Topic: the missing Godemis, Joe Good and Big Frame album (Qui Lo)

[b:174349f941]Qui Lo[/b:174349f941] was a local hip hop group in the mid-late 90’s consisting of [b:174349f941]Godemis[/b:174349f941] (currently of Ces Cru), Joe Good (who back then went by “Dr. Whoâ€), and [b:174349f941]Big Frame[/b:174349f941] (currently of Tru Spittaz Click). The three of them recorded this album, “The Enemy,†but never officially released it, when they were all about 18-19 years old, from what I’m told by Frame.
It’s been a long time coming for me to finally post this album (zipped up below). Frame gave me the CD after I talked to him at James Christos’ video shoot last summer at [b:174349f941]7th Heaven[/b:174349f941], after I bugged him enough about it. Apparently, he had all the tracks sitting on his hard drive for a looooooong time.
Dr. Who actually produced most, if not all the tracks on this record. Godemis’ “out-rap-a-muthafucka†style was in it’s infancy and Frame too, was just getting his feet wet with recording hip hop music. But where are they now? Godemis remains one of the nicest MCs in the city. Frame has turned out to be one of the better hip hop producers in town. However, if you find Joe Good’s facebook page and look at his pictures, it’s apparent that he’s currently in family-man mode.
This is a piece of local hip hop history. And I hope that you guys and gals enjoy this. This isn’t by any means a great record, but it’s definitely fun to listen through and have as a keepsake on your hard drive.

so glad this music is seeing the light of day. back in the day, you may remember a local label "no coast records" there's a story
this was recorded at tom Woosley's studio, jaz was there every step of the way before durng and you know what's he's doing these days (64111 studios) there's a story here
this group was born out of love for each other and hip hop and so far is lasting a life time. there's a hugh story here beginning with the lunch room cyphers at paseo
The missing member is the stealthy Artikal (known as sleep /mike) 4 those who really know the early days of the clinic. endless days of writing producing drawing, designing, breaking down my stereo to create make shift booths in tubes, closets and hallways. it to this day, Is one of my charished memories of my sons and their tribe of friends. all this was upstairs. . . . . . .
while downstairs was my mom's (sandy brown of the soundsgood song on the pacin maxi ep's Ms. Brown song) last jazz band b4 her death in 2001), Paradox an all woman ensemble practicing for hours while the guys were upstairs banging out beats and lyrics stuff in the south corner room ( the original 1st clinic)
Me: in my chair or on the landing between the 2 floors listening or rockin them pots and pans to feed that tribe some evening. it was such a joy to be the one who got to float throughsoak up/ all this creativity.
you know where it lead. You've enjoyed them all for years!
also a one night play at just off broadway theatre called" Jazz to HipHop"

this story has years of stories, like so many other local artists' beginning infact like ALL artists' beginnings around the world.

I was talking with Rockwell earlier tonight and he was saying that there were a lot of other people in Qui Lo, other than the three I mentioned.
Hopefully Frame will be tweeting about this for a few days lol!!

NO there were NOT a lot of other people in Qui Lo. Qui Lo was officially, Frame, Doctor Who, Godemis, and Sleep, Doctor Who and Frame did beats and Jaz recorded ALL early versions of what this album became.
YES there were ALOT of people in and out of THE 64111 CLINIC, aka jamal's bedroom because any body who wanted to hone their skills was welcome and the cast of characters was endless and free flowing. In fact
Wayne/determental, Travione/gunn jakc, are very much part of this friendship tribe. I met general aka Kutty at my home for the first time.
there are as I said lots of stories involved here.
the core group of friends who formed Qui Lo came together around being in school together and expanded through the natural process of the word of mouth getting around that these guys were up to something at this location meaning the clinic.
I am a history stickler Chris, partly because I know how easy it is to lose the truth of what happened, ie being there is not the same thing as creating or growing/owning a thing.
this story is a part of my family's history so I will do what I can correct it and keep it intact and whole. the creation of hiphopkc.com and it's predecessor the www.64111clinic.com site are a part of our history too as they report some periods in the continuum of our history.
because you are a journalist chris I know you understand where I am coming from.

In my opinion (yes i am biased) is and way ahead of its time and showed the grit of these guys long time ago. this album represents years of honing skills, getting to know/seeking out their "big brothers" for support and knowledge and participating in growing "the scene"
I guess you can tell I am very proud of them to this day. I had a ball watching this progression of talent / skills. In fact, it is jamal and jaz's willingness to educate, encourage, and include me that fostered my love of hiphop culture and OUR local growth.

Sike has a VHS video of them opening for MOP that I saw years and years ago. May have disappeared by now, but who knows?

I remember hearing some of these songs WAY back in the day but never heard the project in it's entirety. Godemis never had a full copy for me to STEAL! It reminds me of calling Joe Good and asking for bass samples because the drum machine that I was borrowing from Kid Called Computer had bass but I couldn't play it out back then. I remember going to The Clinic and GNRL ALI was holding court trying to get everyone motivated. Jack Frost (Gunn Jakc) used to take me over there to hang out and shoot the shit every blue moon. Good times! I also remember the M.O.P. show where Qui Lo opened and it was FRESH! Billy Danze punched me in the arm!
Thanks for putting this up. I listened to it from start to finish while I was cleaning my place. The fellas were so raw back then. Rapping for expression, battling and community.
Wasn't Godemis living at The Clinic when this was being made? I could be mistaken but I think that he was.
