Am I the only person in the free world that's tired of hearing a bunch of idiots complaining about Barry Bonds? Why am I the only person who realizes this public outcry by both the media and blue-blooded fans of the game has NOTHING to do with steroids and EVERYTHING to do with skin color? Where was the backlash when Mark McGwire (who was as juiced as anything that didn't bear the name Tropicana) was on his way to surpassing the Maris' single-season homerun record? Correct me if I'm wrong, but fans of the game did NOTHING at all to vilify McGwire, right? Why? Because the McGwire/Sosa assault on the record resurrected the game. I'm sick of hearing these snot-nosed journalists who know nothing about the real world let alone sports complaining about Bonds. Sure Bonds is an asshole. Always has been. How's that important to what he's accomplished during his tenure? Pete Rose was an asshole too... And the same journalists who vilify Bonds are pushing for Pete Rose to get into the Hall of Fame...And he bet on Baseball BOTH as a player and as a manager. ON THE TEAM HE PLAYED FOR (Cincinnati Reds) NO LESS!!! Is that any less harmful to the integrity of the game? Mind you, Rose denied betting on the game of Baseball for 15 YEARS (from the time he retired in 1989 until 2004). Here's the naked truth... Bonds was a Hall of Fame player before he ALLEGEDLY began taking steroids. That should end the argument. Steroids won't help you hit a Major League curveball. A feat that's believed to be the singular hardest thing to do in all of professional sports. This is dumb. I'm sick of hearing fans and lame journalists talk about how race has NOTHING to do with why Bonds is facing all this backlash. I'm sick of hearing journalists throw words like "purity" around. There's nothing pure about Major League Baseball. Hitter friendly parks, juiced balls, lower mounds... Let's be serious here people. Babe Ruth is the most celebrated figure in the history of the game. Ruth never had to face a Black or Latin pitcher. How's that for integrity? Why aren't owners being taken to task for having made millions upon millions of dollars off of players who've taken steroids? *Giving you a moment to think about the question* If you really want to know friends... I'll tell you. It's for the same reason that enemies of Bonds are pushing to get Pete Rose (who bet on Major League Baseball) into the Hall. It's for the same reason that members of the media refused to write stories on the questionable character of George Herman Ruth who was as big a womanizer as any man not named Henry the 8th. It's for the same reason that no one called the character of Ty Cobb, an out and out racist, into question. It's for the same reason that the media was mum about McGwire during his assault on the Maris' record after ballooning to the size of an NFL tight end. Folks spend the better part of their day with their heads lodged in their hindquarters. If I hear one more person tell me what is and ISN'T a race issue I'm going to stab someone in the throat. Why is it that racism never exists if someone who's completely and utterly blind to the reality of American society doesn't think it's so? Not one Black caller has phoned 61 Sports today to say that this ISN'T a race issue. And I've been listening since 7am. It's 10 minutes to 5. That's not a coincedence. Race is never an issue in the minds of folk who are living behind their rose-colored glasses. Keep this in mind... There's no wage that comes along with Blacks (or any other minority for that matter) trumping up instances of racism. Really there isn't. This is about the color of that man's skin. End of story. I can name a dozen Major League Baseball players who've taken steroids who's names you will NEVER HEAR. This is ridiculous. I'm a Baseball aficionado. Always have been. Always will be. I'm sick of this... Has Bonds ever taken steroids? I don't know. He denies ever having taken them and has never tested positive. Take that with a grain of salt. I know this... The Balco scandal explicitly names a dozen Major League players... Why is Bonds the only player who's remained in the media's scope? Because he's the best Baseball player since Babe Ruth ran the diamond... And he's Black. This isn't about cheating... Baseball, more than any other American sport, has a celebrated culture of cheating. From corked bats, to water-soaked fields, to intercepting signs, to doctored baseballs. It's existed longer than anyone in this forum has been alive. Anyone remember the infamous pine tar incident with hometown hero George Brett? You can't find a more beloved sports figure in this town. This isn't about integrity... The game doesn't have any. The commish turned a deaf ear to the rampant use of steroids in the 90's. And he did so despite all of the evidence congress had on the issue. This is the same sport that saw the homerun king, Henry Aaron, receiving death threats for being the first player to surpass Babe Ruth. The same sport that denied the entrance of minority players during Ruth's era. The same sport that saw the fixing of the 1919 World Series. The same sport that saw Pete Rose gambling on the team he played on and coached for. This isn't about doping... Players took amphetamines, to increase productivity, years before the steroid crisis began. I can name a dozen Major League players who've taken steroids. From McGwire to Brady Anderson to Rafael Palmeiro to Jason Giambi. Baseball has been complicit in the steriods affair so there is nothing else to talk about. Eff an asterisk. Bonds breaks the record...He breaks the record. END TRANSMISSION.

i don't know anything about baseball, but i would be more willing to give him shit because i know he's an asshole than i would to mcgwire or sosa. sosa's not white. hasn't he been trying to do this for a few seasons now? i think people are giving him shit because they kind of want him to retire.

[quote:bee5de4833="phism"]i don't know anything about baseball, but i would be more willing to give him shit because i know he's an asshole than i would to mcgwire or sosa.[/quote:bee5de4833] You're oversimplifying. Pete Rose is as big an asshole as you can find in the MLB annals. [quote:bee5de4833]sosa's not white.[/quote:bee5de4833] Sosa's also not Black. [quote:bee5de4833]hasn't he been trying to do this for a few seasons now? i think people are giving him shit because they kind of want him to retire.[/quote:bee5de4833] People are giving him shit because once he hits the 715th homerun of his career Babe Ruth's legacy will become painfully quiet. And just as quickly as the rain came... They won't give a damn about Bonds anymore because the next plateau will be catching and surpassing the homerun king himself Henry "Black as a lump of coal his damn self" Aaron. No one will care about that though.

he's kinda black. black enough for white people, especially. again, i don't know anything about baseball.

