Over the years I've heard people say that they can't create art. Some musicians can't create visual art and some visual artists can't put sounds together to make music (my official new title, JDFlow: Sound Arranger Extrordinaire lol). A lot of people can't do either. My first thought: What gives an artist of either media the ability of expression? Is it natural, or is it something you tap into? My second thought: Was what does it take to step your art into the business realm. I think maybe that's obvious though. An artist should be a great businessman. All it takes is a little creativity. So I guess the first question is what I've really always wonder. You think about finger painting in school. The teachers could probably see who had the ability of expression early on.

I think its natural, therefore it's not really an ability. In my opinion, expression in itself, regardless of the outlet, is art. Its deeper than just rapping or drawing, art is the way you move, the way you speak, how you sit...everything! Its the very nature of one self, which is very hard to find but beautiful once discovered.
The issue on the business end is how many others are gonna see your natural expression as art. How many people are gonna judge wheter its truthfully art or not? What are the guidlines that even determines if its art? Regardless of my opinion of a persons art, I respect anyone has the nerve to present it to the world..through whatever outlet..and try to get paid off it. Truthfully you are saying you believe you have something that no one else does & Im going to tell you what its worth!! Crazy when you look at it like that but its true. Part of a handful of reasons why I have never dropped an album and if..when I do, will I ask for money?

When I say art I mean what's widely accepted as art. Music, film, painting, drawing, etc.
It's good to recoup costs on an album. It don't see the negative side to getting paid for your time. I was thinking more along the lines of all the artists out there making a living on thier work. Everyone usually agrees that some of the illest artists stay local to thier area. Some only share thier work within close circles. What seperates them from the people who want to spread thier creations? I guess everyone has thier own reasons though.
