everyday. Encouraged in the triumphs of our young people. I know there's hope. And I'm doing all that I can to be a very small part of that change. For all eyes that may bother to read this in its entirety understand that I have no interest in berating those who have taken the wrong path. My goal, my mission is to speak out against the behaviors that are handicapping our community, to be an example to my brethren and to be available to them in everyway possible. Love is love...

Reach- My thing is this.... Say what you mean, and mean what you say! Posting that..to me, is a set-up. Setting up people that don't even know, to prove how holy you are to the few people that read this stuff. I mean if you feel like we're doing bad as a people, then put in the subject line"We're doing bad" and then in the body, offer your possible solution dog. It just makes you "look" like your passing judgement on people you don't even know- and at the end of the day, to me... that approach is cowardly and lacks leadership. We can all complain and moan, and put bait on a hook, but for real, real ass people without a self promoted agenda don't do shit like that!! Peace. 😀

K-Barnz said ("Say what you mean, and mean what you say!") This from the most random-est (don't care if it's not a word) saying dude on these boards! I find it hard to believe you mean 80% of the shit you write. And I don't care whether you do or not, but it's hypocritical to call Reach on preaching something he believes in when half of your comments are sarcasm and satire. Plus, I think Reach offers good advice within the contents of his music, his true method of message conveyance. Only thing I know about K-Barnz is that I waited on her ass for a private lunch at Lidia's, twice. And she likes arugula salads. I do agree that we need to see more action, less preaching, in all things. But this ain't the forum to reach out to the public. This is where people who want to build on hiphop and hiphop related activities, whether philosophical or self-promoting, talk about what to do, how to do it, and sometimes just bitch or share their cynical outlook. Like you said, only a handful of us even read or respond to this shit.

[quote:8aec7d02b4="kbarnz"]Reach- My thing is this.... Say what you mean, and mean what you say![/quote:8aec7d02b4] I stand by everything I said. I'm not singing a different tune. [quote:8aec7d02b4]Posting that..to me, is a set-up. Setting up people that don't even know, to prove how holy you are to the few people that read this stuff.[/quote:8aec7d02b4] This sounds eerily like something someone else has said to me about a dozen times in this very forum. This leaves me wondering... Again, our community has gone to hell in a handbasket when we can't speak out against such behaviors for fear of being called elitists. Call me what you want. I said it before. Truth telling doesn't always win folk over. [quote:8aec7d02b4]It just makes you "look" like your passing judgement on people you don't even know- and at the end of the day, to me... that approach is cowardly and lacks leadership.[/quote:8aec7d02b4] Cowardice in my book amounts to seeing a problem and being to afraid to call it like it is just so folk won't think you're passing judgment on them. Again, that is not what our community was about 40 years ago. Your neighbors beat your little ass when they saw you cutting fool. They weren't concerned about how your parents were going to respond because there was a standard for what was and wasn't acceptable. And sure enough upon your parents finding out they reinforced that discipline. We need that now. Them brothers don't need to be pacified. The world outside isn't going to. Neither should those who love and care about them. [quote:8aec7d02b4]We can all complain and moan, and put bait on a hook, but for real, real ass people without a self promoted agenda don't do shit like that!![/quote:8aec7d02b4] So this is a validation process now? I have to outline what I've done within our community in order to decry the very things that've kept many of us in the same position? (Sigh) I've been working diligently with members of my community for as long as I can remember. I'm not going to make a list in this forum. That would only make those efforts look 'puffed up' and insincere. Folk that know me can vouch for me though. I'm not just talking. Again, yesteryear you didn't have to be a civic leader to speak out against the destructive behaviors handicapping your community. My how quickly and how far we've fallen. Its not what you say its how you say it, and Reach the way you started this thread led me and it seems like others to misinterpret your intentions of creating this. Once you clarified I understand completely where you were coming from. It seemed as if you were just specifically attacking, and judging those guys, but now I [i:f4068e3343]believe[/i:f4068e3343] you were using them as a representation of the African American community as a whole.