[quote:7304de4a58="phism"]he's kinda black. black enough for white people, especially.[/quote:7304de4a58] Still... Sosa ain't Black. Sosa is also a significantly less talented player than Bonds. After Babe Ruth there was Barry Bonds. He's the best player since the American public celebrated Babe Ruth. Anyone who claims to be a fan of the game knows that. Add that to the fact that Barry Bonds is black "like the color of his true love's hair" and there you have the reason why the American public hates his ass...
  6. May 10, 2006 05:19pm by Deta!L - I just said that so you would stop bothering me.
well I don't hate dude, but I never liked that dude, even before he took steroids I don't like Pete Rose and never did, but that's an unfair comparison I don't like baseball either SOMEBODY HUG ME!

I have had way too many arguments about Barry Bonds....but its funny when I ask them about him winning 3 MVP awards in Pittsburgh...no one has anything to say. The media has done a great job turning Barry Bonds into a circus freak, what they have failed to do is help to school the public on the use of steroids & what areas it really gives you improvement in. I havent seen any cases in which steroids helped a players hand-eye coordination, helped a player hands get through the zone quicker & helped you recognize a 2 seam fastball from a 4 seam when it leaves the pitchers hands. Whats the advantage that the players are given? I don't see whats the difference between a 420 foot home run & a 450 home run, (beside making the top ten plays). The world has all but forgotten about Jason Giambi, which is easy to do when he still continues to put up the exact same number he did when he was shooting up....and maybe this is just perception, but I would figure playing center stage everynight in arguably the most unforgivable city in America, Giambi, a person who has been found guilty of using, would have a little tougher time than someone who is being accused of using. Would Bonds be receiving this kind of treatment if he wasnt in pursuit of arguably the greatest record in sports? Would Giambi recieve the same treatment if he were pursuing the record? Was steroids a 'non issue" when the "Bash Brothers" were walkin around in the 80's lookin like King Kong? Just some issues /questions I would like to see feedback on, cuz as of now, this defiantaley appears to be deeper than steroids.

I suppose, physiologically speaking, you could improve bat speed, but that has as much to do with pitch recognition as anything else. The quicker you know what pitch is coming... The quicker you react. Process information quicker... Bat comes around quicker. Better chance at making contact. Good contact. That kind of awareness can't be improved will performance enhancers... You make a great point Lou. Bonds is chasing sports most sacred record. And he's Black while doing it.

How do I word this... Say Bonds used Steroids to get to 700 home runs Now lets wonder where he'd be at had he not used steroids: he's still have at least 600 home runs, easy

Without question. He was in the Hall nine, yes I said NINE, years ago. His numbers in 1997 were good enough to get him in. And the accounts that he used steroids mark the doping period between 1998-2002.

racially sosa is black ethnically hes latino/hispanic But thats another discussion Common sense will tell you Barry is roid raging. Reach is right though dude was a Hall Of Famer way before this situation ever occured. And while steroids wont help you hit a curveball It will however help you if you get ahold of one. From what I understand though all Barry was taking was a supplement that will allow him to heal faster so that he can train longer. Which to me sounds to me nothing more than to be Creatine. Which you can pick up at any and all wal mart and wal green locations. Go head Barry Bonds Hit them shits. Passing Babe Ruth on the All Time HR List will be bigger than passing Hanks 755. Not only did they say Ruth's 714 was impassable when it was finally surpassed they said nobody will ever be able to break 714 again. And on a side not I think Ken Griffey JR is a better ball player than Barry Bonds. But thats another discussion. And on another note Albert Pujols is the ultimate in TRUTH.

[quote:7dbd5eafc5="MIDDLEGROUND"]racially sosa is black ethnically hes latino/hispanic[/quote:7dbd5eafc5] If Sosa were sitting at 713th he'd be under fire, but the magnitude of the backlash would be considerably smaller. As far as my knowledge goes, Bonds has never tested positive for illegal steroids. If anyone can give me an incident that's more than just hearsay I'd be hard pressed to believe it. We're talking about a man who gradually over the years has slowly built muscle mass. To continue Reach's McGwire argument, look at that dude!!! He went from big to gorilla almost overnight. Ya'll should really read up on Barry, he has an interesting story. What about Sosa?

Even if he had taken steroids at some point. So have a number of other players. And cheating in this sport is more prevalent than in any other. From performance enhancers to doctored balls to fixed games...

Also I must state for the record This supplement sounds a lot like creatine which I dont think creatine *which is sold over the counter* is that big of a deal. Dont get me wrong Im rooting for Bonds to do this. Ive enjoyed watching him play from his Pitt days to with the Giants. Race most definently is an issue in this but I dont think it is THE issue with this. Raphel Palmero who definently ranks in the upper echelon of former ball players stood up and said "I do not take steroids" He is now and forever will be the laughing stock of Baseball. More so than Anthony Young. *if you know who he is* McGwire did his thing and left before all of this was an issue. It sbeen proven that he cheated since. His records will still stand. But I would think that if he were in Bonds shoes today there would be this steroid talk the same way they do Bonds. The man is innocent until proven guilty in my eyes so until he admits to allegations or it is proven in some way Then let the man play and leave him the fuck alone.
