i don't think it really matters.
maybe it's because hip-hoppers use aliases more often, so people are more interested in their real names. i don't really care to know bob dylan or sting's real names because... they chose an alias for a different reason. they want to be known as that for like... marketing reasons and whatnot. with hip-hop it's more of a cultural practice... there are plenty of cultures where people are given names or choose names later in life... so i guess it's more interesting to me that almost everyone in hip-hop has to come up with a name (or fall into one, or however it comes about). which makes it, by default, slightly more interesting what their name was previously.
and from a journalism perspective, whoever's in charge of hip-hop articles probably just gets used to being like "okay, their stage name is _____, let's look thorough and tell everyone what their real name is." other musicians with stage names, the author probably forgets to even include that step sometimes.
