Hey all, new to this site, not new to the game. I run a similar community based around electronic music and dj culture. I wanted to make sure I got this info out to more than just the usual folks I run into on a regular basis and thankfully, I stumbled across your site. First off, if you dont have any plans this Saturday, [b:f63ee8ec05]we are having an Info Session about the academy at Lucky's Brewgrille in KC[/b:f63ee8ec05]. [b:f63ee8ec05]It will run from 1pm-3pm[/b:f63ee8ec05] and we have a couple guest speakers. Dj Sezy, from Philly, attended the academy in Rome 2 years ago and will be sharing her experiences and how she was able to get in. She is also married to Jneiro Jarel who has been working on the lastest Pharcyde album. We will also have Dj Swamp speaking on his life in the business. We might even get him to show us a few tricks on the tables. This is a [b:f63ee8ec05]free[/b:f63ee8ec05] deal, so just bring your imagination and an open mind. Now if you know nothing about the Red Bull Music Academy, you can visit their site[b:f63ee8ec05] (www.redbullmusicacademy.com)[/b:f63ee8ec05] or you can read the post I made on my site below. I hope this reaches some individuals that are wanting to take things to the next level! [i:f63ee8ec05](taken from syde-sho.com)[/i:f63ee8ec05] I wanted to express some very serious thoughts I have on the issue of talent in KC and the opportunity that is presenting itself. I dont know what everyone thinks about me plugging the Red Bull Music Academy, or if any of you know what it's really about. There have been some links posted and info given out, but I thought it would be good to really drop some knowledge on the RBMA. First off, every year they pick 60 people from almost 60 countries to attend 1 of 2 terms they do. A term consists of 30 people that they think will mesh well together from data gathered through the applicaiton drive. It's not always about who's producing the top tracks, or has played the most out of town gigs. Its DJs, producers and musicians they think will have a good chemistry and make for some great collaborative experiences. They break these 60 people down into 2 groups of 30 and send them free of charge to an exotic location to experience something that is difficult to imagine. I will try my best to paint the picture, but you will have to imagine the experince that you can have after hearing what a typical day would be like at the academy. During the day, past participants have attended lectures from people like Alex Rosner, Bob Power, Bernard Purdie, Bob Moog, Carl Craig, Craze, Hank Shocklee, Danny Krivit and that isnt even the tip of the iceburg. They talk about their experiences in the business, production techniques, tell funny stores and answer questions in a very social and comfortable atmosphere. In the afternoon, everyone heads to the studio and decks to produce group tracks and play records. Last year, they even featured alot of these studio sessions and mixsets live on the new RBMA Radio station so those that did got get to attend could still tune in and expeience the magic themselves. You get to learn first hand from the lecturers their tricks and ideas on how to take it to the next level while working side by side with them. At night, grab your record bag or your instrument of choice because its time to play some gigs. Red Bull gets everyone out on the town and into the clubs to perform and expose the locals to your style and what you are about. Lay down some house, techno, broken beat, or even perform out with your peers if you play an insturment. Just one example of the amazing gigs they organize, Cut Chemist was performing with a jazz drummer, bass players and vocalists from the academy at one of the gig nights. I have met several people that have attended the academy over the years, and I cannot even tell you how much they have taken from the experience. They have had a hard time putting it into words themselves. I can tell you that most of them are out doing great things now and are a better musician because of it. Now, let me get down to the nitty gritty. Whether I get 2 people to apply or 50, nothing changes on my end. I don't get anything out of this except the possibility that I might get to help someone have an amazing experience in Australia this year. Yeah, that's right, I said Australia. And did I mention it's free? I just cannot stress enough that the opportunity is so amazing and I can only hope that some of you will take this to heart and actually apply. Commit to filling out the application. It's 14 pages, but I can assure you that just filling out the application will make you think. And, if you cannot commit to several hours of introspective thought, how serious are you about your music? I will be releasing details on the Info Session I will be planning, but if anyone wishes to get together on a personal level to view the DVD Documentary of past sessions, I have one from Cape Town, Rome and last year's from Seattle. I will also have some great CD Roms on hand starting this week, and will be carrying several blank applications Check out their site too, where you can view all the past lectures, download podcasts and get other up to the date info. www.redbullmusicacademy.com

i'd be there in a heartbeat if i was back in town already. they just had a session of this in seattle this past winter and it was a ridiculous amount of amazing parties, lectures, networking opportunities, etc. mad shit going on in multiple locations for about 3 weeks straight. definitely something good to get involved with.
