The retreat allows deejays to network and gives established and up-and-coming artists the opportunity to introduce their music to some of the country's most prominent deejays. The forthcoming event marks the third retreat. The Core DJs previously stopped by Chicago in August 2004 and Miami this past February. For the new St. Louis retreat, deejays and artists will take part in music showcases and meet-and-greets in various locations across the city. The weekend will also include a host of parties and an awards ceremony. RPM/Mixshow Power Summit's Rene McLean, Interscope's Kevin Black and Universal's Jennifer "Jenn-Boggie" Norwood have all won awards previously. Several members of the music industry are set to receive "The Jam Master J" award for supporting the deejay community. Coordinated by Tony Neal of Milwaukee's WKKV Mix radio station, The Core DJs is slowly growing into a coalition of 100 DJs that includes Rap City's Mad Linx, DJ Kut of New York's Power 105.1 and mixtape DJ Clinton Sparks. The St. Louis retreat is sponsored by BMF Entertainment. Past sponsors include The Source Magazine, Sony BMG, Lock Em Down Records, Interscope and Atlantic Records. Meanwhile, artists such as Pharrell Williams, Jacki-O, David Banner, John Legend, Timbaland, Juelz Santana and Mike Jones have attended past retreats. The Core DJs Retreat takes place at St. Louis' Adams Mark Hotel August 25th-28th.
