Summer Park Jams in NYC - 2007
If anyone is lining up a summer trip to NYC to take advantage of the true school, I would think one of the best times to visit would be near the end of July.
We're already planning to do a DJ heavy park jams each week from June - August in the NYC Parks.
THE 2007 TOOLS OF WAR SUMMER PARK JAM SERIES
JUNE: I tentatively have "Turntablist Sessions" @ Rufus King Park in Jamaica Queens every Thurs. in June. The park might be under construction though so I am pitching another weekly series in Harlem in June as well focusing on the diggers/collectors.
JULY: THE CROTONA PARK JAMS (5TH ANNIVERSARY!) every Thursday in Crotona Park (Bronx). GrandMaster Caz calls this "The Big Boy Stage" - it is the best of the best legends line up and Caz, Theodore, Jazzy Jay, Red Alert and others have a say on who can get on.
JULY 31/AUGUST: HARLEM HOP!: I am so happy to announce new Harlem park jam series focusing on Dance w/ DJs spinning sets directly for the Poppers, Lockers, B-Boys/B-Girls & Uprockers (evenly) on Tuesdays: July 31 (Jackie Robinson Park in Harlem) and then we move to Marcus Garvey Park (Mt. Morris) for Aug. 7, 14 & 21. Both parks have amazing amphitheaters and nice dance space.
Who you might see on a Tools of War park jam stage: GrandMaster Caz, Fabel, Rockin Rob, Jazzy Jay, GrandWizzard Theodore, Kool DJ Red Alert, Tony Tone, Lord Finesse, Danny Dan the Beat Man, DJ Cash Money, Steve Dee, Roc Raida, Miss Shing-a-Ling, Rob Swift, Mean Gene, Kool DJ AJ Scratch, King Uprock, Charlie Chase, Davy DMX, Mix Master Ice, Paul Nice, Busy Bee, and many more special guests and surprise appearances. Biz Markie as well as the Furious Five have appeared completely unannounced - even to me! I wont even go into everyone: DJ, Graff, Dance and Emcee legends who are in the crowd - ok but I've seen Lisa Lee, some Mercedes Ladies, Coke La Rock and more at Crotona Jams! I even met La La La La Larry Love @ Rufus King Park in Queens!
July 23 - 29: The Rock Steady 30th Anniversary

I can't reveal what it is or who tipped me off but a very major anniversary might be celebrated on August 3rd in NYC. The line up if it happens will be well worth an emergency trip to NYC!
The City Parks Foundation has Concerts Series for free in the NYC Parks which usually begin in July. The line-up gets announced in the Spring but here's the link to save:

The SummerStage in Central Park will be doing a lot of nice line ups too.
See you this summer, God willing!
PEACE!

Just an FYI, before anyone writes to ask if they can perform.. thanks in advance but....
1. We almost never do "opening acts" or break new acts unless it's a battle DJ/turntablist with a nice routine and that's only in Queens. We don't put on anyone we haven't seen perform or battle live. As noted, sometimes other legends even need to be voted on by the mainstays!
2. All our shows start and end with DJ headliners since there's only 3 or 4 hours available to jam.
3. Please appreciate that our line ups are dedicated to Hip Hop DJ pioneers and legends plus we love the battle DJ/turntablist scene too. We will occasionally feature a true school emcee for a 10 or 15 minute set. This is who we are looking out for as we feel that the new DJ and new rapper line ups are very well represented and we don't need to add to that scene.
We appreciate everyone wanting to lend a hand but we really want to keep the stage concentrated with legendary DJs, legends who can DJ and diggers/rare record collectors. We are making the DJ the front man or woman again like it was in the beginning.
Thanks in advance for understanding our mission!
