What follows came via Write on Point views blog on myspace.com hosted and written by Janice. What's you list look like? here's MTV's List Thursday, April 20, 2006 MTV have complied yet another Hip Hop list, but this time name's candidates for the next greatest MC list. I would really like to meet the person who put together this list.... I mean... Camron... Ludacris.. Kanye West..... 50 Cent... I really don't think so!!!! But Talib and Jada definitely get my vote! MTV's List Ludacris: "Bottom line, Cris is the most versatile MC in the rap game. He knows no bounds in his raps." Kanye West: "In five or 10 years, not only will we be talking about 'Ye as one of the best artists on the mic, but his invite to the producers hall of fame will have been signed, sealed and delivered." Lil' Wayne: "After digesting the classic Tha Carter and its superior sequel, a lot of people down bottom and up top really believe Wayne's self-proclaimed status as 'the best rapper alive since the best rapper retired.'" The Game: "Game has been keeping his name out there recently with beef disses, but if he can stay away from feuds, he's absolutely going to be one of the special artists down the road." Beanie Sigel: "He may never give us a huge radio anthem, but that's not what we love Sigel for. He comes with that true grit in his raps." Jadakiss: "He's not going to give you a million different flows, he's not going to change his inflection up (he doesn't need to: he has one of the most recognizable voices out there), but he will keep killing you with words." 50 Cent: "He doesn't make too many friends, but man, does 50 know how to make hit records." TI: "King is proving to be Tip's breakout LP, solidifying the King of the South's top position in all regions." Cam'ron: "Cam himself is entertainment personified, whether it be his outlandish interview quotes, even crazier rap sentences or his swaggering outfits." Talib Kweli: "He's conscious but fly and gets ridiculously busy."

that list is horrible. wouldn't make it hard to say hip-hop is dead. ludacris is definitely more versatile than i like to give him credit for (see the song "hip-hop quotables") KANYE WEST SUCKS AT RAPPING. end of discussion. same with anybody associated with g-unit. lil wayne and t.i. are both kind of idiot savants in my opinion. so they get amnesty, but aren't in a position to be a "best" mc of any generation. cam'ron and the rest of the diplomats are only awesome because they're hilariously terrible. i will pay money for their records just to see what kind of shit they rhyme badly and how many half-assed metaphors they can make. and i think i'm gonna get a diplomats shirt, too. anyway, fuck everybody on this list as far as attributing any legendary status to them. names i'm gonna throw in: godemis, keak da sneak, peedi crakk... i don't know. i think LL's gonna come back this year, personally ;x

Someday all those artists are going to be considered old folks music. I'm gonna be the grandma in the rocking chair popping the word of mouf and college dropout albums on the front porch singing along having a good time.

Luda is sick, point blank period. The rest, super wack! Kanye just tricked everyone. He's a businessman and an extraordinary producer, but yeah, he's pretty much garbage on the mic, although some of his tracks have good subject matter they lack good execution. Take a second and look at his formula, its genius: Signed to Rockafella: Already has the mainstreams attention. Wears a backpack and has songs that the underground heads can relate to: Gives false hope that he is some sort of prophet trying to bring real hiphop back to the forefront. Produces Commons Album: Keeps his credibility as being "down for the cause". Calls Dame Dash and himself "Assholes", and talks about how he would never give your demo a chance: Oh so the truth comes out! This was the point when I realized I had been tricked.

Speaking of folk......Hip Hop is the Folk music of this generation imo. Anyway that list is pretty damn weak...Where are the pioneers? The guys that set the tone for the diversity of today.

I threw that shit out my car window. With the exceptions of Luda, Talib and T.I. I think this list is wack! I do like Young Buck from G-unit though.

I agree with most errrr-body on this, but.... ...I mean, ya'll sound surprised that MTV would plug their regular rotations as the best out there. The list should be called "highest grossing rap artists for MTV". Thats it. None of these artists would be on the list if they weren't grossing millions of dollars for some corporate entity. Its not a recognition of skill, its a recognition of who can sell themselves the best to this station's viewing public. And, to run down the line, Luda used to be sick as fuck. Started selling crazy records and now sucks. Kanye's raps suck, but his beats are incredible, I like his hooks, and Talib wouldn't be in near as heavy rotation right now if it weren't for him. Same for Common, though he's not on the list. For whatever reason, I kind of like Lil Wayne and Jada. But, Everybody else is trash, their music on the radio is trash, and their videos on MTV are...c'mon everybody, say it with me....TRASSSSSHHHHHHHH!!!! All I'm sayin, don't take anything MTV would classify with any degree of seriousness. They prey off hiphop and its marketability. They contribute nothing to it, except the inspired interest of millions of teens who know nothing about the history of the culture, who started it, who pioneered its evolution, and especially who's styles these front-men are biting the shit out of and making millions off of. I've been on an unofficial boycott of MTV for probably close to a decade...you know, unless its late, I'm feelin stressed and feel these booty-shaking ladies could help me out...HAHAHAHA. Lol...

