Topic: Hip Hop and Crystal

here is a post i saw in another website
In a special edition of The Economist Magazine, the managing director of Louis Roderer Cristal addressed the popularity of the brand amongst Hip-Hop artists.
In an article titled "Bubbles & Bling" in the March 2006 issue, Frédéric Rouzaud, the managing director of Cristal, stated that the company observes its association with the rap world with "curiosity and serenity."
Despite importing over 50,000 cases of the champagne per year, Rouzaud was less than thrilled at rappers' fondness for the posh drink.
"What can we do?" Rouzaud told The Economist. "We can't forbid people from buying it. I'm sure Dom Perignon or Krug would be delighted to have their business."
The article further labeled the constant Cristal patronage by rappers as "unwelcome attention."
The article contains pictures of Sean "Diddy" Combs, one of the drink's most popular enthusiasts and quotes Jay-Z's No. 1 hit "Hard Knock Life," which name-checked the brand.
According to AmericanBrandstand.com, the pricey champagne was the 8th most mentioned brand on Billboard's Top 100 chart in 2005 with 35 mentions, being promoted by the likes of Kanye West, Trina, Lloyd Banks, The Game, Mariah Carey, and others.

Any publicity is good publicity....and even better when they endorse it for free. He is probably pissed because most rappers don't pronounce the name correctly.

Hilfiger all over again?
That was a myth. Hilfiger never made those comments.
Oprah has said a number of times she's never even met the man.

Yeah, thats not what he's pissed about. His pissed because it's probably affecting his sales to "preferred" clientelle (not rich black people). The last thing you worry about in sales product is pronunciation. C'mon, if you sell 50,000 cases of expensive shit successfully do you really care about what people are calling it?

The only reason Frredereek Rooozaaddd(roll the r's and the d's) would think unfavorably of such product attention and heavy endorsement from rappers would have to be a fear of it losing it's distinction and class by being so associated with the riff-raff and dregs that make up this culture. I mean, unless he distincly doesn't like its association more with violence, drugs and derogotory classifications of females and it's not a race/class thing at all. But I think he would have said that.
I personally don't like champagne.

If you sell 50,000 cases of expensive shit should you really care who buys it? It really doesn't make any sense. All the larger than their life rappers that rep the cristal are actually making the guy money anyway you look at it. If they drink it, then someone is buying it. If they endorse it as the best shit ever (last I checked champagne is kind of a puss drink, but that's beside the point) other people will follow like a heard of sheep. From a business side of things Mr Cristal made a real stupid comment, but the chances are pretty good it won't hurt sales any (especially if larger publications pick up the story).

guerilla marketing hiphop style. the last person you think would buy something is the person buying it! hiphop put cristal on the market to a whole new demographic
now they have customers from both generational and nuvo rich new money folks.
only problem with that is one of their clients doesn't like being associated with the other

Guess those bigtime rappers are too good for Andre'. In reality promoting the use of alcohol and drugs is not a good thing regardless if it's a 5 dollar bottle or a 5000 dollar bottle. It is a message that contains no good at all imo.

Actually in the 90's it was all about the O.E. and St Ides or any other cheap malt liquor for some. That's pretty much in the MD 20/20 range. If they are going to be going on about wine and champagne then someone needs to do a song called "Spacebag".

Obviously you've never experienced Mad Dog.
As far as the whole discussion goes, yeah blame it on hiphop or culture or whatever. At the end of the day I see exactly what's goin on. "look at my cars, they stay gettin pulled over"
