Topic: HHKC.COM --> Word on the Street!

Here me out? I’d appreciate it. Ideally, I’d like to turn that broken down building viewable from I-35 South with the windows busted out into a HHKC volunteer center. You know which one I’m talking about? It’s decorated with some tags of black a red, blue, and some white throw-ups. The most recent one is very visible. I’ve only seen him before in the Westport area. Anyways, the building is killer. Realistically of course, I don’t have the money to purchase, let alone fix it up for a non-profit organization. “Baby steps,” I tell myself. Since my musical talent is extremely…non-existent, I was trying to think of a way to at least get some of this concept off the ground and build. I want to get involved in the community at what I do best: visual art, communication, and amateur writing. I’ve read a few books that have turned the light bulb back on and I figured, “Why the hell not?” HHKC is amazing. I haven’t been here long, but I adore the concept and have met some new kids in the area. I’d like to get more involved by putting this concept to the streets. Hip Hop for the people. Short enough for people to read, but hyped enough to get information and community involved. All of us actually: -Interviews of local Artists -Hip Hop Culture -Events -Art -Kids -Volunteer Opps -Free Ads -Public opinions -Graffiti -Contests -Comics, Graphic Arts -Fliers -Stickers -And any other sections to add by you all! I would take care of printing and putting everything together, mail, costs, everything. I’ve always wanted to create a newsletter that reaches the people as well as connecting me to others with similar feelings and thoughts, even arguments! I remember making several “zines” in grade school and distributing them on my street. I’ve never wanted to be a journalist, but I dig writing. I despised the school newspaper staff and stayed clear. I haven’t decided what I want to be when I grow up. In school I slack and end up researching my own topics of interest than what the curriculum requires. I’m not lazy; I just want to know things. I have to admit. William Upski Wimsatt inspired me to put this out there. He’s the author of Bomb The Suburbs and No More Prisons. I love how he puts issues in perspective. So while I took my morning run, I thought. This is what I can do at this moment to get the word out there and touch kids, parents, teens whoever with the Kansas City Hip Hop scene. Major props to all the talented. In a nutshell, it’s aspects of this site…compacted into a local, low budget newsletter for those who may not be computer savvy, not have one, or would prefer reading the newspaper rather than typing a url or clicking the remote. What can I say? I'm old fashion. I hate computer screens after too long. The enviornmental issue.. recycle of course. I'm curious: Who would interview for this newsletter? Who would want an ad in it? Who would pass it out? Who would talk it up? Who would write a column? Who would do graphics? Who would perform a show? Anyone game? I'd be interested to know of any committed individuals who would like to put their mark on it. You do not have participate in every issue. Just volunteer what you think fits with your schedule. Monthly is my goal. Free is the price. All of you can advertise for anything related to the newsletter. No charge. I want to help you get your words out there too.    Delight, I am gonna email you the stuff I put out almost a year ago for a non profit organization I plan on building. Hooray for you. I love your spirit and drive. as far as other magazines, there can be more than one. it sounds like the area of focus you want to promote would be a welcoming energy to the community at large. GO FOR IT! I SAY I would love to sit over a meal, listen to your thoughts, maybe help you get them on paper if that could be of help and give it back to you in the form of a plan you could baby step from. wow I am excited! private message me your email addy so I can send you the plan I have written and let's sit eat and dream. peace nrg ps there is no reason you can't write an article of interests for demencha mag as well as do your own thing. the two mags focuses are not the same. you duplicated thoughts. also contact Loyfiah about the hiphop Academy of greater Kansas City to see if you can get involved with what they are doing with local kids in the by n by while you gather your thoughts and do your baby steps sorta like apprenticing towards something you wanna do yourself.

    I could possibly write a column or do interviews or anything of that nature. I'm pretty open to anything. Although, it would be alot easier once I move downtown, rather than where I'm at now. This sounds like a great idea!

    I'm not even sure what type of column. I really think it depends on getting a feel for the city, people, shows and such before I make a decision on it. I like to think things over. And I'm moving basically a block or two from the midtown theater, if you know where that is.

    Alright kids. I'm looking for visual artists willing to submit, poetry and such, columns written on an issue you're passionate about that we struggle with today, interviews, whatever you feel to get out there. Hit me with a PM here to let me know. First issue is out July 1st. Deadline is a week prior. Thanks to all those interested in helping out.
