Topic: Mixtape of the Month - Houston edition!!

For all of you that think Houston is all about lean, grillz, candy paint, and scantily clad chicks.. you are right.
But there is always the flip side. Houston is crazy diverse and this mixtape displays it.
It’s from former producer of the K-Otix, Russel Gonzalez, bka The Are. He branched out and has done lots of work for a long time now with artists like De La Soul, Truth Enola, etc.
He is actually sounding fresher then ever nowadays, though I probly wouldn’t tell him so.
I actually used to know this cat. When I lived in Houston through my high school years, I used to frequent a record store called Soundwaves. I couldn’t afford a turntable, so I used to hit the store just to listen to 12â€s and to catch a quick feel of scratching, though it wasn’t allowed. He was cool and used to recommend joints to me, because few were into any other music besides thug at that time.
After a while once the K-Otix started to bubble, he became less personable, and started treating me like a groupie, even though I barely even knew about the group. Basically he became a jerk off. But props to Russ anyways, because he was a pioneer in southern hip hop in the 90’s.
