I used the link, that is exactly what I needed, however, I get an error saying: "cant find one MPD16" I am running it through the MIDI, is this only for USB ?

If you're running it via a standard midi connection you will need to configure it to your liking in the software you use. The driver software is for the usb connection. I always just use a standard midi connection and find it more stable overall since my soundcard has midi ins and outs. I have a m-audio midi controller that has usb and it always seems to cause conflicts so I just use my asrx or yamaha (since it has more keys anyway). The usb is supposed to help things out, but is more of a pain in the ass imo.

I'm on a laptop so my choices were somewhat limited. The best option anywhere near my price range was the Emu 1616 which kicks serious booty imo. I had bought the M-Audio firewire 410 and had driver issues and found the preamps to be super duper poor, not to mention the fact the two preamps are just one input. I've had real bad luck with M-Audio products. Mentioned the midi controller that always had issues and also tried one audio interface prior to trying the firewire 410 which was the fast track usb and it resulted in formatting my hard drive....somehow I thought it might be better with the firewire one though (it was a little actually, but not much). My monitors are M-Audio though and haven't blown ........yet. On the Emu I can tell you the drivers are rock solid, the latency is low, the preamps are very high quality. The downsides of the Emu are the phantom power seems odd at times and quicktime screws with the drivers bigtime (note: the drivers on pro audio cards are not microsoft signed because they don't follow the new drm standards, so probably not just limited to Emu).

You guys might make me have to dis myself to keep that ego from coming back. The two of you might find this site to be handy. It's a really good place to find info on plugins (instrument and effect), and pretty much anything about computer music. They have people that know a crapload more about the stuff than I do. It's also a good resource since many vst plugins are free and there's some pretty good ones out there at that price. http://www.kvraudio.com/

I would go crazy when I first found out about that site. Nowadays I stick to the bread and butter. If there's talk of something really good then I check it out, but that folder was getting out of hand and is somewhat under control now. On the effects some must have freebies are the Kjerhaus Classic Series, DaSample Glaceverb, and the Camel Audio distortion plugin.
