On the 1st of May the movie One Day Without Mexicans will become
reality:
In the whole USA no migrant will work on this day. The migrants have
solicited people in the USA and other persons with a global
consciousness not to buy any US-American product this day.
With this boycott the migrants insist in the recognition of their right
to work, education for their children and health care in this land.
They solicit neither to buy any products from gringolandia this day,
nor consume anything from US-American franchise companies.
This means:
no Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks, Sears, Crispy Cream, Walmart, and others from the infinite list of US-American enterprises in the world.
Please send this information to all your friends and support the
boycott onthe 1st of May. Against racism and the politics of the Nation states!
I found this on myspace, posted by a friend of mine supergirlest. please copy, paste and email everyone you know lets support this effort to have even the smallest rights for migrant workers.
peace

please post it here when you are ready S.G.
I will be honoring this day. it reminds me of the start of the bus boycott.
folks just didn't ride the bus, they organize folks cars into a delivery system and some folks just walked. By comparison, how hard is it to forego that latte, big mac with cheese, or that shopping spree at walmart?
I will post your beat on hiphopkc's myspace site as well.
thanks for sharing yoself with us.

i kind of don't trust internet organizing. grassroots local organizing to coordinate a successful local event (considering a lot of people may not have the internet or computers) might get more national attention in the end.
as opposed to about 10 people in each city.
what about non-mexican immigrants?

its really about personal choice once you are exposed to the information phism. particpate if you wanna support their efforts, don't if you ain't feelin it.
sounds like you might not do it cause you dont' trust this kind of thing.
everybody does what feels right to them. no problem.
that's the big thing about global movements, everybody doesn't have to participate and yet the message gets across because, i'm guessin corps watch daily totals and they get to see the dip in worldwide sales.
do they care? who knows really

i just think more people are more likely to participate if you show up at their door with a flyer than if you put it on a myspace bulletin.
especially if they're poor.

Yo, here in Austin the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been raiding bussinesses thought to employ illegal immigrants. Many have been detained and are soon to be deported. They are splitting up families and deporting people who in some cases have lived and worked here for up to 20 years. It's fucked up and may be happening soon in KC. Immigrants have certain rights regardless of their legal status when dealing with ICE or other immigration officials. Distribute this information widely:
English:
If you are an undocumented immigrant and ICE (la
migra) comes to detain you, you DO HAVE RIGHTS (see
below for Spanish):
-you have the right to remain silent
-the only information you must give them is your name,
but NOT your country of origin or legal status
-do NOT SIGN ANYTHING (they will not tell you that you
have the right NOT to sign, but you do, so DO NOT SIGN
ANYTHING and DO NOT LET THEM TAKE YOUR FINGERPRINTS)
-you have the right to make a phone call (you should
call your attorney -if you don't have one, you can
call PAPA, a free legal services provider, ph.
512-478-0546, and try all the extensions to request
help and references-, or you should call your
consulate)
PS - the information about PAPA is for those in Austin, Texas. KC probably has similar services...post them if you know of any
Espanol:
NO

For those interested in this subject, I invite you to check out this post from The Corner about Maria Rodriguez. She is an undocumented worker who was fired along with 21 of her coworkers after attending the April 10 march for immigrants' rights in Tyler, Texas.
