Topic: MPC-Forums producer jacked by Kanye?

  1. May 21, 2007 05:18pm by Deta!L - I just said that so you would stop bothering me.
that's what the word is... first, Jacpots video on youtube most of us on MPC Forums have seen before, sitting at close to 25,000 views http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiT_90aTneI next, Kanyes joint with Common "black maybe" http://www.sendspace.com/file/8k2ghb what do you think?

on the real that beat doesn't even sound the same. They used the same sample....big whoop wanna fight about it?

There are some similarities, yes, but probably not enough for him to lay any claim that Ye stole the idea from him. Kanye has been accused in the past, and more importantly, has taken credit for beats he didn't do so I wouldn't put it past him.

I don't think so either...but I will fight you Atilla when I get back to Kansas so rent the latest Rocky movie and start training

For real, I've made beats and even written rhymes that I'll hear later used in almost the same fashion by someone else.

I hate that ish. I got mad samples that I've heard done. but I flip it so Its mine. People act like, Ohh somebody else sampled that so I cant bust it, but emcees don't seem to care. I think it all depends on the style and how you excute it. Its like when you hear somebody ryhme over somebody elses beat, and the track is already fresh, and they makes it hotter.

I think it's funny that people flip samples without clearing them and then act like they own the freakin loop.

i love to sample other shit people have used. I used to be a stuck up elite producer that would never flip anything i had heard before, but who cares. Don't get me wrong, i love to dig, but that shit is fun sometimes.

Rememer how he was crying about his sh*t was John Blaze. Then he was ryhming over beats that weren't even his. I thought he was a cool cat at the begginging. But now personally I think his Mary J. Blige production is the best. But he had to get Dr. Dre to help him do soe of that.

I mean it is quite possible that he or one of his ghost producers watched the video and went and got the sample and redid it.....but that's just how it goes, even if he cleared the sample kanye could still use it.... either way I thought it was cool

okay, kanye is certainly no "faggot" however to even give him "mediocre" emcee status is WAAAAYY too generous. don't get it twisted. dude is sub-sub-par. but what he lacks in lyrical skill he makes up for in swagger. kind of like clipse or cam'ron... 😮 ...braces for impact of flames.

Albums like Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, Illmatic, Ready to Die, Paid in Full, The Chronic, ect. all are classics. Maybe saying his lyrics were wack was a bit much but sub-par is a good word or even inconsistant is a good word. He came correct on that song CLASSIC with the legends. At times he just says dumb stuff that reminds me of cam'ron or something i'll try to find you a few examples.

atilla. he's never uttered a phrase that even attempts to make one think. let alone hit rewind. un-inspired is the best description i could apply to his lyrics. watered down also applies. he's listenable though, due to his loosely timed delivery style (a.k.a. -swagger)

[quote:0ea7a1f79e="Whatsgood"] Its a combination of many things from lyrical content to production to replay value. How bout you?[/quote:0ea7a1f79e] Replayability, impact, influence, lyrical content, creativity, originality... I think this album was both influential on artists who began to experiment with similar phrasing and production styles. TCD was both commercially viable (multi-platinum) & critically acclaimed. That's a difficult tandem to come by. The subject matter was innovative. His self-deprecating brand of Rap music is the antithesis of most of what comprises Top 40 radio. "Through The Wire" is as creative as any record I've heard over the last 10 years. He did a Rap record with his mouth wired shut... He satirized well-established Rap cliches. The album was visceral. "Two Words", "Never Let Me Down" and "Jesus Walks" are all memorable. And on top of all of the heartfelt material he was able to find success on the charts with a few well placed singles that ushered his listernership straight to the dancefloor. With content that wouldn't normally be conducive to radio. Put all of that together and I think you have a classic album.

Kanye's not the shit. He's got his moments. He makes good songs, and the ones I like I think are excellent, some of my favorites of the last five years. But he's no where near classic to me. Qwel has his moments too. But his rhyme skills don't balance out his overblown ego. And yeah, his live performance is bad. He has some of the sickest lines I've ever heard, but I've never seen an emcee so consistently run out of breath. His head looks like an over-inflated balloon about to burst. He forgets his own lines, gets too drunk or high to spit, and is generally inarticulate and pretty much an asshole in person. Such a shame, cause some of his songs are pure genius.

Just my opinion.. no matter what, hes not a faggot.

It seems everyone is trying to make records now, and a good majority of them are one-dimensional rip off's that lack passion and creativity. Because someone decides to sing a hook rather than speak it, it's fruity?! Wow. Some of the most refreshing stuff I've heard lately is coming from cats who aren't trying to fit into a particular genre and are making music that means something to them and that speaks to a larger audience...ie: (Sa Ra, Emanon, IN crew, Sound In Color releases, etc)

I can dig it. I think the song would've been solid either way, but Adam Levine added another dimension to that record. And I'm not overly quick to anoint something as quality Rap music simply because Corporate Radio stinks. I know how to turn it off. And find the music I really want. So for me... It's just my real feeling. Kanye's a different type of Rap cat. No, he's not going to smack you over your head with dazzling mechanics. That's not his bag. He's more about flow, style, presence (or as some call it, swagger) and content.

