    Despite being someone who is open minded.. i cant think of any way this can be described as anything but racist rather than a respetable intellectual social critique. As of my current understanding of this cartoon, the writer seems to be pretty unaware of his prejudice.

    Yeah, there's really no excuse. Even though Pelosi, not Obama, wrote the bill you'd think the editorial staff would take a step back and see how inappropriate this is. We're not only a nation of cowards, but a nation of people who's parents and grandparents watched black people brutalized in a normal fashion. Electing a black man to the highest office doesn't heal that pain and put us all back to zero. Obama's presidency is a huge step, but it's not an answer to our problems. There is no answer. In time all of the survivors with those old images burnt in thier minds will slowly die out, but the history is written. There's no taking it back. The best we can do is to try to live together peacefully and treat each other with simple [b:ccb36637fb]respect[/b:ccb36637fb]. White people don't want to be called racists and black people don't want to be called monkeys.

    Yep... Just like Vogue couldn't see the similarities between the Lebron cover and the King Kong insignia from yesteryear. *Yawn* The cartoonist has done racially insensitive images in the past. They can sell those magic beans to someone else. Sorry, no pass. Own up to it, apologize and let's move on. To give these God awful excuses to justify having run it is ridiculous.

I'm not personally one of his supporters. I think given what we know he's at least partly culpable. But I'm reserving judgment until more is known about what happened.
