But it costs money.
So people might have to get used to paying something more at the door or paying more for drinks for that to happen, right? |
| nadia wrote: |
So if the end result of all this were that open mics happened very infrequently, I'd prefer that to the other option of us getting security guards to take our money and hang out like a big raincloud over our heads. |
Just say NO, to security meat heads.

Back in the day, DJ's used to be the only ones with straps in the venues. I'm all for P-nut DJ's to carry heat and have it be mandatory.

I heard the fight was a in response to the solomon/ math battle.
NAMEEN?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This isn't NYC and if the DJ carries a gun why shouldn't I.....I mean the DJ gets to.
|
yea i know i was kidding about the gun thing, this thread was getting boring. Also, i haven't seen 8 mile. I refuse to watch it. ha ha
Serious time.
I just don't want hired security for personal reasons.
What happened on Sunday was horrible. Something like that wont happen again, at least for a really long time. Since it already happened once, the staff, dj's and others will watch out for sketchy things that might lead up to the same thing in the future.
Drunkards need to watch their step and not knock over the audio mixer.

first...
open mics will be (as always) few and far between on Sundays.
When we do have them, it will be (as always) unplanned and entirely at
the DJ's discretion. I can't agree with Nadia more in that open mics are mind numbingly boring for those not participating. (DJ's included.)
We WILL NOT however move for a more organized or structured open mic arrangement as the loose "basement" nature of them is the ONLY thing that keeps it even remotely fun or interesting.
second...
any security put in place will absolutely NOT be hired guns from a firm or any kind of official securty outfit. it should and will be 1 to 2 people whom you will not otherwise notice. Ideally someone who already attends and who most of you already know and respect. Basically someone who may have been there anyway, but in this case will be getting paid for their presence with the expectation that they will attempt to defuse any possible situations that may arrise.
This depends on whether or not the peanut will open the pocketbook to pay for it.
last...
this is not the first time shit has happened at HH&HW.
It is the first time on this scale, but we've had incidents more dangerous than this occur before. Some of you may not have ever known about them as they were quietly addressed and dealt with accordingly, but there has been gun play in the house before.
Mike is right in that this kind of thing can and will happen from time to time anywhere alcohol is served in a public environment.
(Security or not.) Oftentimes hired security worsens the situation. I've seen it many times.
This will not result in a closing of the night. Everyone who needs to be is still in the game and the police are being cool about the whole thing.
Being that nobody acutally filed a complaint, no strikes go against the establishment.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO COME OUT!!!
if you're just too uncomfortable then i'm sorry to lose you and i hope to regain your confidence again one day, but I'm going out on a limb here to say that THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.
IF IT DOES, ANY AND ALL IN ATTENDANCE ARE GRANTED THE RIGHTS TO PUNCH ME IN THE NUTS ONE AT A TIME.
thank you for the support and suggestions.
i love you guys.

thanks for the update drew. I like it when the people directly involved in
and with the event communicate the final outcome.
somehow it reestablishes the trust within the community and set the tone for things to continue on . . . . . . ..
well said and I posted the cesphiles info in upcoming events for this coming sunday nite and whole heartedly plan on attending for the fun and to lend supportive energy.

First off... Calm down cowboy...
Check your attitude at the door.
| Quote: | | Do I look like Heet Mob? I'm not an emcee, nor should i be expected to play the beats, then run out and regulate turns. We were begged for 2 hours for a mic so all the regulars could spit. Shit was fine with dutch, les, gunny, lou, etc.....everyone was loving it and it had a good vibe like always, only after the wack wannabes got on there at the end did it get stupid. |
I don't have an expectation that you do anything besides be the reactionary member of this forum you've always been. Again, it was merely a suggestion. It's not my place to make decisions for what HH+HW will become.
| Quote: | | if you were so knowledgeable that it was bad to have impromptu freestyle sessions, then why were you and so many other people praising us for giving so many people a chance to get on there on Wednesdays when they wouldn't do it on sunday's. |
I praised Barbaric for being a Rap weekly that didn't involve politics. And that, sir, was relative to how well the two of you booked and ran live performances. I never said two words about the open mic sessions held there. But don't let the facts get in the way of your fingers.
| Quote: | | when some shit hits the fan everyone tries to point the finger, even though nobody is at fault, except for a small group of people who lack respect and discipline. |
I missed the part where I pointed a finger at anyone.
| Quote: | | us and them? yes, us and them...a room of self disciplined adults vs a small group of people rolling around in their own vomit. |
Way to miss the forest for the trees.
Perhaps if you read my posts you'd have a clearer understanding of what I was getting at.
| Quote: | | if you had a ton of big brutalizing bouncers running around in the mix, you don't think that would've added to the violence? |
No, not necessarily. I think properly trained bouncers would've helped to diffuse the situation. That's just me though.
| Quote: | | what happened is over with....people should stop trying to blame somebody and become more unified. |
And you think this angry ass response is a way to start that process?
| Quote: | | and i'm not bring mics anymore since baby's can't handle it. |
You've spent this entire rant going in on me and now you're going to penalize the emcees who deserve and respect the open mic? But I'm tripping?
| Quote: | | oh, and a dude chucked a glass a vertigone at the record bar a couple weeks ago.....someone should call the record bar and tell them to only use plastic cups from now on. |
Calling for structure and a couple dudes who know how to properly diffuse conflict is equivalent to the Record Bar using plastic cups...
Sure thing ace. |

Open mics are like anything else. Most CDs suck. Most stage shows suck. Maybe it's just me, but I enjoy open mics for the rare chance that I'll see a really dope freestyler amidst a bunch of bullshit. |
