nice homie. i dunno if that beat really did you justice tho man. i could be wrong, but to me, but in a couple of spots it sounded like you where holding back some heat that the beat couldn't handle.

the recording was good enough, IMO you should have put an album out already...even if it was recordings like this track, I think you could still put it out and stack some cash for a second mo' better release

That's just nasty yo. I think the recording quality on there was good enough. The beat was real low key, it really let the lyrics shine IMO. waiting on that project man.

you know, I've toyed with the idea of a home recorded project....but I feel like I can't get taken seriously doing shit with a $40 mic and cool edit. I toyed with the idea of doing a "mixtape" over instrumentals and selling em for like $5...you think the quality is decent enough for that? I could also get it pro mixed...I dunno
I'm putting so much effort into these Reach tracks...cuz they gota be special, 2 out of 5 done so far. Those will be done in the "official" studio though, expect that late 2007 if all goes well!!

when you say you can't get taken seriously, who do you want to get taken seriously by? fans or emcees? if it's the latter you're making music for the wrong crowd..."how many rappers you know buy tapes?....not many"-Checkmark
fans don't care that much as long as you can get your point across, be it a message, a style, whatever...look at Sage Francis who put out 3 of those mixtapes most with questionable sound quality, and most everyone sold quite a bit.
"pro mixed" is a joke, you don't have the scrill for that
you have a couple songs done professionally already, I know that, you have a bunch of cats on here willing to give you beats. put them all together and burn them bitches, then start slanging them.
don't get too stuck on the quality of the tracks, work with what you have man, otherwise you're gonna have like 2 professionally recorded tracks on your hardrive for the rest of your life...when you finally decide to put them out they'll be old and nobody will give a fuck.
I'd rather you get a tascam 4 track and an SM58 and record a whole album I can rock then hear one track on soundclick you did at chapman

It's too good not to put out. Record it at home, sell it out of your trunk or whatever as long as people are getting it.
Plus the more you record the sound quality will only improve, take half the money you would spend for studio time and invest it in recording equipment and you're good to go.
Not nearly as many people record in professional studios nowadays and the consumers could care less.
The premaster is where I'd spend cash if I was ever thinking about anything studio.

The sad thing is, my "debut" has been halfway done for going on 4 years now. I actually have 8 studio tracks done, 2 at Chapman, 6 at Lock N Load's old spot.
I definitely see what you guys are saying, there's this portable "recording booth" that's sposed to make a HUGE difference for $279 plus a phantom powered mic would also bump the quality up. I realize I can't wait forever on this, so maybe I need to grind out this mixtape I've been conceptualizing and use any proceeds to finance my official shit. You guys have offered some great feedback, I truly appreciate it!

the preamp and mic are by far the most important things for vocal tracks.
a booth isn't as big of a deal as it looks, just avoid recording by air ducts, and fans, try to record when things are as quiet as possible. if all else fails a booth can be made with stuff you likely have laying around.
sometimes i record with a sm58 and sometimes a b1 condenser (both 100 dollar mics), people always compliment the clarity of my vocal tracks. the preamp is a big deal. a sm58 through a berhinger mixer vs a sm58 through a good preamp is a huge difference.
just my 2cents.

Put your internet to use and download Acid. You can get it off soulseek or limewire. Plus you can download all the plug ins on there too. Ask around, I'm sure there's cat's who would toss you some beats just to help you get started.