Yeah I just noticed the "next"........Sage Franics is real badass from delivery to lyrics....He is too much of a rebell to make that list though since his music tends to be postive when it comes to overall subject matter and that is a no no these days.

damn...im gettin tired of seeing cats trash kanye--yea,hes not all super scientifical abstract poetic and shit, but so what--the dude spits rhymes that mad people can relate to,is nearly the only hip hop artist that's in the mainstream that touches on some real topics and issues.hes got some dope wordplay and rhyme structure, and honestly no ones ever had a delivery like this cat.hes payed mad dues too.and did i mention hes pretty ill on the beats?im in no way saying hes one of the best ever, just tired of seeing people completely dismiss him.no disrespect but thats just some bullshit.....1

Oh yep, I forgot to add that I like T.I. his latest single what you know about that is a lot of fun. Kanye is the shit, he can rap well. He spit the track through the wire with his jaw wired shut. honostly everyone of the artists on that list have at least one song that I like. To me it just seems like people are uptight and unwilling to have fun with it and that their standards are just too high or something.
  17. Apr 22, 2006 02:50am by phism
i sorta posted a list. but i didn't think about it too hard. most of those artists have a song that i like too, but nto enough to be considered "the next greatest"... kanye is a fresh producer but he's not exactly going to be a king mc any time soon. if anything, twista's already got him beat for chi-town, but i don't know if that counts as "next" either (po pimpin?). ludacris is the best one on there in my opinion, but he's easy to get sick of too. and i don't listen to beanie sigel enough but he doesn't seem too bad. i really haven't actually heard anybody straight up kill a mic in a while. everything i can think of is at least 4 years old. some of the mc's on stones throw are pretty good. i've heard a dope saigon verse here and there, but nothing spectacular. i think i might like cool calm pete but he's too easy to not pay attention to. some british mc's aren't bad... i think so solid has some fresh mc's. if pitbull ever said anything interesting he'd probably be good. like i said, i'm watching peedi crakk... don't know yet though. blah blah. i don't know. i guess this is a good thread for finding the best shit, because i'm looking.

sorry dog...but thats an ill verse....dude is in no fucking way the best rapper in the game, thats ridiculous, and i think even he knows that.hes trying to sell records..i dont honestly think he could listen to a nas or saigon or even a kanye verse and a million other cats and in his heart really think hes the best alive.but he did step up alot, and hes gotten tight.whats wrong with some cuss words, its just words ya know?and this verse is a perfect example of a cat having at least two distinct sides to his personality.and in my eyes hes not really glorifying anything negative, because hes talking a little about the consequences and guilt from those actions.not to mention the rhyme structues just pretty sick, honestly,ha ha...respect your opinion, but this is the life this kid comes from, and hes trying to make something positive out of it(now at least,im not talking bling bling little wayne)--hes keeping shit gutter and i think giving kids some shit to think about at the same time, more power to him.just my 2 cents.peace

Lil Wayne [i:ad3a6dc792]may[/i:ad3a6dc792] be trying to turn a negative into a positive, but he's still referring to these actions in a condoning sense. When a lot of kids listen to messages like this they may not get past the "hit a nigga 20 times" and delve deeper into the meaning...mainly because he's bigging up the violent part. Feel me? He is getting better I'd say, I'm glad he's not talking about the bling anymore... i've pretty much only heard a few lil wayne songs, but hustler musik is a good enough song for me to give the others a chance. for a pretty obviously misogynistic sex song, "feel like fuckin somethin" is pretty interesting. i don't know, some songs are accidentally a little deeper than they intend to be. for example, i think the hook on nore's "nothin" is pretty fucking potent, without really meaning to be.

I wouldn't buy a Lil Wayne album. Just my personal taste. But, I do think he's sick with the wordplay. Dude's got skills for sure, and I never mind catching a verse of his. But I'd never bump it in my whip. Getting back to the point of this thread, I have my favorite rappers, and I hope they never blow up. One's music content has to shift to be what mainstream wants. Any artists that were my favorite, and then blew up, I just didn't like what their music became. God bless the underground and the creativity it generates. No more/no less crap and bullshit than you'll find on the surface. Skills are sharper, cats are hungry, music's more potent and creative. And, the same cats I didn't like after they blew up, they deserved the success they got. But they lost that fire.

There is NO questioning that his style and patterning have been stepped up, but correct me if im wrong, the bulk of his fanbase are young and impressionable, and by that rationale, if they are young, they are most likely not that mentally mature, or fully educated, therfore "hit a nigga 20 times" to most of them is "yea thats right man,I would "hit a nigga 20 times", if he was fucking with me" You see em all the time, at the mall by foot locker, on the block, they look young and mad at the world, I catch foul looks from these young gangster types, and think wow, they feel the need to give me a stare, ME, I look about as threatening as the skinny guy from that show "Whos line is it anyway" my point is that these type of songs, in my opinion, fuel fires that are already burning fine off of the strength of other problems in these younger peoples lives, be it living conditions, financial, or just feeeling like an outcast. That being said, Im not talking about censoring these songs as I believe in FREEDOM OF SPEECH, straight up, FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION, straight up, I just think that now that Lil Wayne isnt poor, and doesnt have to live in a bad enviorment, he CAN let it go, its like that group the DEFTONES (an alt rock type band) the lead singers like 30 and still sings about teen angst, gimme a break, Lil Wayne has evolved in style, evolved in patterning and his confidence is at an all time high, well ,he can go ahead and and let bygones be bygones, I got the picture painted many tracks ago, about his "gangsta street cred" I do have to say that the last lyrics posted by STIK made me think, and were dope, I just dont think he needs to purpetuate violence in our youth, their mad enough and to a degree, have every reason to be, Im just tired of irresponsible flame fanners, and that goes for sex, and violence. Just two cents from someone whos been poor, been mad, and been raised in a bad area(albeit not as bad as some,29th and troost), I let it go, and am thankful I am no longer in those conditions and no longer feel the need to be "hard". Peace-