And the hardest part one could argue with. "We Don't Care", "Jesus Walks", "All Falls Down", "Spaceship", "Never Let Me Down", "Heard 'Em Say", "Touch The Sky", "Crack Music", "Roses", "We Major", "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" (Remix), "We Major"... If Kanye has any redeeming qualities... Content is definitely the most admirable one. At least in my book. That and the fact that he lends credibility to artists who deserve more commercial viability than they've been given (ie. Kweli, Common). Call him 'The Great Equalizer'.

reach, regardless of how many social or political topics he addresses, it dosen't change the fact that he does so a very generic, cliche, "i'm only concious cause it gets me laid" type fashion. to me, he doesn't ever come off as sincere with anything he says, it's almost as if a publicist is in his ear telling him what subjects to address in order to maintain his rapidly diminishing backpacker demographic. he's also constantly contradicting himself. for starters you can't put yourself out there as if you're opposed to blood diamonds and the evils of the world diamond-trade market only to have fat carats in your ears and around your neck at almost all times like it's nothing. i like the man's style but he makes me laugh sometimes. at least i can't say he dosen't try hard.

Whatsgood, I agree that people have a tendency to act like anything that is different is good, I hate that, I mean the only thing worse than shitty hip-hop (i.e. Jeezy) is people who replicate shitty hip-hop (i.e. half the local acts like slopp the gambla) but a definite second is hip-hop that is actually different but sucks nuts lol. But man, you are definetly looking at it the wrong way, I'm a Kanye fan but I didn't think Heard 'Em Say was his hottest track, but it didn't have nothing to do with it having a sung chorus or being pussy, it was just not that hot of a track. 1Sh1Da

A large portion of his material is reflective and introspective of his own life's trials and tribulations. That's an admirable quality. To be vulnerable in that way. In fact, I happen to think he's more meditative of his own experiences than is Kweli or Common for that matter (two artists I happen to like MORE than Kanye). It takes a lot of courage to be an open book in a genre that doesn't exactly deal in real life experience...at least not in the arena that major record labels are playing in. Boots gets laid just like the next Rap act. I don't know him personally to make such a distinction as to why he's chosen this particular brand of Rap music. I can say this though... If it isn't truly heartfelt I'd be almost scared to hear music from him that was. [quote:98b1d6933f]to me, he doesn't ever come off as sincere with anything he says, it's almost as if a publicist is in his ear telling him what subjects to address in order to maintain his rapidly diminishing backpacker demographic.[/quote:98b1d6933f] I disagree. I think Kanye stands smack in the middle of the great Rap divide. If he only appealed to nerds like myself I doubt entirely that he would be as commercially viable. No... He's been able to transcend and shed traditional labels and find a nice soft spot somewhere in the middle. Where Common and Talib (superior artists mind you) may have failed. Otherwise, how could he lend credibility to those artists? The biggest threat to Kanye's street credibility is his attire. Now that, I'll offer no argument for... He's a special type of cat in that regard. [quote:98b1d6933f]he's also constantly contradicting himself.[/quote:98b1d6933f] As we all do. I can't fault him for being flawed. Remember, Pac was one of the most conflicted artists in the history of our beloved genre. And frankly, I think those glaring contradictions solidified his legacy (in a weird way). [quote:98b1d6933f]for starters you can't put yourself out there as if you're opposed to blood diamonds and the evils of the world diamond-trade market only to have fat carats in your ears and around your neck at almost all times like it's nothing.[/quote:98b1d6933f] That's what makes him special though Drew. He addressed that very situation on record. Not on some obscure mixtape offering, but on his album. Most of the artists who parade diamonds around couldn't tell you what conflict diamonds were. I doubt he knew for quite some time. It was brought to his attention though. And he responded. Openly... Now how he's changed by this new information remains to be seen. But either way, I'm in no position to judge him. Oddisee is much more beholden to the ideals he puts across in his music, but he's a shoe fetishist (I've developed a fetish myself so I'm certainly not pointing fingers) despite well publicized and well documented information that sweatshops continue to operate under Nike's watch. Does that make him any less genuine or sincere? He's conflicted just like the rest of us. We all are in some way.

Doesn't an MC at least get respect for mentioning all those topics that you are shunning as Pseudo-Social?? I thought that's what us underground heads were pushing/fighting for. I WANT somebody to hold me accountable for whatever I say, if you know who I am. Imagine if Dr. Dre told everybody he was working with that he wanted to change the direction of his music, and that 50cent had to start watching what he says. He would be through. thats all.

If he did that at beatsociety people would Sh** their pants. Beat society needs to move away from their circle..[/quote:c419000862] Are you talking about that ALIAS show with Dose One?

[quote:6e6f5957a9="AceFadal"] My cousin from LA thinks HipHopkc.com is a joke. That is why we are stuck. Kansas City Hip Hop and HipHopKc. I love Kansas City but....... Have you seen what other Hip Hop forums are on? read what people are talking about on these sights. see how soon you come running back to HHKC. if anybody has anything the would like to chat about mano y mano. Like Men...uh talking, like I said you know where you can find me on sunday night. PEACE! AF [/quote:6e6f5957a9] thanks for posting those other sites. I haven't checked them out in depth, but they are different than here. I guess that's pretty usual really. No 2 cities are the same so it stands that 2 people from different citys would be the same or see it the same way. no harm in that necia
