I just listened to it, and I gotta say that it's the best instrumental CD ive heard since "Donuts"....
no joke. FLYLO has the most watery sounding/organic production i've heard EVER in hip hop

people say that a lot but as was mentioned in the other dilla post, any body who is good gets accused of biting Dilla in some way.
In my opinion Dilla and Flylo are nothing alike.
Dilla is more sample driven I think. Flylo is like ... on some ....man.... synthesizer /dynamic range compression/atari 2600 madness! Very "watery" if you ask me.

Nujabes is hecka tight! If you haven't picked up "Metaphorical Music" ... you need to.
Yeah 1983 is weird, it's like personification of the effects of PCP combined onto a CD. It's weird but freaking tight.
Check out his "Reset EP" too. That sh!t is NUTZ!!!!!

yeah i have metaphorical music, and all his tracks on the samurai champloo soundtracks. i'm a big japanese producer fan, so i have alot of stuff by him, nomak, shing02, dj deckstream, shin-ski etc etc

I could quickly name a dozen producers equally as skilled who are not cloning Dilla's sound. Their level of success is not a factor in determining whether or not they're cut from the Dilla mold.
FlyLo is absolutely cloning Dilla's sound.
Does that mean that he has no artistic merit of his own? Absolutely not.
You can't tell me that the first song in his Myspace XML player DOESN'T sound like something Dilla might've done though. That's being disingenuous.

That song "my chippy" has too many synths for Dilla. Even during his "J dilla" period (01-06) I don't recall ever hearing a Dilla beat have that many synths (or at least have the synths take up more that 75% percent of the beat).
But the drums.... I give it to you on the drums. They were dilla-esque. But as far as everything else in the beat, no comparison.

Don't get me wrong, Dilla gets down on the synths but I think he was more subtle about it.
I don't know I think when it comes to who he sounds like, I guess I would say a mix between like Dilla (the drums) / Lenny D (the juiciness) / and Diplo (synths).
for the sake of convo.
Black milk on the other hand, if theres anybody to be accused of Dilla Dipping it would prolly be him. I don't really blame him though.

Eerily similar.
FlyLo's entire compositions smack of Dilla in my humble opinion.
The sequences, the drum sounds, the phaser/flanger usage, the bass tones...

FlyLo is one thing but Black...... Im not quick to call anybody a dilla biter but in this case....yes....BM is the number one suspect.
