[b:b6371d1751]Demencha Magazine LLC[/b:b6371d1751] is happy to announce the new issue! The fall/winter 2010 issue will be available the first week of December at [b:b6371d1751]Streetside Records in Westport, Prospero’s Books on 39th, Poptopia in Westport, 7th Heaven on Troost, 7th Heaven in Blue Springs[/b:b6371d1751], and any music events I can personally make it out to as Editor-in-Chief.
[b:b6371d1751]The Floozies[/b:b6371d1751], originally from KCK, and [b:b6371d1751]Nesto The Owner[/b:b6371d1751], originally from Philly, make up our dual covers this time around. The Floozies, known for their live-looping, improvised, jamtronica beats have wrecked festivals all over the Midwest and you can catch them on New Year’s Eve at the Bottleneck in Lawrence where they’ll unveil their first recorded studio album. Nesto The Owner, whose “Man In My City†from this past summer stands out as one of the most important hip hop singles to come out of KC in some time, is also gearing up to release a new album, [i:b6371d1751]Manimal[/i:b6371d1751].
One of our newer writers, A:42, scribed a review over [b:b6371d1751]The Grisly Hand[/b:b6371d1751]‘s new record, an interview with a couple of the guys over at [b:b6371d1751]KCDIY[/b:b6371d1751] and went inside the depths of the Cauldron at KC Wizards games to bring you back a story that only he could tell with such humor. Long-time contributing writer, Phil Torpey (Hearts of Darkness cover story, Reggie B cover story & Gear + Scribe cover story) returns to us, giving the skinny on [b:b6371d1751]Reggie B[/b:b6371d1751]’s fantastic new full-length, [i:b6371d1751]The Traveler[/i:b6371d1751]. Patrick Binder ([url]http://www.pbinderphotography.com[/url]) submitted some great photos of recent DJ happenings from the likes of the [b:b6371d1751]Rusko[/b:b6371d1751] show at Mosaic, [b:b6371d1751]DJ Craze, DJ Klever, Brent Tactic & DJ Konsept[/b:b6371d1751], among others.
This is surely the most diverse issue we’ve released thusfar, as we delve further into local band/rock coverage in addition to putting on for local hip hop and DJ acts which we’ve become known for. We’re trying to shake the “hip hop zine†stigma that’s surrounded Demencha for the previous two years we’ve been in print. With the face of KC’s dance scene changing in 2010, and the plethora of bands in our “Paris of the Plains,†you can count on each issue’s content becoming more well-rounded from here on out.
