Topic: KC Hip Hop @ SXSW

KC hip hop is gonna be fairly well-represented at SXSW in Austin this year with performances by Mac Lethal, Tech N9ne, Kutt Calhoun and several others. I interviewed Matt Sonzala, the guy who does all the hip-hop booking for SXSW, to talk about the 2008 lineup. TF: I'm from the Kansas City area - Lawrence, actually - so I was pleased to see KC is well represented this year with Mac Lethal, Tech N9ne, Kutt Calhoun and some others.
Sonzala: Yeah, all those dudes. Tech N9ne's coming down because he's got new stuff coming out this year and he's got a tour with Paul Wall right after SXSW. I told him bring your artists, bring your label because this is what it is all about - expose the new artists. If they're gonna come to see you we'll put those other artists on right before you and get them some exposure too. So he's bringing his whole Strange Music family and I put Mac Lethal on that same show because he requested to be on there with them. I'm excited about it - Kansas City's got a crazy rap scene that is underexposed.

The Pimp C tribute with Bun B and the whole UGK fam is gonna be wild. Also, I'm curious to see Ice Cube though I don't know if he'll be doing his old gangsta classics after starring in "Are We There Yet?" We'll see. I'm definitely also hype to see Ohmegga Watts, Camp Lo, A-Alikes, Aloe Blacc, Marcelo D2 and a few others.
